Thanks for the links Walton. Glad Parker & his crew are out for now, and I hope that Judge Denise's ruling is upheld. If Parker knew of all the wrong doing by Warren and crew, he should face some consequences.
The FLDS always want it their way. In the Deseret News article Willie claimed "psychological and sociological warfare," yet they always accuse others of playing the religious persecution card. Also I wonder when was the Berry Knoll Farm designated as a temple site? Was this documented somewhere in the past, or something they came up with to stop the sale.
Anyone know what's going with AZ and Warren? Do y'all think we'll ever see Merrill on the FBI's mosted wanted list? I would love to turn on AMW one Saturday night and see his face on the screen.
:seeya:
Concerning the Berry Knoll Farm being designated as a temple site I remember reading Ben Bistlines book and it was stated in there as such. It was also mentioned in Carolines book I believe. I think it is also mentioned in many of the letters written on some of the FLDS sites.
And yet........ Warren built the Temple in Texas. Why were they saving this piece of land? Was it such a money maker that they wanted it to keep generating monies for the FLDS?
more on the Berry Knoll later.
"Psychological and sociological warfare" has been a practice the FLDS leaders have been playing for years. imo Anything trailing the capture of Warren, the Raid, the arrests and court proceedings concerning the FLDS have been of their own making. again jmo
I personally am hoping that one day I will find out the whole story behind everything that has gone in the last 4-5 years. I do know that whom ever the Feds have helping them is one smart cookie and I like the guy or gal. Thumbs up from me.
I think the Feds know exactly where Merril is placing his boots nightly. :)

I was confused how Parker played both sides, until I read a comment on this article. Basically, Parker used to represent lawsuits to evict FLDS families, but now he is suing the trust for selling land and trying to evict FLDS families for not paying the $100/mo fee or signing occupancy papers. Is this correct?
Parker has been involved for years. This spider web is HUGE. I only know of just a little bit.
I gotta give Wisan a lot of credit. The man knows his job and does it well imo. Judge Lindberg did well by getting him involved.

I thought I had a thread on here talking about the Berry Knoll Farms but I guess it might have been merged with or slid off the site.
But.. that is ok.
Check this out: http://thehopeorg.org/news_dakota_CCC_new_FLDS_compound_discovered.html
The residents in the Fall River County area eight miles northwest of Edgemont off River Road along the Cheyenne River — four miles east of the Wyoming line — thought their neighbors were a little strange.
It was reported among them that the women, who were rarely seen, wore long purple dresses all alike, and the men wore long shirts, even in the heat of the summer.
Heavy equipment is being used at all times of the day and night and they just don’t seem neighborly, like they want to talk much, said Dawn Engelbert, a neighbor. She and her husband, Everett, stood at the fence line to meet their new neighbors recently, only to have three people drive up to talk to them. One, a young boy around 6, drove up on a four-wheeler, a man arrived on a track hoe and another man drove up to them in a pickup. They didn’t talk much, didn’t tell them where they were from, just said they were engaged in farming and would probably run a few cows on the land.

more from that article:
Fall River County has no planning and zoning and no building permits are required, said Tarrell.
Kathy Mankin, owner of the Eldorado Success with her husband, Randy, in Eldorado, Texas — where the FLDS compound was raided earlier this year — contacted private investigator Sam Brower, who said the name definitely indicates that these people are FLDS. According to Brower, FLDS member Sterling Harker has been going out buying properties. Mankin’s research revealed that Oak Valley, Inc., is a Wyoming corporation.
Sterling Harker? I wonder if this Sterling Harker is the same same Sterling Harker mentioned here: http://www.religionnewsblog.com/15021/flds-trust-guardian-seeking-information-about-family-farm
Sterling Harker said he believed his father, who died in January 1998, had deeded the family farms to the trust, but that he was unaware of any legal paperwork to prove it.
That was his desire, that’s what he always taught his children,” said Sterling Harker, who plans to show up for the July depositions.
Sterling Harker also said he has been removed - by his brother Stephen Harker - from any leadership roles in the family businesses, although he continues to work at Harker Brothers Dairy.
He said I asked too many questions,” Sterling Harker said.

