Opinions please of Judge Jackie Glass?

I heard, before the trial started, from a friend in Las Vegas, that she is a no nonsense judge. That's all fine and dandy; however, it is annoying that she is constantly interrupting the defense (both defendant's attorneys) and she refuses to allow them to finish their questions. She is yelling and screaming commands at the defense. At this point JJG seems rather predjuiced against the defense?:seeya:

Opinions please of the judge and please keep out of your posting anything to do with the outcome verdict of the LA 1995 trial; doesn't have bearing on this trial.

Thank you.

She's rigid, keeping a tight rein on the attorneys - but I don't see anything wrong. She's preventing them from talking over each other and the witness and everything, requiring a question to be fully asked before it is answered, etc. I think it's good, and necessary. As it is now, there are so many people in that courtroom that it could be total pandemonium if she didn't keep it all in line.

I haven't watched very much of the trial - but I found that she spoke incredibly fast - otherwise I didn't see any issues

The reason Judge Glass yelled at Defense Attorney Galanter is because it was at least the 2nd time he jumped up to object when the witness was not his. She is letting one attorney on all sides to question a given witness; they are the only ones who can object.
She is definitely not Judge Lance Ito and will keep control of her courtroom and case.
BTW, she did raise her voice at Prosecutor Owens later on in the trial. I live in Las Vegas and can watch the full trial on Channel 19 with no talking heads giving their thoughts and opinions.

Perhaps if the defense would make their objections in the manner she instructs, instead of standing and making talking objections, she wouldn't seem prejudiced against them. I agree she's no nonsense. She interrupts both sides in the interest of not unnecessarily dragging out the trial. She puts the attorneys questions in a more succinct and to the point form. She interrupts only when a witness obviously does not understand or respond to the question asked. She cuts to the chase and makes both sides cut the crap. She is a breath of fresh air.

In my opinion, Judge Jackie Glass treats the defense horribly. She is loud, a yeller, and plays to the media. She humilated Yale G. in front of the jury. It was awful. I hope the jury sees right thru her, and how biased she is towards the defense. . :read:

LOL, this jury will wind up LOVING HER, imo. This is not your father's lance ito, she is a strong, intelligent Judge who has laid down the law to the attorneys about how she wants this trial conducted. When the attorneys fail to obey her, and galanter is the one who apparently has chosen not to obey, they get reminded.

She speaks rapidly when giving the jury their daily reminders not to speak to anyone as they leave for their breaks and such.

Part of the joy of observing this trial is watching Judge Glass, another part is watching galanter whine. :D

i personally feel she will keep this trial from turning into a circus. May not have anthing to do with the new but oh so old charges, but imo i think she does not care for the antics the person on trial has continued over the years. I for one think this is great!;) i feel it's time he has to face someone that looks at him for what he truly is...not what "he" thinks he is.I think this judge is no nonsense. I do feel she will do the job she has been appointed to do. And we haven't seen how she will treat the prosecuter when he get's his turn have we? Judge Glass gave both sides "The Rules" this trial is going to follow..and it is her job to stop those breaking those rules, no matter which side is breaking them..It just seems that the deense attny's are breaking the rules more often than the prosecution..It is really very simple..following the rules..and no one will get interrupted or admonished..Crosing that line will oly lead to difficulties or those stepping there!!

I guess I cant say it any more ways than that!!

find it 'objectionable' when the defense, right in the middle of a valid and important point they were trying to make, Judge Jackie calls for a break?! Wha?!

How exasperating!?!

Judge Jackie allowed the deputy D.A. to read for the witness 'Fromog', and it was totally recognizable that the DDA was leading the witness. Judge Jackie didn't see it that way?

There is going to be a lot more trial and she'll probably mellow (according to all of us who are finding fault with antics) and we'll all be singing praises of her. Anyway, I sure hope so. Sadly, right now, I have her pegged as definitely predjuiced against the defense.

I think Its one thing to control your court, and quite another to be a condescending B!atch. She talks DOWN to all the Atty's.
She appears bored and irritated, which is unproffesional.

I'm not a fan at all.
Maybe she is having a bad week persoanlly and her attitude will improve, we will see.

Actually if it were anyone other than OJ he would not be sitting there. The ones brandishing the guns would be...well let me rephrase... If it were anyone other than OJ NO ONE would be sitting there because there would have been a deal cut for everyone involved.

I do agree that it has already dragged on longer than it should.

IMO OJ wouldn't have taken a deal if he were offered one or not.

I personally think Judge Jackie Glass is playing to the media, and is a show-off, O,J. is fighting for the rest of his life, and we don't need JG doing a straw hat and cane routine (so to speak) for the media!

She screams, and humiliated Yale G. This is uncalled for. It is unprofessional, and she should have handled it in a side bar. She is loud, and, IMO, enbarrassing to watch when she goes off on a shouting routine,

mho

IMO if Judge Glass hadn't taken control of her court room from the beginning Yale G would have. Just like he did during the prelim. That was uncalled for.

That judge in the Nicole Smith case was a joke--a pathetic joke.

Judge Glass is anything but a joke. The joke in that courtroom is oj simpson. By the way we're beyond hot dogs now and on to cobblers...........

I think, if you noticed, that the reason she is toned down today is because the attorneys are "behaving!" I know as a former elementary school teacher that for the first few weeks of school, the teacher MUST gain control of the classroom however he/she can do it. (barring corporal punishment, of course.:D) Once the children understand the rules and the teacher's personality, the days can move forward a little more smoothly. A prominent case needs to be run that way...Anyhow, that's how I see it.

