Body Recovery Search Under Way In Ship Canal
SUMMIT, Ill. -- Illinois State Police are assisting on a body recovery call Friday in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.
The U.S. Coast Guard is conducting the search near Summit.
It's unclear what prompted the call.

Yes it is and it is in the time-line. Drive north to dispose of evidence, drive south and turn on your cell phone to prove you were nowhere close to the area in the north.

Thanks. Was hoping for some closure for Stacys family.
I was so excited as I was reading thinkin maybe the body in the canal was going to be Stacy, but NO. I think excited was the wrong word, hopeful is more like it. Waiting for anything to take DP down.
I have so many questions ... what about the GJ and DP's sons testifying, what came of that???
AND ... TMorphey, I think he is the key and we've heard nada, nothing, so frustrating.
I can't imagine the ups and downs these families are going through, but I have faith DP will go down, just not sure when, but he will !!!!!

SEARCHING FOR STACY | Drew's chilling words caught on tape
July 23, 2008
BY JOE HOSEY Sun-Times News Group
Drew Peterson likes to talk an awful lot — especially for a guy whose third wife was murdered and fourth wife is missing.
And now two of his closest friends say they caught it all, cooperating with State Police by wearing a wire and recording seven months of intimate conversations with the former Bolingbrook cop.
Paula Stark and Len Wawczak (right) wore a wire during conversations with their former friend Drew Peterson, who trusted them so much he asked them to stash a .22 caliber folding revolver (inset) after his FOID card was revoked.

Oh man! This is my first post since the boards reopened. This is the best news to come back to. :)
I especially like the fact that the first story about these two friends implied they were upset about the search of their home. I believe they were quoted as saying they believed they were targeted because they are friends of Drew.
Well... we all know now the article was most likely a plant. There never was a search. These friends were helping law enforcement the minute they turned the folding .22 in to police. Drew is screwed. I am most confident that Drew Peterson will be indicted very soon.
It makes me smile. From ear to ear. :D

“To answer the second question first, if Drew had made any incriminating statement to Wawczak and Stark when they were supposedly undercover agents, today’s news would include their arrest for obstruction of justice."
Here we have two people working with law enforcement & Brodsky actually says something as nonsensical as the above.
Brodsky obviously needs help understanding the working relationship between law enforcement & informants.

The keywords in your post are 'that just plain confuses me'.
I believe that's been Brodsky's plan all along. To confuse. I really can't wait for Brodsky to be fired as soon as Drew is indicted. It'll be funny to see a lawyer working pro bono get fired. Or asked to discontinue his Drew advocacy. However it will get spun.

I can't see Drew using Brodsky as a trial attorney either. I think Brodsky think's he's doing a great job, but all I see is a lawyer/ambulance chaser who's in this for the publicity he's getting. Drew would be insane to keep Brodsky for trial... But then it would sure be entertaining to see Brodsky trying to spin things in a courtroom the way he's been trying to do in the media.

A obstruction of justice charge would stem from the release of the information, (if there really is any) by Wawczak and Stark while there is an ongoing investigation. If they indeed were working for the police and had secured incriminating tapes on their behalf those tapes become the property of law enforcement and are not for public consumption and should not be divulged by the procurers. The first article that appeared about this couple is an obvious 'planted' article. I believe law enforcement has something to do with both articles. Hence no bullcrap obstruction charge. Brodsky has his work cut out for him. Again. [/*]

I think the problem with Phil S not understanding that JB's Bulls_it approach (the only one he has) will ultimately fail is because it is only as successful as JB is lead to believe.
In other words JB and Drew open mouths and insert foot on LE command.

You don't even have to ask defense lawyers. Go back and listen/watch some of the videos of the guest panels on Greta's or Nancy's shows and see what they have to say about Brodsky's "tactics". I don't think I ever saw one of those guest defense attorneys defend Brodsky's methods...

Were they ever divulged? All I read is that Drew's friends secretly were wire tapped, but I don't remember reading anything that is on the tapes.

In one of the articles out this morning, it was stated that the things that the couple were divulging were things that were said when they didn't have the wires on. So, whatever is on the tapes, only LE, the couple and Drew know. And, perhaps the GJ? Do you suppose that LE has been playing some of those tapes for the GJ all this time?

I consider JB to be "ignorant" because he believes and backs up all of DP's lies. I understand as a lawyer that is his job. But, why doesn't he just stop making statements as other defense lawyers have recommended? Besides, I could think of alot worse words to use than "ignorant". However, I will refrain from using them.