Two brothers allege in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit they were cheated out of ownership interests in a rural Utah farm by leaders of a polygamous sect - a claim that could derail a planned sale of the farm by the United Effort Plan Trust.
On Friday, the UEP Trust countersued the men because of a lien they placed on the farm.
Sterling J. and William S. Harker are seeking more than $10 million in damages and stock ownership interest in what is known as the Harker Farm in Beryl.

Polygamy Leader Eating After Tube Feeding Reality Check
e-Press
Tri-State News Network
Originally published October 10, 2008
KINGMAN - Those high security details whisking polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs from the jail to the hospital may be a thing of the past. Once this fall and previously this past summer, Jeffs, 52, had to be rushed to medical facilities after growing frail and weak from refusing to eat regularly while incarcerated in the Mohave County jail in downtown Kingman. Jail officials said Wednesday that Jeffs is now cooperating and putting on weight since he was confronted with the possibility that he'd be force-fed through a tube if he continued his sporadic intake of food and liquids. Jeffs awaits trial for sex offenses for alleged arrangements of spiritual unions involving underage Colorado City girls with their adult male relatives.
I bet they tried to put one down(naso-gastric), and that changed his mind. Not a pleasant procedure, depending on the size of the tube....or there's always the tube that is surgically implanted into the stomach... :chicken:
Hi GGW, I so agree with Grammy on your post. To stop and really contemplate all the ramifications of preteen and teen years being swallowed up...it is so wrong on so many levels.
I hadn't read that article about the therapy dogs visiting the children. It is hard to imagine those children not even knowing what a dog looks like  So much for their claims that the children were well educated.
It is very good news that Warren is eating, but too bad he's not on the tube. I always thought that was simply a manipulation and control mechanism he used so IMO it would serve him right.

The lawsuit names Jeffs and former trustees Truman Barlow, Leroy Jeffs, James Zitting, William Jessop, the Corporation of the President and the Corporation of the Presiding Bishop of the Fundamentalist LDS Church.
Recently, the FLDS Church's former lawyer Rod Parker withdrew as the registered agent for the FLDS corporations. William Timpson Jessop was listed as the registered agent and the address of the corporations belongs to Lyle Jeffs, one of Warren Jeffs' brothers. However, Wisan said he did not believe Jessop is in Hildale.
Where is this Willie? and where is Lyle and Leroy?

Former member Richard Holm told us, "I think Wendell Nielsen is the behind-the-scenes Wizard of Oz, pulling the strings." He's believed to be living in Las Vegas, where his old company operates under a new name, keeping up the flow of money. There's an unverified report Nielsen came back to town last weekend and convened a suit-and-tie meeting, inside a warehouse, surrounded by a fleet of vehicles.
I wonder where this Wendell Nielsen is keeping himself?

Romney knows exactly how tightly the lid has been fit to conceal the polygamy problem -- locally, on the state level and federally. On the local level, the twin towns of Hildale-Colorado City, for instance, are organized as the United Effort Plan (UEP). UEP is "unofficially" represented by attorney Rodney Parker.
According to Jay Beswick, Parker represented both the now-unseated Hildale polygamist judge Walter Steed and convicted Colorado City polygamist cop Rodney Holm. Parker is with the law firm of Snow, Christensen and Martineau, which also represents the State of Utah. Rodney Parker is also the registered agent of the FLDS Corporations and Twin City Academy, Inc. in Hildale; all the above in good standing in the State of Utah.

