Hmmm...I know it says that all their pets are accounted for, but I'm wondering how much, if any, food was left out for their pets - did it look like the pets had a lot of food in their bowls? That would indicate that maybe they were planning on a little getaway. JMO

But someone would have to take the dog out. It sounds like they love their pets, I don't think they left them alone on purpose (I know I wouldn't just leave my dog alone behind).
Mercedes is missing, I wonder maybe they got into a car accident. I hope they are safe somewhere

After reading the article it appears that there may be foul play. According to family and friends this couple would not walk away from responsibility.
There seems to be no trace of them. No clues, no nothing at this point. I will try to keep track of this as I think something has happened to these people.

*****, their dog was boarded at a kennel in Atlanta and their cat lives on their boat (now being looked after by friends) and from this article, the couple does not seem to have any financial troubles at all, with all taxes paid up on their properties.

Missing Couple's Car Found on SC Island
By RUSS BYNUM – 3 hours ago
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — A car belonging to a missing couple was found a few miles from the gated yacht community where they live part time, but yielded no clues about their whereabouts, authorities said.
John and Elizabeth Calvert were last seen Monday. Co-workers began to worry about the typically punctual couple when they missed business meetings the next day.
Police found the Calverts' silver 2006 Mercedes on Friday at a resort a few miles from the Harbour Town Yacht Basin, but there was nothing in the car to explain the couple's disappearance, Beaufort County Sheriff's Lt. Col. Neil Baxley said.
Lightning caused authorities to call off a search of the marina using divers on Friday. Baxley would not say why they wanted to look in the water and released few details about the search, except to say that the FBI and state police were also involved.
"We're exploring everything and anything," he said. "Everybody's got their eyes open and their ears open."
Authorities say the Calverts' cell phones have been turned off since Tuesday. The small airplane owned by Elizabeth Calvert, a pilot, was found undisturbed on the tarmac at the island's airport. The couple's cat was still on their yacht.
The Calverts have a home in Atlanta and lease and manage the Harbour Town marina, where they live on their 40-foot yacht, the Yellow Jacket. Their company also manages rental units and other businesses on Hilton Head Island, an upscale golf resort island near the South Carolina-Georgia line.
The car was found at a parking lot at the Palmetto Dunes resort. The Calverts don't own or manage property at the resort, said co-worker and friend Tony Gibus.
He and others have been posting fliers with photos of the couple across the 12-mile long barrier island and in Savannah, Ga., about 45 miles away.
Gibus said Friday he knew something was wrong when John Calvert, 47, missed a meeting Tuesday morning to plan promotions and budgeting for the marina's upcoming spring season.
"When I came out at 11:30 that morning, their boat looked undisturbed and we wondered if they'd just slept in," Gibus said. "But he's never missed a meeting and he's never turned off his cell phone. They would never just run off."
Elizabeth Calvert, 45, works as an attorney in nearby Savannah. She failed to report for meetings Tuesday at HunterMaclean, where she specializes in employee benefits and executive compensation, said John Tatum, the firm's managing partner. She previously had been a corporate attorney for UPS in Atlanta.

The longer this disappearance goes on the more likely that this couple could be in danger or worse still they could be dead. But why? There has been no ransom demands or evidence of any kind found. It makes no sense. The police are looking in the water so they have reason to do that. But the motive for any of this, who knows?
Also, I read in one of the articles that a light in their Atlanta home was on and that was unusual. Perhaps the perp(s) went to the house looking for something?
This is a mystery!

That's a lot and just think those are the ones they've discovered. Probably a lot of missing persons have met with foul play also.
I once read on FBI's stats that approx 85% of murders remain unsolved. With newer technology hopefully that number will fall. I hate it that so many aren't solved. A lot of really evil people really do get away with murder. I keep hopeful that justice will be served somewhere.

