A 33-year-old Colorado Springs woman who may have sparked a massive child-protection raid at a polygamist compound in Texas kept a steady job and gave no hint of her activities to those closest to her.
"She is the last person I would expect to do something like this," said a woman in her mid-20s who described herself as the roommate of Rozita Swinton. Speaking at the door of their apartment, the roommate described Swinton as a steady, soft-hearted person.
But growing evidence indicates Swinton repeatedly made calls to authorities in multiple jurisdictions, setting off large emergency responses that sometimes involved dozens of police officers.
The Texas Ranger Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed Friday that Swinton was a person of interest in calls placed to a crisis hotline by someone claiming to be Sarah, a 16-year-old girl who had been sexually abused and beaten by a 50-year-old polygamous husband.

This page contains the transcript of Fora Jessop on the AC 360 show. He had an exclusive with her about the calls. The transcript contains the actual words from Fora and the caller.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0804/18/acd.01.html

"...360's Gary Tuchman is working the story, joins us now with exclusive details.

Gary, what in the heck is going on?

GARY TUCHMAN, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Well, Anderson, a very bizarre and troubling development. Authorities raided the compound after getting calls from a girl in the sect who said she was being brutalized. But was that 16-year-old calling actually a 33-year-old impostor? It's possible.

And now you will be able to listen to this person's voice yourself.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

TUCHMAN (voice-over): Texas authorities raided the polygamist compound in Eldorado after they received frantic calls from a 16-year- old girl named Sarah, who they still haven't found, who said she was being abused and held against her will. Three days before the raid, Flora Jessop, a former member of the FLDS, who now works to rescue children at the sect, received a frantic call, too.

FLORA JESSOP, FORMER MEMBER, FUNDAMENTALIST CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS: She told me her name was Sarah. She told me that she was beaten all the time. She was on medication. She was locked away in a basement.

TUCHMAN: After the raid, the calls kept coming, but, strangely, the girl now said she was an identical twin sister of Sarah, named Laurie (ph). ..."

One thing that caught my eye here is Rose saying she was on medication. That part of her statement is probably true considering her mental illness. And maybe, because of her mental illness she was 'locked' in a basement. How many of the houses built on the polygamy compounds have basements?

Just some thoughts and my own curiosity. :hat:

The more I read, the more obvous it is there are two seperate call incidences. Calls to Flora Jessop and calls to the abuse hotline in Texas.

http://www.icdbridges.org/newbridge/

This is the abuse center that received the calls on March 29 and 30.

It appears the calls to NewBridge are the calls that prompted the raid at the Texas compound. NewBridge is a local facility that heps victims of domestic violence.

In the calls that came to Flora Jessop, the caller says she is in Colorado City, AZ.

I confess to not having followed this case as closely as the rest of you, but IIRC didn't the media mention an undercover agent as being in the TX FLDS compound for 4 years?

Perhaps it was on the agent's word the compound was raided and not really a phone call from Sara.

Hi Poochie! :seeya:

I think so too, or the CPS would not have made such a bold move and taken such radical steps. Perhaps the undercover agent was able to film some of the stuff, which might be introduced as evidence at a later date.

Nice to see you!

I believe the police have stated they have had someone on the inside of the FLDS for years, but have NOT stated exactly which compound that person is in. Could be their informant is in the Utah, or one of the other branches. That'd explain why they waited, that informant possibly was providing general information about how the cult works, but had no first-hand evidence about the Texas ranch.

You might be right. But I think for that compound to be raided, there must be substantial evidence, and I don't think it's merely a phone call from Sara.

Part of the confusion, I think, is that the "raid" was actually two separate raids... CPS went in, supported by the police, to investigate a child's call for help. THEN, the police went in to collect the evidence for the current mess. (I hope all agree that a child's call for help should be enough for CPS to look into things, especially for crimes of this nature! I don't know Texas law, but I know around here, they're required to investigate calls like that.)