Kirk Ellis, who won an Emmy for penning the HBO miniseries "John Adams," has been tapped to write "Escape," to which Katherine Heigl is attached to star for Relevant Entertainment. "Escape" tells the true story of Carolyn Jessop, who after years of being in a forced polygamous marriage escaped from the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints with her eight children. Ellis will be adapting Jessop's book. Relevant's Michael Menchel is producing along with Heigl and her mother Nancy Heigl via their Abishag shingle. The project is being independently financed by Catherine Williams and her Como Court Prods. Williams also is acting as a producer. Ellis, who won another Emmy for "Adams" as co-executive producer, also garnered Emmy nominations for his work on the miniseries "Into the West" and for writing "Anne Frank: The Whole Story." He is repped by CAA and Thruline.

I really don't know why the thread is missing. I do know that to make room on the board Coldwater sometimes has to clean house. I am looking for more info on John Wayman. Has anyone heard anything? Seen anything?
The vehicle Warren was arrested in was registered under Johns name. Has any one been charged with helping Warren when he was on the run?
I am also wondering does anyone remember to what extent Dr. Barlow played in his health care while being in jail and especially before his "breakdown" ?
Berry Knoll the " this is the place" site. I am still having issues with this.
What is at the Berry Knoll? Why would this group come out of hiding per se to defend a piece of property?
If Willie the spokesperson (not the new appointed Prophet) told them all to come out to protect the land couldn't he easily have told them to come out and claim their kids?
What is so special about that piece of property? If they truly thought it was the Place why did they build the temple in Texas??
Berry Knoll Farms- which supposedly isn't located at the Berry Knoll right? So what is the scoop there? Is this what they call the Harker Farms?
Church- Who is going to Church and who is the Preacher man? Are they holding services at the Temple? What is the Temple being used for? Are they holding services in St. George?
Are they still listening to Warren on tape?
Where is Gary Engles? I know he is keeping himself busy but what is he doing?
How about Buster Johnson?
The Safety committee?
What happened to the kids at the house on the bluff?
Where is Johnny Jessop? Gideon Barlow? Was Dan Barlow ever charged with fraud?
What ever happened to those police officers that worked for Warren while getting paid by the state and federal govt?
How about the local yokel politicians that didn't do a damn thing? Where are they now?
I am going back to google land. I'll stop back later.

Court orders Flora to testify and only legal counsel can be present.
IMO, this is ALL related to the cases in Texas. From this order:
"However, the Court gathers from the pleadings in this file that the defense is asserting that Ms Jessop may have had some communication with the person who is believed to have made the initial telephone call which led to the issuance of the search warrants in Texas which have been challenged by the defense in this case. Although the State has previously indicated that it does not intend to use any evidence seized as a result of those search warrants and that a ruling by this Court on the legality of those searches would be unnecessary, the hearing on October 28, 2008, did not necessarily convince either the Court or the defense that that issue would never have to be addressed."
Does this mean that at some point Arizona might rule on the legality of the searches at the YFZ in Texas? And thus set a "precedent?" Can they do that?
FLDS lawyers are just using this as an opportunity to "go fishing".
Also, Sheriff Doran, Deputy Sheriff Connor, and Texas Ranger :patriot: Long are scheduled for Depos on Dec. 18th and 19th.

Judge: Former FLDS member must submit to interview
Jessop acknowledged on Thursday that she invited a reporter to the deposition. But she says that was only after Jeffs' attorney, Mike Piccarreta, had invited one, too, who Jessop declined to have present.
"I don't care if the cameras are there or not. The point was Mr. Piccarreta invited media of his choosing, who is pro-polygamous, to the interview," Jessop said. "I opted to have somebody there that would tell the truth, and that's what he didn't like."
Piccarreta denied inviting a reporter or having one present.
"One, Flora certainly doesn't let the truth get in the way of a good story, and two, there were not other reporters there nor were there other reporters invited," Piccarreta said.

"What I want for Christmas? What my wish would be?" says Jessop. "To spend a whole day with my mom and sisters, and just have them pretend to like my company."
In the apartment shared by five of the Lost Boys, since the day they put the tree up, the Christmas tree lights have never been turned off.
The tree "fills up space, fills a hole," Jessop says.