Clues few in missing couple case
No leads in whereabouts of Hilton Head husband and wife
By DANIEL BROWNSTEIN - dbrownstein@islandpacket.com
A week has passed since John and Elizabeth Calvert were last seen leaving a business meeting near their live-in yacht in Harbour Town.
Since then, the clues to their fate have been few in what has become a frustrating case for detectives.
The prominent couple’s cell phones have been turned off since last Monday. Their yacht is still moored to its slip. On it, their cat was left unattended.
Divers combed the waters off the marina and didn’t find anything of relevance to the case.
The Calverts’ other home in a wealthy Atlanta enclave was searched with the same results. Their plane sits on the tarmac of the Hilton Head Island Airport.
The one missing potential link to their whereabouts was found early Friday when a Beaufort County sheriff’s deputy found their Mercedes parked in an undisclosed commercial area of Palmetto Dunes.
It also contained no evidence of value, but did give detectives a new place to search for witnesses and clues, officers said.
Late Sunday afternoon, Lt. Col. Neil Baxley of the Sheriff’s Office reported no new developments in the disappearance of the island businessman and his wife, a Savannah business attorney.
“We still don’t know where they are,” said Baxley. “We’re still asking questions, and we invite anyone with information to give us a call.”
No new dive or dog team searches are scheduled, he said.
Skipping work and business obligations is out of character for the driven and well-connected couple, according to those who know them.
John Calvert, 47, owns the company that manages the yacht basin and Harbour Town Resorts, which has 125 rental properties.
Elizabeth Calvert, 45, is an attorney at HunterMaclean in Savannah, Georgia’s largest law firm outside of Atlanta. She is a trustee of Converse College in Spartanburg and board member of the Georgia Conservancy, an environmental nonprofit organization.

How heartbreaking this is. I don't know what to think about it. IOf it was a random act of crime, you would think that they would have been found. If it was kidnapping, the family would have been contacted. Doesn't seem to be any money concerns, business concerns, seems like the two of them had a life and lifestyle that others would envy. Both missing, without a trace. Just odd.
Prayers for their safe return.

Something still very wrong with how LE handles these cases of missing adults imo. This needs to change. Ppl dont just vanish from the face of the earth and if they do; family members, spouses, parents need to know they are at the very least, alive.

A car jacking seems HIGHLY unlikely on Hilton Head - especially within Sea Pines. If I recall correctly, you need a car pass to get into the plantation. This area is ULTRA exclusive - as in MULTIPLE Bentleys and Rolls Royce's in the driveways.

found their Mercedes parked in an undisclosed commercial area of Palmetto Dunes...
Since you seem quite knowledgeable about the area, how far is Palmetto Dunes from their HH residence.
I think they could have left their home, been travelling and then the carjacking/robbery took place. The police say PD is a commercial area, which I take to mean stores, restaurants, or businesses? Easy place to dump the car.
I don't really see this couple just taking off, or committing suicide, I'm ruling out accident since the car was found, so it has to be foul play.

I was glad to see that Monday's 3/10 ABC's GMA did a segment on this couple as did Greta on her Monday evening's show.
The police will not release the identity of the person/s that the couple were to meet with last Monday evening, but an employee of the couple that Greta spoke with by phone does know of the individual/s that the couple were to meeting with the night of their disappearance.
From last night's reports it seems that their cell phones and Blackberries are still with the couple even tho there hasn't been any usage of them for a week.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office asked for and received more help from state and federal agencies Monday in what has become a difficult investigation into the disappearance of a prominent couple that split time between Hilton Head Island and an affluent Atlanta neighborhood.
The increase in manpower reflects the expanding focus of the case.
At this point, there seem to be more questions than answers about the fate of John and Elizabeth Calvert.

The fact that they are not releasing their identity speaks volumes to me. Or rather, I should say the fact that they aren't saying, "We know who they were meeting with the night they disappeared, but those people have been ruled out as suspects" speaks volumes. If they had already been cleared, I feel like they would have said so.
What a strange case. I hope they are found alive, but obviously it looks worse with each day that passes.

well, here's where I'm going with this right now at least...could be a random robbery/carjack type deal and then murder, murder for revenge of some kind, or could be murder for money (relative).
they had alot of money, no kids, so that's why I asked who would stand to benefit from their deaths. Whoever it was obviously had to get rid of both of them to benefit.
I know they have looked in the waters around their boat, but haven't found anything yet but they could have bee pushed off the boat and drowned and then somebody took their car.
Since both of their cells were turned off at the same time, seens they probably were told to turn them off. right now though, I'm leaning toward random carjack/robbery/murder.
After what happened to those 2 beautiful college girls, it's certainly possible.

