SAN ANGELO, Texas - All their lives, the girls in the polygamist sect in the West Texas desert were told that the outside world was hostile and immoral, and that venturing beyond the brilliant white limestone walls of their compound would consign them to eternal damnation.

From the same link:

" Meanwhile, in court papers unsealed Friday, authorities said they found a "cyanide poisoning document" in their search of the compound in the town of Eldorado. But the 80-page list of items seized gave no further explanation. "

No shock there. I'm not surprised that they were told that they'd be forced to have sex with multiple men outside the walls - hard to find something to threaten more horrendeous than what they faced by staying. And the whole mass suicide thing - they've got all the marks of a cult that would go that way.

This whole thing is just to big to rap my head around. I have a hard time, even trying to imagine. Can't do it.

On an emotional level this is really bothering me. On a legal level...I'm just not familiar enough with TX law. That will probably change.

The cyanide thing could be very worrisome. This group has changed a great deal in the last decade.

BTW Hi Sly! Good to see you around. "Broken Wings."

The very basis of this religion is fear.

The "cyanide document" that the news papers keep using as a headline was actually a few pages torn from a first aid book telling what to do if you suspect cyanide poisoning. Many of the businesses on the compound would have had a use for cyanide so it would not be unusual for it to be around.
I think this is just an attempt by the newspapers to sell more papers with an attention grabbing headline.

I kind of figured...with all of the construction they do themselves. Cyanide is used a good deal in the metal cutting business.
Without more information though and trying not to jump to conclusions. How do you keep things from being sensationalized. Therein lies a good deal of work.

I disagree.

Some are based on love and faith.

I believe you should research many religions. You may find some that are based on Love nd Hope.