Man faces 30 years in jail for sex abuse case
Wayland Wightman Wyler, a former member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, pleaded guilty to both counts back in June, after being incarcerated for eight months awaiting trial.
From the article:
Little said the plea deal occurred because the county thought it best for the case, given the evidence collected during an investigation by the Iron County Sheriff's Office.
"To protect (the victim), we let him plea to lesser charges," Little said, noting that initially Wyler had pleaded innocent but changed his plea as a result of the negotiation. "(The victim) was scared to death. We had to protect her mental health."
Little said the court left it up to the department of corrections if Wyler would serve his two sentences concurrently or consecutively.Boyack said his client was up for parole because he served 455 days in prison before sentencing, but it's not likely he will be given it.
Lets hope they keep his butt in jail...with this plea deal, he actually could be paroled. Why spend all this time to get a conviction, and then set up the deal so he could get out soon? :cursing:

Interesting pictures of some of those that were arrested during the raid in 1953. Some of the pictures show a loving family sitting around the piano. Family of one Clyde Mackert.
http://www.rickross.com/reference/polygamy/polygamy54.html
Keeping sweet, Chapman says, meant staying silent as her father molested her starting at age 3. It meant hiding her secret from her 30 brothers and sisters. It meant being lashed with a yardstick by one of her father's four wives. It meant having to quit school at age 11, then work without pay in a store owned by her church's prophet.
and further into the article:
Seven female apostates interviewed for this story said they were molested or raped as children. None of their alleged perpetrators were charged. Four of those apostates are Chapman and her sisters Rena Mackert, Louise Mackert and Kathleen Swaney, who all said their earliest memories are of being sexually abused by their father, Clyde Mackert. Louise recalls lying awake as her father molested her little sister Rena in the same bed.
And Clyde Mackerts comment:
Clyde Mackert refused comment about his daughters' allegations. "I don't want to talk about it," he said. "I'm not interested in this conversation."
I just bet not Clyde.
http://thehopeorg.org/abuses_LVS_Kathleen_Mackert_steps_into_storm_over_ FLDS.html
Although her father’s magazine debut made it seem the children of Short Creek should stay with their parents, Mackert’s media appearances after the April raid of Yearning for Zion Ranch came with a different message: Get those girls out of Texas. She should know. She was one once — an FLDS teenager with plaited hair and prairie dresses — helpless then as she feels now.
And as I've said so many times before Polygamy is rarely ever just about consenting adults.
Pyle did the right thing in 1953.
And those politicians with no backbone were wrong in stepping back by allowing this to go on.
I hope those wishy washy politicians quit talking out of the sides of their mouths.
Texas did the right thing.

I have been following the stories coming out of Utah for years about the polgys, starting with the John Singer and Addam Swapp shooting and siege.
Here's hoping Texas has enough solid evidence to put an end to the ritualized abuse of children and woman sanctioned by a religion.
How are they going to sort out all of the DNA when so many involved with YFZ are so closely related and interrelated. Parsing the DNA is going to be a nightmare.

Ha HA very funny, got your joke LMAO:tonguewag:
Yes Texas did the right thing, the Hope org is a very good source of info on FLDS and other polig groups. Yes Gov. Pyle did the right thing, but didn't handle the PR well. As state eariler Short Creek & Waco made LE Gov't lose it's stomach for dealing with these groups, but open disscussion of this issue on internet is important as it helps keep the light focused on the problem. And cockroaches like Warren Jeffs, Willie the Thug etc. can't stand the light of day.
It appears that the feds will find polygamist Mitchell competant, and this will focus light front and center on issue of polygamy, nation & worldwide, and the abuses associated with polygamy. They will go to trial IMO on this case.
Expect continued media interest as the FLDS people arrested by Texas go on trial. As to the issue of consenting adults, I would not have problem with polygamy, but agree 100% with Walton's statement: "And as I've said so many times before Polygamy is rarely ever just about consenting adults."