I would not say I am knowledgeable about the area - but I have vacationed in Sea Pines.
If I recall, Palmetto Dunes is right next to Sea Pines Plantation - no more than a 10 minute drive. While it is a less exclusive area than Sea Pines, the thought of a random, violent crime seems so out of the ordinary.
A perp would have to be dressed in madras shorts with a popped color polo in order NOT to stand out.
Very sad story.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say they have searched the home, office and vehicles of a man they think was the last person to see a Hilton Head Island couple who disappeared a week ago.
Beaufort County Sheriff's Lieutenant Neil Baxley says Dennis Ray Gerwing is a person of interest in the disappearance of John and Elizabeth Calvert and is not cooperating with authorities.
Baxley says Gerwing is in business with the couple.
The Calverts live part time on a yacht off Hilton Head Island and also own an Atlanta home. Family members reported them missing last week.
The Calvert's car was located last Friday in a parking lot at the Marriott Hotel on Palmetto Dunes Plantation.
Baxley says Gerwing has an attorney but he would not say who it is. A phone message left at Gerwing's office Tuesday was not immediately returned. There was no answer at his home.

A former business associate of a missing couple who live part-time on Hilton Head Island has apparently committed suicide tonight and left two notes, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
The body of Dennis Gerwing, deemed by the Sheriff’s Office as a “person of interest in the disappearance case,” was found today in the upstairs bathroom of a Sea Pines villa his company manages.
Top law enforcement officers, the coroner and the area’s solicitor converged on the Swallowtail of Sea Pines condo complex after 4 p.m. today. The body was removed around 7 p.m.
Gerwing left behind two notes that are being studied for statement analysis by forensic investigators with the State Law Enforcement Division........

The Sheriff's Office will hold a press conference, its first since the Calverts were reported missing March 4, at 11 a.m. todayThursday. More than three dozen media outlets, both local and national, have signed up to attend.
No major announcements are expected from Tanner, who will preside along with deputy chief of staff Lt. Col. Neil Baxley and Capt. Toby McSwain, who oversees the sheriff's southern operations. Additional press conferences will be held daily, he said.
Edited to add that there seems to be lots of information in this article.

Hilton Head Authorities to Hold Press Conference on Calvert Case
Lowcountry authorities have scheduled a press conference later this morning to brief the public on the case of John and Liz Calvert.
News 3 will be there and bring you the latest information.
While there have been no new clues as to what may have happened to the Calverts, we are learning more about the person of interest in the case who we're told ended his life Tuesday. Dennis Ray Gerwing was a business partner with John Calvert. Gerwing's Boss says he's deeply saddened by the loss of his long-term friend. Officials say Gerwing left two notes behind at the Swallowtail condo but details of those have not been released. Sheriff's Office authorities wouldn't say Wednesday whether Gerwing was the only person of interest in the case.

On Greta's show last night, Fox News did a walk thru of the condo where this guy killed himself...I thought that was fast work!
The condo was basically empty except for basical furniture, etc., as I think he had just rented it for a week.
Anyway, they reported the scene had been very bloody, apparently a gun shot was how he killed himself. But they had the place totally cleaned up, looked like nothing had even happened there. I thought that was very sad.
I'm disappointed that the two notes he left didn't lead LE right to finding this couple.

Gerwing had been staying in the villa for a few days because his house was disheveled after the search, said Tom Gardo, whose company, CNSG Hilton Head, is handling media relations for The Club Group.
Gerwing, 54, of 8 Bent Tree Lane in Hilton Head Plantation, apparently slashed his inner thigh, according to a sheriff's report. An autopsy was conducted Wednesday in Charleston. Officials here are awaiting a report.

Interesting about the house....house on Wilmot Avenue, which is listed at $1.245 million.
Maybe he was pushing to sell because the market has gone down and he was afraid he would lose even more money on it? But then his gf would have to live somewhere else. I wonder if he was the sole owner or both of them owned it together?
Seems like a pretty fancy lifestyle for somebody who was just a CFO for a little company and did some bookkeeping on the side...