Joel Brodsky issued a statement following a report published in the Chicago Sun-Times that the former friends of Peterson wore a wiretap and secretly recorded conversations with Peterson for authorities.

yes, they sure are funny, since Ashley definately knew DP in more ways than one.
The one think that struck me about Ashley was the anger/hatred towards DP, that is why many people thought Ashley was a member of Stacy's inner circle. It sure is funny that she/he is an member of DP's.

Right now & since he joined Drew, Brodsky is nothing but a mouthpiece. Sure he did a little legal work for Drew. But he's an attorney acting as a mouthpiece most of all. He won't be around when Drew goes to trial. He'll be on as many news shows as will have him though. I bet.

I guess that makes Brodsky one of THEM who wants to make money off of Drew since 1. he gets paid and 2. they hired that writer to write a book at $100 per copy.
So in reality the only 2 people I really see trying to make money off of Stacy's disappearance (not Drew's missery) is Drew and Brodsky.

With all the news today about Len and Paula (and the Ashley blog!!), I wonder if any of the media were watching to see who, if anyone, went in to the GJ today... It's coming down to the end of the time for this GJ, surely something will happen soon... I HOPE!
I am still grinning about the news and about how Drew and Brodsky tried to spin things in their interviews today!

I was reading a response by Drew on Danya Hookers...petersonstory.wordpress...I am not sure if it is a blog or news source so I won't post a link because I believe its against the rules here...anyway, here is a quote from Drew about Paula and Len:
"But, when people smell money, theres no parameters of who your victims are going to be."
Of all the stuff that comes out of his mouth this is really telling to me. Speaks volumes about the way he thinks. Does he really think all people are like him?

Police respond to Peterson, Wawczak fight
http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/heraldnews/1075142,JO25_PETERSONFIGHT_WEB.article
Former Bolingbrook police officer Drew Peterson and his neighbor and former friend Len Wawczak were escorted to the Bolingbrook police station following a confrontation in the parking lot of a Bolingbrook strip mall Friday afternoon.
At least eight squad cars responded to a confrontation.
After reading the article, I am sitting here shaking my head at the stupidity displayed by BOTH of these guys... Sheesh! Things with Drew seem to be boiling over. No telling what the man is going to do next!

IMO, Drew set Len up for that fight. Going around "bragging" that he slept with Paula, giving dirty looks to Len's son and all the media just "happens to be there". Yeah, right... I'm sure it came off just as Drew planned. What a jerk.
I heard one interview of Paula on one of those links, (I don't remember which one.) where she says that he told her that when the cops come to arrest him, he's going to "commit suicide by cop". Drew is losing it.. Fast.

In all of this mess, every step he has put down people that he chose to be dating, married to, friends with, his relatives, his fellow co-workers, the list goes on and on.
Has DP ever had a nice thing to say about anyone he knows?
Granted this Len mess today is no shining moment for LE but it just makes one shake their head to the kinds of things this case has brought out.
Did the Illinois gov. sign that hearsay rule, yet? I am getting tired of waiting.

I find it highly coincidental that Len's son and Drew just "happened to be at the same barbershop. Remember the control issues he & Stacy had with him following her all over. He probably followed Len's son to this barbershop in hopes of something like this happening. Len did not use good judgement and should have just let it go. And who comes up smelling like a rose? Good ole Drew, again.
IMO Drew can only intimidate women and people younger than himself. He shows great control when he is confronted with someone his age.
I wish this wouldn't have happened. Is Bolingbrook that much of a small town that they would run into each other like this? It makes me think of when I mentioned he looked rough on his most recent interview and now here he is getting his haircut! CREEPY to say the least.

I really wish Wawczak didn't take Drew's bait.
But if he didn't, we probably wouldn't get to hear Brodsky say something as asinine as this:
"I don't want to compare Drew to OJ, but"
I left the context out on purpose. Because even an idiot lawyer should know to NEVER, EVER compare their client to the other guiltiest man on the planet. No matter the context.
Evidently, Brodsky is more of an idiot than I originally thought.
Yet another example of Brodsky's bad lawyering.

Well - it's good news that his gun conviction will proceed. I believe it was Aug. 28?
Maybe now DrewP will have other things to focus on rather than finding a young chick online. Although, come to think of it, that hasn't stopped him before!!!

A Will County judge refused to throw out a gun charge against Drew Peterson on Wednesday.
Judge Richard Schoenstedt set a pretrial hearing for Aug. 28.
In May, Peterson was charged with felony use of an unlawful weapon—namely an assault rifle whose barrel was nearly 5 inches shorter than allowed by state law, according to authorities.
The charge carries a penalty of up to 5 years in prison.

