G'morning CMT....
Catching up on IS with Lisa and information I missed yesterday.
My only contact with the trial yesterday was this Board. Good posting folks. Helped me keep up.
My guess for verdict is Monday afternoon...unless they choose to work Saturday. I think that may be an option.

Wishing I were as confident about a verdict as you are.
My house keeps yelling at me for a clean-up in aisle 3.
The jury will knock several of those counts off and I was thinking both CJ and AJ would get about 3-5 yrs each.

Good Morning everyone..didnt get to post much yesterday, but did catch most of the closing arguements. I was struck with the focus by the defense attny's ..Yale making a case for "Defendent Simpson's' mindset etc.." Things were not as they appeared..etc..I do believe if those tapes had not contradicted his client's mindset, he could have made some points..It seems jurors need clear proof before they will convict a "celebrity"....They need a higher threshold..proof beyond any doubt to vote guilty..at least that the way I see it.
I thought the Pros. did a wonderful close and tied all the aspects of each count into the evidence.
LMS:seeya:
I just watched the KTLA replay when Alexander told Galanter to get away from him in the witness box. Hopefully, the jury will remember that and see how intimidating Yale was; just like Yale's client!

I typed a fair number of posts and comments during his closing - countering all the half truths, half statements and lies (sorry - no other word - that witness he claims stated outright that he'd slant his testimony for money explicitly never said any such thing, and denied it numerous times when Yale tried to put those words into his mouth).
A juror taking notes definitely doesn't mean she's on his side. It could - or it could mean she's making sure she has exactly what he said to rebut it.

No, I don't expect one. I think they need at least 2 days, and a night to sleep on it. Just to review, for their own peace of mind. And to debate Stewart - he's the far more difficult case than OJ. And even OJ isn't that simple - easy to say guilty of some charges - but which ones? They'll be discussing the legal definition of kidnapping versus coercion, which one applies, etc.

This is what allowed him, or any of us, to buy the watches, the homes, the cars, the suits, the ties. And that's why this property raised such high emotion...this was about the absolute essence, the cornerstone and the foundation of OJ Simpson's life. That's why this property was so sacred to him."
Please. If my life ever spirals down to where any "things" could be regarded as being the "essence of my life", I would be so ashamed I wouldn't want to be remembered at all.

But the time to call hotel security and call the police or ask security to do it was when they went to the room and identifyed the "stuff" and the "thieves". You step back out into the hall (empty handed and in view of comeras) and call. You know that they can't load all that stuff up and run before security can get there. They had lots of time to plan this and that is what they should have planned.
I know you know that - and we all know the reasons why OJ would never do that.... besides the fact that he's dumb, as Yale said.
Gotta admit tho, that OJ was kinda clever.
Doesn't seem that any of the thugs knew what the other thugs were going to be doing.
If this jury turns him loose...I think we should just let it go.
Let him rape, murder and pillage with impunity. No sense wasting any more tax dollars on someone that not only thinks he is above the law, but has had it proven.

I know you know that - and we all know the reasons why OJ would never do that.... besides the fact that he's dumb, as Yale said.Or you go in there with cameras and take pictures proving they have the stuff, then the lawyers can sue them. There are so many ways to do this legally - as OJ was told by the police, and likely by his own attorney, and even, really, by Riccio, whose plan in the tapes sounds much closer to that type of sting, than the armed robbery that took place.

There's usually an hour's notice, you'll see it here, likely on CNN as well. You can always tell because the forum starts getting very frequent posts, likely a new thread will show up.
From there - it may well be on TV, but in the Links thread, there are a few links to live feeds that will show you probably more than the TV will.
I wait for that hour's notice, then go get my feed up.

Maybe even KLAS (LasVegasNow) will do it. And Jurorthirteen
Ist thing new poster can do is check the LINKS Only thread for each trial; such as this one and the Brian Nichols trial in Atlanta. This is where posters will share the links for LIVE FEED. broadcasts. Much needed with the short day TruTV has and how iffy CNN can be.

Hey cherylt,
I won't be surprised if both defendants are preparing briefs as we speak for appeals. I don't know about Nevada law but this could stop the verdict until the appeals are heard. Anyway there hasn't been anything about conflict of interest raised or anything about Yale going down. I didn't see any reason for it. Now after the trial if OJ wins or loses that's a whole different ballgame. It could very well end up locked.
It's definitely nerve wracking about now, so I'll just have to turn off the forums and wait and watch tv for some news.
I've already filled out MY JUROR Verdict Form - and have 10 out of 12 for each OJ and CJ.
What a day.

REALLY?! That sounds dreadful. I haven't ever heard of that happening, but if it could happen anywhere, it would be OJ's case...
I'm thinking the jury when they 1st got into the room said something like, "look, we can win no matter what we decide. If we don't convict, we'll be wishy-washy OJ lovers; if we do convict, we'll be told it will be payback for that "other" trial." I would not want to be on this jury!

