Custody Removed by Judge

SAN ANGELO, Texas -- A Texas judge has ordered a 14-year-old girl who was allegedly married to jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs be taken from her mother and placed in foster care.

Texas District Judge Barbara Walther on Tuesday said there was "uncontroverted evidence of the underage marriage."

I'm sorry that the child has to go to foster care, but even more sorry that her mother, Barbara Jessop, allowed her to be married to Warren Jeffs at the age of 12.
Hopefully she will be placed with someone with extraordinary skills so that she can have mental and spiritual freedom in her future.
I wonder if this is the girl who wrote that "comfort wife" letter to Warren? I don't believe that Brooke's blog identified which of the girls it was.

I was glad when I heard this on the news today. I hope many more follow. If the mother is unfit, will there be any charges? Thank you judge.

In the Jessop boy's case, Walther restated many of the orders she put in place after the court-ordered returns, and prohibited contact between both children and their father, who was head of the ranch and a sect bishop but has not been seen or heard from since the raid.

Jeffs remains in an Arizona jail serving time for his role in a marriage between a 14-year-old girl and her 19-year-old cousin. He was convicted in Utah and faces similar charges in Arizona.

Walther also set child support at $180 per month for each parent to help provide for the girl.

Re the $180 per month from each parent, does one have to show income in such custody cases? I thought that was SOP in divorce-type custody. Would this indicate Merrill and Barbara have separate incomes or simply a 50/50 division of the child support?

Barbara's atty Rios says her stating the 5th hurt her. I'm trying to figure a scenario where acknowledging your children could harm you in a criminal prosecution. It is futile to project our thoughts and feelings onto FLDS mothers, but who of us would deny our children and refuse to answer 56 out of 57 questions if we had a chance to have them with us, regardless of instructions from a lawyer.

I wondered about the $180 each for child support.

At first I thought maybe Merril handed over some tax papers but then I thought Nah he couldn't do that.

So I am thinking that she set the min. amount that they calculate for a child to recieve support in the state of Texas.

He doesn't work for a Church. The Ranch isn't listed as a Church.

We all know he isn't working at any hunting lodge. (snicker snicker)

There are no businesses on the farm that have EIN numbers. At least none that I've seen.

Farming ain't what it use to be and with only 6 cows that isn't it.