They are definitely behaving now - not talking over each other and witnesses, making objections in an orderly manner, etc. I'd say she did what was needed to get this courtroom under control. Lots of attorneys looking for their 15 minutes of fame, knowing that people are watching, this job, their performance here might get them a talking head job, or more celebrity work.

Ito was so "enamored" with becoming a TV star, we haven't heard from him since the 1994 trial.

Ito showed respect for the lawyers, never yelled or whistled at the lawyers like they were dogs to quiet them like the rude and disrespectful Judge Jackie Glass. Jackie Glass is not only a joke, she makes a fool of herself, She hot dogs it for the media.

Judge Ito didn't turn it into a circus, the media did. Judge Ito was decent, fair, and let the defense try it's case...and never put down either the prosection or the defense.

How easily some people will accept these rude antics of Judge Glass when it is the defense on the receiving end! They'd be calling for her to be removed from the bench if she pulled those rude antics with the prosecution.

mho No need for the roll eyes, mcannie... LOL.. You are correct.. We haven't heard from Ito since the Trial.. His "15 minutes of fame" appears to have been just that... I respect your opinion, but if you think Judge Ito was "decent and fair", it appears that You and I watched a different Criminal Trial.... And I assure you that if Judge Glass pulls those rude antics with the Prosecution and they deserve it, I will be the LAST one calling for her to be removed from the bench... Thanks for the reply.. :seeya:

Poochie

That's exactly how the majority of the watching audience felt about Judge Ito. He went into that trial as a highly respected judge and by the end was, as you say, a joke. THAT's why he didn't go further in becoming more of a TV Star.

That trial had gone on for quite awhile, though, before people knew what a washout he was and I'm not sure why anyone not connected to the current case would have such an ax to grind against Judge Glass so early in the trial. Those who are so critical of her surely have more reasons than are being stated. What is being said about her borders on vitriol and why, I wonder. It's curious... or it that curiouser and curiouser? LOL

There has been comment about Judge Glass yelling and screaming. What's she's done isn't called yelling or screaming in my world. It's called speaking with authority, clearly and distinctly to capture the attention of those who aren't listening.

Well..it certainly seems that Defense attny/OJ wanna bee advocates/ anti courtroom CONTROL peeps are whining about everything that this judge has to resort to control the circus created by OJ..It seems that you all havent been watching very closely..as she treated all crossing the line equally...it's just the defense team wish to push the envelope further than the prosecution at this point..There is no way she'll tolerate crapolla in her courtroom....and lets face it badmouthing defendants who have been cooperative is not tolerarated.asking the same question a dozen different ways does not make it correct procedure..belaboring the same point over and over again is a waste of time..I think she has shown great restraint..at least she doesnt pound the gavel over and over again..I think a whistle is preferred to that noise to stop the bickering..!!

I just had a thought...maybe you complainers would prefer to have her honorable Eliz. H:punch:alverson presiding over this case...and heaven help those attny's who didnt contribute to her election to the bench!!

Don't get me started on Halverson. I live HERE and what a disgrace of a Judge she is!

But, what I really wanted to post was IMO, a certain few posters here would rather have NO JUDGE, because to them, it seems like everyone ever indicted or tried and/or convicted of a heinous crime is INNOCENT of the charges brought against them, so there should have been no trial in the first place.

I have opined in the past that these EVERYONE IS INNOCENT posters must have come from criminal stock, or've been very close to a thug life. Blame the system, not the perps.

Am so glad I stopped by to read a few entries. Your observation about some posters and the EVERYONE IS INNOCENT concept as coming from criminal stock and the rest of your opinions on the subject serve to answer my questions about the whys and wherefores re some posters. You've hit the nail directly where it needs hitting! Thanks!

TYVM. :) I really can see no other reason/excuse or whatever, for the mindset some have! Thanks for your opinion. :)

Oh and I think, just a post or two above this, a who-shall-remain-nameless poster has suggested that "Judge Jackie Glass "rocks" as long as she doesn't go after the prosecution, and yell, scream, and play to the media as she is humiliating the prosecution?" -- I'm HUH? If this Judge yells/screams/humiliates ANYONE -- it is deserved. One of the most dearly loved and popular Judges here in LV, The Honorable Judge Joseph Bonaventure (ret) is KNOWN for his admonishments to council should they exhibit any type of shennanigans whatsoever -- the knife cuts both ways. Judges are impartial to "sides." That's why they call 'em Judges. I thought everyone knew that. (Would love to use Mr RollyEyes here, but think it's rather juvenille.)

At any rate, the ones who hate the Judge are the ones who love the criminals. IMO, of course.

I think Mr. Gallanter gets strident and pushy at times. He tends to badger on cross.

Both of these MALES tend to interrupt alot, so I don't begrudge her

I am in business with an attorney, have done business with several attorneys. at least one federal prosecutor and at least one judge. But also, I am familiar with several elected judges and who they were before they were judges. Like I say, most of them couldn't make a living as a lawyer.

This judge is not even a sharp lawyer, IMO.

She reminds me of Halverson.
While I do not know and have only heard about J. Halverson from my Vegas friend, I think you have made a point. But lots more to come re this trial, and I'm sure we'll see Judge Jackie's swift moves, calls, and admonishments!
