An Ohio death row inmate was executed Tuesday after the Supreme Court rejected his last-minute plea that he was too overweight to be executed.
Richard Cooey was executed as scheduled at 10 a.m. ET, the Ohio Department of Corrections told CNN.
Cooey had exhausted his legal appeals and Gov. Ted Strickland earlier denied the 41-year-old prisoner's clemency petition. Cooey murdered two college students in 1986More at the link.

But on Monday night, she said, Cooey ate a "special meal" consisting of a T-bone steak, hash browns, french fries, four eggs over easy, onion rings, four pieces of toast, a pint of Rocky Road ice cream, Mountain Dew and bear claw pastries. He did not eat breakfast Tuesday, Carson said.

Cooey and a then-17-year-old accomplice were convicted of the brutal murders of Wendy Offredo and Dawn McCreery, students at the University of Akron. The men had been tossing concrete slabs onto Interstate 77, and one of them struck Offredo's car.

Pretending to "rescue" the women, Cooey and Clinton Dickens took the victims to a remote field, according to prosecutors. There the students were subjected to a three-and-a-half-hour period of rape, torture, stabbings and fatal bludgeonings. Cooey carved an "X" into the stomachs of both women, prosecutors said."

I do not agree with judicially mandated death penalty under ANY circumstances.

I do feel that the DEATH PENALTY is correct and proper in instances of the very worst of criminals.

Pedophiles who sodomize, rape and murder our little children are in this category.

Also, men who sodomize, rape and murder teenagers and women.

There are others, but these, to me, are the slime of the earth.

I used to feel that way, but no longer. I've grown much more "eye for an eye" from being exposed to the horrors that sociopaths/psychopaths do to others.

It's almost funny that he appealed because he was too fat to die when medical professionals counsel that overweight can kill .... :rolleyes:

Wow, and to think the taxpayers paid for this meal. I can't even afford a meal like that for me and my kids (and I'm not a fat murdering piece of s***).

I agree with the other poster. People who fight to get rid of the death penalty or don't "believe" in it haven't had one of their loved ones be the victim of a crime like this.

Hubby and I were talking about this last night, how did this guy get so 'overweight' in prison.

Now, I am not saying inmates even those on DR should be starved, or abused in such a manner, but apparently, he didn't miss a meal.

It does sicken me, that someone that murdered and raped, gets a full (very full belly) medical care, and free legal aid, when we have families, hard working families that cannot afford to take their kids to the doctor, and are scrimping to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads...(which many have lost..:( )

I have no sympathy for whiny POS's that are so big, bad, macho as to torture and kill kids, women, men, people that did NOTHING against them, just to be in the wrong place @ the wrong time.

What mercy did these POS's show their victims? Did they "listen" to their pleas? Obviously not, but some judge or panel is supposed to "listen" to the cowardly POS's pleas?

A fellow some years ago (Oregon? Washington?) tortured, killed little boys and then cut them up. HE whined that the option for death the HE chose was inhumane (too fat, the rope might break before it killed him or some such whiney complaint.) I do think that the method of death that he chose for those boys was even more inhumane. Cowardly POS---they are so dadgum brave and macho---until they realize THEY are about to die.

Instead of eating onward trying to get so darn fat, he should have been exercising even more in his cell (like, what else did he have to do?) to work off the high carb/fat meals most likely served.

Sure, they probably didn't know Couey had poor, poor Jessica in his closet, but they lied about his being there in that trailer to LE. If LE had spoken to him and inspected his room.......arrrggghhhh!

If the Couey3 were not charged, then I don't feel anyone can ever possibly reach the bar to be charged for lying and obstruction of justice. There are not words strong enough to describe what they did in protecting the Couey monster. What they did was despicable.

I remember one of the issues I had with this case was that the police never asked to look around, I never understood that, why not ask to look around, the worst the owner could say is no and if they say no, I think that should be standard procedure when a child goes missing and did you see those people, they all would of looked suspicious if you ask me - jmho