The calls for help were sufficient evidence for CPS to open an investigation. They went in with police support, believing that they might well run into resistance. (I'm not saying they expected violence, but they may have expected a lack of cooperation, which they've certainly found in abundance.) Their findings were evidence for the police investigation. The police investigation was opened before the CPS finished. I posted a link on The Smoking Gun website to the police's warrant, and that refers to interviews made by CPS during their investigation.

Something fishy with this timeline and these persons visiting Warren at the time the abuse call was made. Keate is also one of the signatures on the letter sent to the Texas governor. She may be knee deep in the cover up or moving of Sarah.

I also think that there is a Sara that called the Texas hotline.

Now I know there was a Keate girl that testified at Warrens hearing on his behalf but it wasn't Patricia. It was a girl named JoAnna I think.

What I can't get is the connection. Keate and Warren. From what I've read the only ones to have seen Warren were men. And then his wife Naomi.

Why did this woman show up with Merril Jessop? And 4 days later the raid took place but she wasn't at the compound when it was raided. Merrill was there but she wasn't?

18 hours to Salt Lake.

The thing sticking in my brain...there was a red head on one of the first few interviews, said her age was 17 or 18 yo, wasn't married, no children. I don't remember the name she gave in the interview, sure it is in the transcripts...LKL or something can't remember. All I could think was, how did she end up with the women on the ranch? Age and all. I wonder if she is Keate? She might have ended up with the wives if she was out of town during the raid. Maybe a spiritual wife to Warren (pure speculation on my part.) Watched her heading into the courthouse during the hearing. I don't know...JMO/IMO

Hey Hey Paula, FOUR YEARS? That's an awful long time to be undercover trying to find enough info to do a bust. If they couldn't find anything in four years, well, I wonder how much there really was to find :(

I do not want child abuse, of course, but this info, coupled with the fact that the initial call was a hoax--makes me think there may be skullduggery afoot, and it's quite likely that rights have been violated.

Tough call, very tough call, all the way around.

took a couple of days off and feel much better. I must wonder if the reason for the visit was to tell Warren what had happened to some of the children. Maybe they moved some of the women and children and maybe some of the men have moved to another location. Do they still record your conversations when you visit someone in jail ?

From the County Attorney Matt Smith:

County Attorney Matt Smith. On April 2, a day before a massive raid on the YFZ Ranch began, he was visited by Patricia Keate. Both Keate and Merlin Jeffs listed the Eldorado, Tex., compound as their residence, Smith said.

http://recent-us-news.com/data/articles_n15/idn2008.04.11.07.48.29.html

Merlin Jeffs visited Warren in prison on Mar 30. I don't have a clue where to search for who these people are and what their connection would be to Warren Jeffs.

Is this woman in Colorado Springs a psycho? She does this kind of stuff over and over, but the people she is involved with on a daily basis, her roommate, her co-workers, say she seems very normal and stable, they would never guess this woman would do something like this.

How does somebody that is so sick in the head hold down a full time job with responsibilities?

Do any of these guys look familar to anyone?

Cell phones- I know zip about them and how they work. pre-paid or not. When a person buys a pre-paid can you request your own number?

Would a person be able to hang on to a pre-paid phone for a couple of years?

Why were the Canadian Mounites involved in the investigation of the phone calls?

I've read the two articles about Rosie- Was she now arrested for making these phone calls? or even though there is evidence linking her to the calls is she still considered a person of "interest"?

I've been following this thing for 4 years. Either I am really bad at finding out stuff or Rosie is really good. How did she know that there would be someone named Sara there?

More importantly why did she name the accuser as such?

Just guessing on some of this, but... If you get a pre-paid phone, you get a number, like any other phone, and, as long as you keep it up, you can keep it for as long as you want.

I'm figuring the Mounties were involved because she's made calls to Canada. Beyond that, it'd all be serious guesswork.

They're probably waiting for a mental evaluation, and/or to figure out exactly what they want to arrest her FOR.

Sarah's one of the biblical names, fairly good bet there's at least a couple Sarah's at any of the FLDS compounds. Probably a number of Ruths, as well.