So, I'm afraid to ask, but what is the "right" verdict? I haven't been on this board much or paying a lot of attention to this trial. For me - OJ guilty on most or all charges, Stewart guilty on one or two.
In this trial, there's about triple the evidence that would normally convict someone.
In a normal armed robbery case, you'd have the testimony of the victims, as we do, the recording of their 911 call. We have that. The tape of Beardsley calling 911 to say they've been robbed at gunpoint by OJ mere moments after it happened, Fromong and Beardsly describing the robbery, identifying their assailants, the stolen property found in the posession of the suspects, and video showing OJ and crew walking into the room empty handed, walking out of the room carrying the stolen items. That'd more than convict any normal person.
But - over and above that, we've got the testimony of the thugs, of the accessories, through a plea deal (as usual - this is not abnormal for police to use a plea to get people to testify). This again - more than enough alone to convict. While some of these people have records, others do not have anything serious on their record, others were pretty much hapless saps who just wandered into what they thought was a job carrying stuff for OJ, and turned out to be a robbery.
But then we go several miles further - the planning, the robbery itself, and bragging and joking about it afterwards was all recorded. Nice unbiased tapes. Recorded by multiple people, confirming the stories of the victims, the thugs, and everyone other than OJ. Many of these tapes have enough of the details to prove many charges alone.
So, either everyone is lying, including tape recorders - or OJ is guilty. Stewart there's a bit more wiggle room - a case could be made he thought he was just there to carry stuff too - with a bit of evidence maybe slightly ignored.
And for the defense - aside from a bunch of challenging the tapes - and the tapes are hard to challenge because it's plenty clear enough to hear what is going on, and there's enough cross talk that hints of modification (that the FBI expert said he looked for and did not find) are really not credible - the whole OJ defense has been that it's his stuff. The prosecution not only wiped that idea out, but also the law says even if you honestly believe something to be yours (and OJ took stuff that by no definition could he believe was his - cell phone, Montana lithographs, etc.) you still can't lure someone to a hotel room, hold them there with armed thugs, and take it back by threat of force.
It's a clear-cut case - for anyone other than OJ, there's many, many, many times the evidence normally needed to prove the case.

Wow Details - that was very well thought out & I think very well stated. I agree with your assessment of the situation (I guess I'm too lazy to write all that and articulate my thoughts most days.. :) )
I do think Stewart is a little more accountable though. He kept the stuff (and hid it away, not in his house) and they used his truck, so I think he should get a couple more charges than what you stated, but that's JMO. OJ by far should get the majority of the charges of Guilty if the jury looks at all the evidence & how the Prosecutors outlined the charges with the applicable evidence/testimony.

The problem with guys like CJ....he is no different than Fromong and Gilbert post Oj's first trial/bad acts..for some unknown reason grown men wil sell their souls to that devil and back him to their detriment..OJ should burn in hades for his evil influences...but..they made their bed they must lie in it!! Whatever comes their way!!! I believe they all will pay in their FINAL JUDGEMENT.(accordingly)....so dont sweat the small stuff..Their souls are all doomed.unless they confess..They are all weenies..and play big games..and people get hurt!!!!

Nothing on cnn.com website....nothing on KTLA video other than a static picture... on Thelegaledge, someone else heard it on Nancy Grace...
Still rumor yet - but it could be the first ripple - or a misunderstanding.

I have one huge problem with this trial.
It was not allowed to be mentioned that there was a judical order ordering the turnover of OJs stuff to the Goldmans. Yet, the defense is allowed to use the words that this stuff was STOLEN from OJ and he was just trying to GET HIS STOLEN STUFF BACK!.
OJ GAVE this STUFF to other people to HIDE for him so that the Goldmans could NOT get it. NOBODY STOLE his stuff! It was so sickening whrn Gallenter in his summation kept saying THIS MAN WAS JUST TRYING TO GET HIS STUFF BACK THAT WAS STOLEN FROM HIM! He said it over and over and over again.
Truth is OJ was not overly concerned thru the years where his stuff was. The only time he became upset is when he needed to get his hands on it to sell because he needed the money - or, as in this case, where he heard someome was tring to SELL HIS STUFF and it infurated him!
This guy is an arrogant BULLY! He holds himself in such high regard that he is going to pull the GODFATHER act when someone DARES to cross him.
Poor Nichole - she dared to try to move on and have a life without him. She is dead because the GODFATHER felt she was not under his control anymorre. This man belongs in jail because he feels he is the law and can do anything he wants to do!!
Whew, sorry - I just got so angry over this sorry man feeling justified in anything he does.

Cats, A trial always gives the defense more leeway than the prosecutor - but it was introduced that OJ 'gave' these items to Gilbert, and discussions of turn over orders were all throughout, and in the closing arguments, the prosecutor got plenty of info in about the turn over and how the stuff was not his - even if that mattered.
It's frustrating - but it's how a trial has to go - and they still had more than enough to convict.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A court official says jurors in the O.J. Simpson case are having dinner delivered so they can keep deliberating whether the former football star and a co-defendant are guilty of robbing and kidnapping two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint.
Court spokesman Michael Sommermeyer says there's no indication how late the jury of 9 women and three men intend to work.
They began deliberations about 8:30 a.m. Friday, had a working lunch, and sent one note to the judge just after 3 p.m. with what Sommermeyer called a "procedural" question.