That is excellent news. I've been out and about all day today and was curious what came of the hearing this morning. I would imagine that Mr. Brodsky is feeling rather frustrated this afternoon since his "prediction" of a dismissal of charges didn't happen.

I believe that is what has been reported. Aug. 1st was a "deadline" for this GJ. I wonder if the time will be extended or if they have decided anything...
I do hope that a decision has been made and indictments will be handed down. Drew already has to face the gun charges according to the ruling today.

After April passed, it has been reported the Grand Jury end date will be in August.

Now what they need to do is to arrest him for interferring with an on going investigation due to the fact that he hid and sold that fold up gun after the police had served him with a search warrant to collect all guns. He should have turned it in to the police.

There needs to be some sort of closure for her family and friends.
Hopefully with August 1st being here friday we will finally hear some news of an indictment coming down.
One more thought I had was that the fold up gun that Drew gave to his friends, could that have tried to be passed off to Len because it might have a connection with Stacy. Maybe that is why Drew did not want the boys to testify. Who knows?

So unless there is something to come down soon, I would think that the state would want to get indictments before they are disbanned.

I definitely believe Joel Brodsky won't be around for the murder trial.
I hate to type these next words but... Drew Peterson is too smart to keep that ignorant defense attorney for a murder trial.
I personally can't wait for the first comment out of Drew's mouth when he's taken on the perp walk. Along with the smirks he'll most likely be giving to the camera.
The reason I state the above.... I can't wait for it all to come crashing down around Drew. So seeing him smile in handcuffs is a fair trade off.

I also thought that the guns could not be given back to him because the police voidd his FOID card?
I gues the ISP is trying to sweat him out. Isn't today supposed to be the end of the grand jury hearings? Maybe that is parcel and post to why Drews attorney is making demands of the court.
I have a feeling that something is going to happen soon. I have not read hardly anything about Drew and his attorney since the information about the wire taps and the issue of the Ashley blog. It sure makes me wonder.
I also think that all this media fiasco since Stacy's disappearance was deliberately done to taint the jury pool.

You have read all the signals right, I think. It's gotten quiet with DP and his attorney. There was a case in Texas years ago where 2 young girls were killed, and it seemed that it would become a cold case. But I had a friend in the PD that told me they had men working behind the scenes, keeping up with a person of interest. 1 1/2 years later, the guy confesses to them. Don't give up hope.

If that letter is authentic, that is so terribly sad for those boys. And so damning for Drew.
So DP gets bond terms changed so he can take kids on vacation to FL, so he tells a judge ... BUT then DP leaves all four kids (2 with sister-in law and 2 at home with Mike R.) and he goes to Florida with Brodsky, what a pair, what a team

It seems there could be an alterior motive with this vacation. Why would an attorney go on vacation with his client? It just doesn't make sense to me. Anybody else? They must be really good buds. Priceless!"
I mean really, it just seems like a sick, demented form of voyeurism to take such "PRICELESS!" giddy-glee in something like this - something that children might be excited about, watching some other child suffer.
For me, I take absolutely no joy in that, and find it a most disturbing form of "entertainment". [/*]
Since my post, which you quoted above, seems to bother you so much, I'll respond.
Do I want to see DP in LE custody permanently? Absolutely!
Do I want to see him lead away in handcuffs? Absolutely!
Do I want an ISP news conference so we will finally know what evidence they have accumulated against DP and others? Absolutely!
Do I believe JB is a terrible, inept attorney? Absolutely!
Just so that you understand my post and do not misinterpret the EMOTIONS behind it, I'll clarify. I'm not a "voyeur" who will feel "giddy glee" when DP is finally arrested and tried for murder. I do not find DP entertaining in any way. I am simply a person who has followed this very disturbing case daily for more than nine months and will feel great RELIEF that a man I BELIEVE murdered two women and created a horrific legacy for his children to live with, will be made to stand trial and answer for his actions.
Even though you implied that I was making a mockery of the seriousness of this case - I, on the other hand, feel that Drew Peterson, Joel Brodsky, and Glenn Selig have made a complete mockery of the situation DP has put himself in.
I pray on a daily basis that KS and SP and their children receive justice; that Steve, Eric, Thomas, Kristopher, Anthony and Lacy will eventually be able to live healthy, productive lives despite all the tragedy and heartbreak they have been forced to live through; that SP's remains will be found so she can be laid to rest properly; that the family and friends of KS and SP will finally know what happened to their loved ones; and that once all the legal proceedings are completed, all DP's victims will be able to find some peace.
And finally, you defined "giddy glee" as "something that children might be excited about, watching some other child suffer." So you believe I am giddy about watching DP "suffer?" I find that ironic since I believe DP created the situation he finds himself in and has repeatedly displayed inappropriate "giddy glee" when being questioned about KS and SP. But that's just me, I tend to sympathize with the VICTIMS of crime, not the PERPETRATORS.

