For nearly two years, the South Florida middle school art teacher forced the boy to have sex in a classroom supply closet.

Sometimes, Aaron Mohanlal would call in sick to work, take the boy to his home for sex and drop the seventh-grader back off at school at the end of the day.

To keep the abuse secret, Mohanlal bought the 13-year-old a cell phone and created nicknames for their genitalia. When police arrested him, the teacher was caught on hidden video trying to destroy letters threatening the boy if he ever told.

Last summer, a Broward County jury convicted Mohanlal of 13 counts, including child abuse, molestation and lewd battery, and a judge sentenced him to 43 years.

But a year later, Mohanlal has yet to spend a day in prison.

This is higly disturbing. :cuss:

This is almost incomprehensible. Is the judge a closet phedophile with sympathy for this man ? I agree with one of the posters on the newspaper, this judge is elected, VOTE HIM OUT ! He also sounds pretty arrogant.

Incomprehensible indeed. I was thinking the same thing about the judge maybe being a closet pedophile himself. This is just sick.

This is outrageous. And how about those teachers handing out fliers with the kid's name and address on them?

WTH is going on here? :cuss:

An attorney once said to me "You don't realize how much power judges have."

Imo, there should be a judicial review of the judge. That is the quickest way to get his attention.

Wandering,

It wasn't "teachers" handing out fliers with this victim's pic and name on them, it was the now-convicted molester himself--big distinction there, I believe.

Sex offender's bond revoked after year of freedom (http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/08/01/sex.molester.bond/index.html)

A former Florida teacher, who for a year avoided serving a 43-year sentence for sexually molesting a 13-year-old boy, was handcuffed and ordered back into state custody Friday.

Aaron Mohanlal lowered his head as Broward Circuit Judge Marc Gold reversed a decision he made last summer granting the convicted sex offender a $610,000 bond while his conviction was appealed.

The bond was supposed to be secured with properties owned by Mohanlal's relatives. But evidence presented by prosecutors Friday showed there were no liens placed on the properties and they were not worth a fraction of the amount suggested by defense attorneys.

 this is the closest smilie I can find to what I am feeling. But the judge should never have let him out on bond to start with.