i do not believe the abuse can ever be really stopped, but we can hope that it could just be nibbled away a piece at a time.
one thing from the texas raid was when willie said that they would agree to not let any marriages take place until the girls were at least 16. if we can trust him???? and is this just for the ones in the state of texas because texas changed their laws?
i would like to see some utah and arizona polys come up with the same statement.
also wish that all the states would start requiring supervision of the home schooled children. i know that relatives in georgia who home school their children have to use approved teaching materiels and do tests on what they have learned. i would seem to me that all states would require some level of oversight. grammybear would you know if there are any regulations in utah on home schooling?

I had wondered about the close family relationships with the DNA. But is seems to me that someone at one time told me that there are factors in each persons DNA that would seperate them from other members of the same family. I have no doubt that Texas will be able to sort all this out.
<snipped>
Has anybody heard any word on the depositions that were supposed to take place in Arizona. I thought that Flora was supposed to be deposed last week and the Texas Rangers today.
Oh how I would love to be a fly on the wall with those depositions.

Grammy, I remember reading something about the DNA testing, too, wish I knew where I read it...but I think you are correct that it doesn't matter how genetically similar this group may be, they can still show who the mother and father of a child is.
Texas LE was deposed last week, Thurs and Fri I think, but no one will comment on what happened. I know the court ruled Flora is to be deposed (no cameras this time) but I can't find where a date was set yet for the deposition.

ANOTHER great example of newspaper coverage to shine the light . LET IT SHINE, LET IT SHINE. thank you
when the children in texas were in foster care my niece in corpus christi was one of the volunteers who went into the place some of the children were kept and helped them with classwork. she said she was surprised to find the level they were reading was very high for their ages. but what are they allowed to read might be the problem . she also told me the girls were extremely well mannered and very motherly towards the younger children.

Announcing 2008 Gucci Tribeca Documentary Finishing Fund Recipients
The Tribeca Film Institute and Gucci announced the first recipients of the Gucci Tribeca Documentary Finishing Fund today. Seven projects were selected from a pool of 450 applicants from 28 countries to receive a total of $80,000, to be administered by the Tribeca Film Institute. The Fund provides grants and post production guidance to independent filmmakers in need of finances to complete feature length documentaries that promote social change and illuminate issues in need of comprehensive coverage currently missing from mainstream media.
Sons of Perdition by Jennilyn Merten and Tyler Measom is a rare, inside look at polygamist teens who have become religious refugees in mainstream America. The film reveals the hidden world of polygamy through the eyes of five exiled teens and the dictatorial prophet who has banished them from their families, community, and religious salvation. With unprecedented access, SONS OF PERDITION captures the raw, daily struggle of polygamy’s lost children and their extraordinary quest to survive, succeed and belong.
“First and foremost all of the jurors were overwhelmed by the strength of all the projects we were asked to consider, so the task of making our actual selections was really tough,” said selection committee member John Battsek. “Ultimately we went for the projects that moved us most and that we felt either provided a fresh perspective on a story or just felt like the story was too important to ignore.”
http://www.tribecafilminstitute.org/documentary/projects/
I had the chance to chat briefly with Jay Beswick today (:blushing: and:wub:) and he's excited about this documentary about the "lost boys." I had asked about whatever happened to the boys who had to leave the House Just Off Bluff in St. George because of licensing problems. He suggested I e-mail the HOPE organization, but my computer will not send the mail for some reason. Anybody out there want to try?