After reading all the above comments I have only one thought of the situation that Drew is in. He brought all this issue on due to the fact that he always had to be in control and know every step his wives have taken. He would not have problems with the LE if he was a decent guy that did not try to control all people around him to get what he wanted. In a way it reminds me of a spoiled two year old throwing a temper tantrum just to get their own way. As far as I have been able to discover he always had to have his own way and if he didn't then everybody would pay.
So yes I do believe Drew brought all of this on himself from his professional conduct to the way he treated family and relative.

Good post.
Drew put himself in this situation when he murdered two people.
In my opinion, of course.

IMHO it's a good sign that there are no more witnesses it means they are deliberating and hopefully they are handing down multiple indictments...

Proposed law may give a new look to case of missing girl
Published: 8/11/2008 2:16 PM
State lawmakers on Friday sent to the governor's desk legislation that may affect the possible prosecution of murder suspects in cases such as that of Rachel, Stebic and Peterson in which authorities say they strongly suspect foul play but are limited by a lack of physical evidence without a body. [/*]
Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow pushed for the measure that would allow a judge at a pretrial hearing in a murder case to determine whether so-called hearsay evidence - testimony or documents that quote someone secondhand who is not in court - may be admitted at trial.
Prosecutors would have to prove in a pretrial hearing those statements are reliable and that the defendant's wrongdoing made the witness unavailable to testify. The legislation is less broad but similar to an earlier failed effort that grew after 16-year-old Erin Justice was killed in March 2004, less than a month after accusing her stepfather of raping her in Naperville. He now is on death row.
Glasgow is encouraging area police departments to review unsolved murder cases to see if the new proposal would apply.
Rachel Mellon's father, Jeff Skemp, said he long ago gave up hope that his hazel-eyed child is still alive. Still, he is buoyed by the legislation and hopes it may some day give him some measure of closure.
"To me," he said, "it would be a wonderful blessing if anything ever happened."

This might be another reason they are dragging their feet...they might be waiting for the passage of this bill.

So the grand jury is talking and trying to make a decison on whether there is enough to file charges or not? What a heavy load that must be since there is so much evidence and information to go through. I sure hope for the best for them. Stacy's family and friends are also in my prayers that they will finally see justice. I just cannot even imagine what they are going through. Not knowing where Stacy is and not being able to find her has got to be so hard. Also what about Kathleen? Her family has been waiting so long for the right information to be told about her death. How awful to suspect murder and nobody will listen. These two cases really break my heart.

Pretty quiet here, isn't it? I wonder if Drew and Brodsky are back from their little vacation...
I found an interesting article this morning:
Questions abound over initial probe of Kathleen Savio's death
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-savio_18aug18,0,7919543.story
I also found a mention of the Grand Jury on the Search for Stacy Peterson blog dated 8/14, apparently the Grand Jury wasn't dismissed and they are still meeting and still questioning witnesses:

Thanks for the update Anakerie. :)
From the blog link:
Stacey's uncle Kyle Toutges said he testified for about an hour, during which investigators asked him where he thought his niece might be in light of her husband’s comments that she had left him for another man and is “where she wants to be.”
“The only other place she would want to be is in heaven with her sisters,” Toutges said. “If she was on this earth, she would want to be with her kids. That’s where she would be.”
Interesting.

Very interesting, isn't it? It sort of goes along with what we've seen posted a number of times, both here and on the Stacy forums/blog... "She's where she wants to be."... I don't think that Drew's statement could have made it any clearer in light of what her Uncle told the GJ...

I keep doing searches on Drew and most of the time come up empty. This morning was an exception though. Two items of interest for a change. I hope something happens soon too...
It's good to see you too, north... I've mostly been lurking here on insession lately. Occasional posts on the Caylee Anthony threads, but most of my efforts have gone to my blog and the other blog I was invited to post on about the fires here in Calif... Summer is hot.. I am ready for cooler weather.. lol
I hope you're enjoying your summer!

Seems to me if they are resorting to what her uncle "thinks" as GJ testimony, they don't have much else.
