Dad naps.. toddler leaves the house, is found walking around a park

This happened to a neighbor ACROSS THE STREET from me in Cali many yrs ago. Mid day, I got a knock at my door by a little boy who was riding his bike down our street. His eyes were huge as he twirled around & pointed to a (my neighbor's) baby crawling up my walkway in a (dirt stained knees & hands) sleeper. Shocked, I scooped up the child...as I ran across the street I just knew the mother had to be ill ,dead/murdered. Her attached garage door was open so I entered the house from there.
The mom was asleep sitting straight up on her couch.
Seems the baby (who knew & liked me) had crawled out through their garage,down the driveway, across a busy residential street & almost to my front door. The mom and myself really begain to get sick when we realized what could of happened. It will always haunt me. That was one lucky day!

Some parents don't take their responsibilities seriously. A guy I know slept while his toddler turned on the bathtub and flooded the trailer they were living in. Lucky that child wasn't electrocuted. :(

I don't think the father was being negligent. I'll bet they BOTH planned to nap together, and the child woke up and got out without waking Daddy.

Anyone who thinks this could never happen to them, answer these questions: Do single parents never sleep? Do married parents take turns sleeping or bathing? No, they don't.

[/*]I never took a nap when my toddlers were awake, or a bath either, for that matter. I'm sure lots of parents fall asleep without intending to, and each case is different.

That's where I was coming from.

About 10 years ago, 3-year-old identical twin girls in Nebraska sneaked out of the house in the middle of the night, and were found the next morning in a snowbank, near death. One of them lost a few toes but they otherwise made full recoveries. Their parents didn't know they had gotten out until morning. :eek:

A lot of people wanted to hang the parents up to dry, but just in the town where I lived, people told stories about their kids sneaking out like this, and the Mothers of Twins group tossed in their two cents as well, saying that identical twins are NOT the same as singletons or even fraternal twins of the same age.

Unless the father was drunk or had a habit of negligent behavior, I wouldn't be so quick to condemn him.

I am so confused as to how these babies and children can get out of a locked residence. IMO