2 op-ed pieces, the first amazingly written by the Salt Lake Tribune
Religious freedom or sexual abuse?
Based on evidence in a recently released report, The Tribune's editorial board comes out in support of the state of Texas' raid on the FLDS compound in Eldorado:
Any community that arranges marriages of girls as young as 12 to much older men, encourages these young women to conceive children when they are still minors and uses religious dogma and threats of ostracism to keep them in line is inherently abusive. If parents condone and participate in these practices, they are abusers, as the state alleges.
http://blogs.sltrib.com/slcrawler/2008/12/freedom-of-religion-vs-sexual-abuse.htm
and from The Dallas Morning News, a terrific piece
We can live with criticism over polygamist compound raid, but not a lack of action
...the ugly-but-essential truth remains: Underage girls were routinely being “married” — and sexually violated — by middle-aged men, and nobody was doing a darn thing to stop it until the state of Texas showed up.

An early article stated that Parley Jeffs Dutson would have a court appointed lawyer. That may be Denise Porter and Brian Gardner. All I could find on the 2 of them was that Denise Porter is an attorney in Salt Lake City.
Trenton K. Ricks is associated with the Utah Coalition for Religious Freedom and Tolerance.
http://www.religious-freedoms.org/
His name is on an appeal written for Thomas Green, the convicted bigamist. He provided "for amicus" info for the appeal.

Wonder if he just came in at the end of this case, since he is only spoken of once Parley had already been convicted, but before sentencing.

Actual report.
Thanks, Texas-SE for the links
For those interested in this topic-women that escaped from FLDS have written books about it. Interesting and disturbing stuff! This is sexual abuse! Two books that I read over the summer were "Stolen Innocence" and "Escape". Worth reading!:read:

I tried calling the Hope Org. I think with the time change- I called too late as there was no answer. I will continue to try.
I looked for a listing for Brian Gardner attorney at law and found none.
This is the only thing I could find on Denise Porter. But I am sure this can't be right as this lady is a tax lawyer.
http://lawyers.justia.com/lawyer/denise-porter-997463
Here is what I could find on what is happening with Parley.

It's really frustrating and upsetting," said Heidi Neilson, a relative. "They want to keep prolonging it, and it makes it harder and harder. I'm afraid he's going to get off or get seven years."
Dutson's murder charge carries a potential 15 years to life in prison. The aggravated sexual assault conviction could get a sentence of either 6, 10 or 15-years-to-life.
Thanks Julie for the links and names but I just can't seem to find contact numbers for either lawyer.
Grammy I also believe that Warren has a lot to answer for.
I understand what Warren did and why he did the things he did.
What I don't understand is the many "officials" that saw what has been going on and the lack of them doing anything to help end this mess.

Here is one more book that explains an awful lot about how and why.
When Men Become Gods by Stephen Singular. A must read imo.

Great book! I read that over the summer too. When I was at the beach reading, people would actually come up to me and ask about the book! I guess because the cover and title intrigued them.

Ok so Dutson was sent for a 60 day evaluation and was to return to court on October 24, 2008. So have there been any reports on what happened in court in October?
jmoo
:seeya: grammy, hope your holidays were nice
I looked and looked yesterday and could never find a thing about the sentencing. Wonder if he went in for the psych evaluation, and has never come out? Maybe Trenton Ricks is managing to keep delaying the sentencing. Tried to e-mail a couple of places to ask, but something about "q-mail" means they won't go through (no idea what that is).

grammy,
In the trailer for the new documentary "Sons of Perdition", the boys talk about how long they feel suicidal when they are kicked out. One boy said he felt that way for the first year. No wonder they drug and drink, trying to kill themselves, or at least the pain for a while. Can you imagine how Parley felt when he realized he had killed the girl he loved while crazy out of his mind on mind-altering substances?
Good chance he's still in that hospital, and I hope he is getting therapy, cause he's going to have to live with this the rest of his life.
Hopefully Kara's family has also had support after their terrible loss.

Here Teal.

Time to leave the computer behind, and hope for a year to come where the FLDS actually honor their vow not to marry underage girls to older men. Heck, lets even hope the girls get to choose who to marry! To all my fellow posters:
Happy New Year!
