Orthopedic surgeon has confirmed that the foot is a childs foot. Police say they have no active missing children cases currently in Russellville but are checking other counties.

Thank you so much Maelstrom and Kaylynn. Horrid. There is no indication in the article of the approximate age of that child is there? I'm wondering if there could be a connection to the "missing" Caylee in Florida. Alabama isn't THAT far away, is it?
Herlock
P>S> I am going to post that link on the Caylee board (I will give you both the credit you deserve:)

From Russellville Alabama (where the foot was found) to Orlando Florida is about 650 miles or so. It's a long shot but still a possibility.
:rose: Prayers for Caylee and whoever this unidentified child is.

Maybe a possible connection to this case.

Hi Mandysmom,
I don't think there is a connection. According to the update the remains found were not heavily decomposed. It sounds to me like this child/petite teen died recently, to the point that they are taking a day off in the search so that the 24 hour advance of decomposition will add the cadaver dogs in their search.
Haleigh has been missing for over a year, her remains have been reduced to a skeleton by now. The same holds true for Caylee.
The only way this child could be either one of them would if they were held against their will for a long time then murdered recently, or if the body had been frozen, then dumped.

You're right maelstrom, I hadn't really thought about that. I wish they would get some kind of break in that case.
I read this morning that a 10 year old is missing from Birmingham since Friday, but haven't seen anything else about it.

I wonder who this child could be..

Has there been any mention to the possible age of the child? Was it a bare foot or in a shoe? If the child is school aged, maybe a teacher will start to wonder when one of her students doesn't come to school anymore. It makes me so sick to think that this just happened and no one reported anything. I know this sounds so basic, but have all of the children in the subdivision been accounted for?

According to the Russellville sheriff, they won't know the age or gender of the child until forensics are completed. The original reports said that someones dog was carrying the foot around and the owner of the dog thought it may have been a foot and called police. So, with that being said..it makes me think that it was not in a shoe. If it was, it seems like it would be without a doubt a foot.

Hi all,
According to the news report that Mr. Unknown posted the foot was severed below the ankle and was barefoot.
The one child that seems to have been reported missing in the last few day is the one in Mandysmom’s post; Alex Johnson of Birmingham. But a ABC news 33/40 Update on September 22 stated the following “Update: Alex Johnson has been found - he is now at home and doing well“.
I am glade he is home safe.
I have not seen any missing Alabama children recently posted at NCMEC but many times it takes a number of weeks before the paperwork is done and the missing child gets posted. There are currently 2 females and 2 males listed as having gone missing in Alabama in the last year, they range in age from 16 to 18; all seem to be too well developed physically to be mistaken for a child.

Test results were inconclusive on the foot. Additional forensic tests are expected.

Maybe the child was from another area and was dumped (or her foot was dumped) there?
A while back, some human remains were found in my area and identifying him was difficult because there were no missing people fitting his description in the area. This was a rural area that is nearly 100% white, and the man was black. Anyway, he turned out to be a drifter from a neighboring state, and they could not determine a cause of death.
His habits were such that nobody had reported him missing.

Yeah, I agree. I'm almost positive that the child is from a different county/city and maybe even state. Police have said from the beginning though that there are no children/young adults missing from the area and that they were expanding their search by looking into missing reports from other agencies. So, hopefully this child is identified soon. This is a really sad situation. :(

I'm having a hard time picturing this. The foot is not badly decomposed, and yet even in the lab they've been unable to determine if it's human. Nothing looks like a human foot except a human foot, I don't think. Monkey feet certainly don't. No matter how bad the state of decomposition - even a skeletal foot - should be easy to determine.
??
Two Russellville doctors - an emergency room doctor and an orthopedic surgeon - identified the foot as human. Now, I would like to think the orthopedic surgeon would be the first to identify correctly and know what they're talking about. As for the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, who knows what's going on there.
In the meantime, investigators are out searching for remains.
"Until forensic science tells us what it is, we have to go on the assumption that it's human remains, because we'd hate to not be doing something," (Police Chief) Hargett said.

LOL Destini, I tend to agree.
The only thing I can think of is that while the foot was not that decomposed it was mutuliated to the point it fooled them. My quess; they de-fleshed the bones and took a close look at the metatarsles.

But, but I thought bears had paws & fur ... I don't get it. Anyway, just thank God it wasn't a child.

Hi,
They do, but decomposing flesh can often mask things. Fur/hair sloughs off after a few days (see the Caylee Anthony case, and how hair that was found in the trunk of her mother’s car points to the fact Caylee is deceased)
I don't have a good answer for claws vs. toe nails, it seems that should stand out but in this case I guess it did not. Again my best guess is the foot while humanoid was mangled.
Mabe it is something about the name Russellville, the same town name, different state is where the chief of police accused an innocent man of killing his girlfriend, Nona Dirksmeyer. He basically ruined this young man, Kevin Jones, life.
Now a tenant in the same apartment complex as Nona is being charged with her murder… And this time; for the first time, they have a DNA connection.
I am just an average guy, no special training (I lived my life helping to create new food flavors, not solve crimes) but sometimes you don’t need a college degree in criminal justice, just common sense.
I don't fault the police here, I am sure they are red in the face, but think if they had just blown this case off; then it turned out to be a murder.

Instead of questioning LE or medical professionals, I am thanking God this was not a child. All too often it is.

Maybe if it was some sort of miscarried bear embryo, it was both small and hairless, thus looking more like a small child's foot.