I respect your opinion. HOWEVER The judge would not allow a prosecution witness testify at all because he was to tell about the legal turnover order from the civil case. The prosecution said this person would testify in their opening statemennt. All through the trial the Judge would halt any mention about this order.
This is why I am so angry that the defense was allowed to use the words: He was just trying to recover his STOLEN property. NOTHING was STOLEN from OJ!
OJ DEFAULTED on paying storage fees, period. Items in storage are allowed to be sold if this happens*
The people who had halped him hid this stuff in storage begged OJ to pay for the storage fees. They were tired of paying out of their pockets for his stuff to be stored. He ignored their pleas. They had every right to try to sell that stuff!
*[sadly, I know this for a fact. My son passed away and I was notified of an auction date for his things like 10 days before because he did not pay the storage fee. I would not have the money for 2 weeks (had just buried him) and they said SORRY and auctioned his stuff].

But one thing is for sure - they don't work late if they are just going to come back hung. IMO So maybe its a good thing.
I think so too. They do have a lot to get thru. Isn't it 18 charges each (counting lessers) and 2 defendants? That would take a lot of time even if they were in total agreement.
I do think it's a sign of progress that they're not throwing in the towel.

I didn't have a chance to watch the trial other than catching up at night with highlights. Do you think the jury will be able to separate the current charges from what most people believe was the wrong verdict 13 yrs. ago?
if i was one of the jurors i wouldn't even think about what happen 13 yrs ago i pray they do they same so this is a fair and just verdict of GUILTY :D

ITA, and that's why I am hanging in here past my medicine time and bed time, I do think they are making progress and don't want to stop in the middle of it to go home.
BTW- I am central time so it's only 8:30 here but because of health and meds I go to bed about 7:30. So I am hopeful they are going to "get er done".

Are the defendants and lawyers still at the courthouse? I wonder when they lock the doors for the weekend?

during some trial i can't remember but they said they keep security there to lock and unlock doors for as long as the jurors want to stay.

Maybe we'll know the answer by what the verdict is. I do think he's guilty of the charges they're deliberating on, even though the 'victims' may not be the most upstanding citizens, he still committed a crime, imo.

I hate to get my hopes up, but I can't imagine the jury would work through dinner unless they were close to a verdict.
They've been at it for 10 hours...

Hi ellvarn :seeya: I was planning a leisurely evening kicking back, nothing in particular too. Maybe ASSumptive of me but I figued Jury would review, take off for the weekend too! I have legaledge in another window and they said they would give heads up if verdict is reached and -- see the verdict live there too.

*[sadly, I know this for a fact. My son passed away and I was notified of an auction date for his things like 10 days before because he did not pay the storage fee. I would not have the money for 2 weeks (had just buried him) and they said SORRY and auctioned his stuff].
I am so sorry you went through something like that.
:rose:[/QUOTE]
Thanks ellvarn. It was a nightmaare at the time and to this day I wish I could have had his things to hold at least for awhile. The good part was he spent 2 mos with me before he went back to his job [thats why his stuff was in storage] and I would not trade a second of that time for all of the material things in this world. But having said that I could not believe the lack of compassion from that storage business manager. I offered to send her documentation, etc but all she said was the auction was already published. I found out about it by his landlord forwarding (eventually) his mail of the notice from my sons permanent address. I hope that $80 meant alot to them!

You seem to enjoy making a mountain out of a mole hill, don't worry I don't come on here often and don't want to run you off, I don't owe you a PM as I already said I was sorry if you did not see then so be it.
You take care too and I will just shut up and observe to see if the verdict comes tonight. So don't leave on my account!

Have there been any updates since Nancy's show was on? I can't find anything online, and Fox and CNN are talking politics.

After the jury left yesterday, Judge Glass asked the attorneys to leave a phone number where they can be reached when the verdict comes in. I had to laugh because Galanter wanted to know exactly how much time they would have to get to the courthouse because, you know, he had to put on his suit and everything! Nothing on the local news yet.

I am so mad at myself, but I have to leave y'all for the night, it's only 7:20 in Vegas, but it's 9:20 here in Arkansas and my poor old body can't hang in here any longer. I was determined to stay for the "guilty" verdict tonight - wishful thinking.
Anyway good night all and I hope we will see justice done and stop this lunatic - JMO! So please don't come down hard on me.
Have a good night :seeya:

If I remember right, the trial in Wisconsin where the Husband was charged and convected of killing his wife with anti-freeze, didn't they stay late the first night but still did not have a verdict for a few more days? They may feel obligated to work harder the first night? I am just guessing.
I think you're right...The Jensen case?
I guess the consolation prize is that they must be getting along or they'd be throwing in the towel and calling it a night.

Rarely see anyone from "the good ole days" of open threads. Was a format I loved.
Do you remember: Loveday, Gardenwoman, Leslie, Courtjester, Swats (who could forget him), Ouch, etc.? Just to name a few.

Galanter reminded the jury of a surreptitious recording of police investigators in the hotel room after the incident. "They're making jokes. They're saying things like, 'We're gonna get him,'" he said. This from th KC Star newspaper. Who recorded this, anyone know?