Authorities weigh 'worst scenario' for missing couple
Searchers combing the South Carolina low country for a missing Atlanta couple will look in "every possible location" Friday as investigators hint they believe John and Liz Calvert may have been met with foul play.
In Thursday's developments:
• For the first time publicly, authorities acknowledged the couple —still classified as missing— may have fallen victim to foul play.....
• The search has expanded to areas outside Hilton Head Island, Tanner said....
Tanner would not say exactly where searchers are looking. "We are searching every possible location," the sheriff said.,,....
• An autopsy revealed Dennis Ray Gerwing, the last person who saw the Calverts, died about 4 a.m. Tuesday, more than 11 hours before investigators publicly named him a person of interest in the couple's disappearance, Tanner said.
Tanner said Gerwing's death provided both "challenges and answers" about the Calvert case, but refused to say what they were.....
More ground, water and land searches are planned for Friday, Baxley said.,,,,

*Gillis said deputies told him they had searched storage facilities belonging to The Club Group and its associates Wednesday.
*Reporters peppered Tanner with questions about the rumors. Among them:
• Reports that Gerwing made a suspicious drug store purchase the night the couple vanished.
• The Calverts were fighting with someone who looked like Gerwing in the parking lot of the Marriott in Palmetto Dunes, where their Mercedes E320 was found.
"It's all part of the investigation," he said in several responses, neither confirming or denying the stories.

so I think he knew they were going to confront him at this meeting, they argue, maybe go back to his condo to talk it out, but he drugs their "wine" and either kills them or knocks them out, then takes them out to sea. With all of them being so connected to the ocean, seems that would be where he would most likely be comfortable and turn to get rid of their bodies. Just my theory, right now.

That's a very plausible theory, given the fact that he could take over two people. They had to be somehow incapacitated. I don't understand, though, why he couldn't confess in his notes since he was going to take his own life? But the fact that he did take it, speaks volumes IMO.

Searching a landfill -
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is one of five law enforcement agencies searching a landfill today in Jesup, Ga., in connection with the disappearance of John and Elizabeth Calvert of Hilton Head Island, said Capt. Toby McSwain.
McSwain said the search is being conducted after authorities received a tip late Friday night.

Landfill search to continue Monday
http://www.islandpacket.com/189/story/254594.html
Law enforcement officials will return to a Georgia landfill Monday morning to resume a search for John and Elizabeth Calvert that began Saturday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.....
Environmental Landfill near Jesup, Ga. Jesup is about 100 miles southwest of Hilton Head. The landfill covers about 2,500 acres, McSwain said. Trash from more than 20 counties in Georgia, plus a few in Florida and South Carolina — including a portion of Beaufort County — is dumped there.
McSwain said it wasn’t clear how long the search would go on.
“We’ll let the case dictate how long we’re there,” he said. “It’s slow going because it’s such a large area.” The landfill’s general manager, John Simmons of Blackshear, Ga., said law enforcement officers called him before entering the gated landfill. “They said they were looking for the couple,” Simmons said.
Asked if he thought bodies — if dumped at the landfill — could be found, he said: “You might find ’em.” Mike Deal, administrator of Wayne County, Ga., and a former police officer, said the search will be difficult. “It’s going to be hell to find anything,” Deal said. “There’s tons and tons and tons of trash out there, and they cover it with dirt every day.” .............

Very interesting note left.
I'm wondering if experts are studying the two notes left to ensure that they really were written by Dennis.
Perhaps it is possible that someone else killed Dennis and tried to make it appear like suicide and wrote the notes.

On Saturday, investigators started searching a landfill in Wayne County about six miles from Screven. Sheriff's Capt. Toby McSwain of Beaufort County, S.C., said his department's investigation led the search team to the site, but he would not be specific about the nature of the search.
"All I can say right now is the investigation into the disappearance of the Calverts has led us to this location," McSwain said....About 4:15 p.m. Saturday, at least two Beaufort County Sheriff's Office vehicles were seen leaving Screven. One of them appeared to be towing two or three large plastic containers on a trailer. But no officials would comment about the containers or their contents. After Beaufort County deputies were seen leaving the landfill, a Wayne County dispatch operator referred a request to speak with the local coroner to Hilton Head. At sundown Saturday, McSwain said the searchers were stopping and would not resume until Monday morning.....

Suprisingly, it's not unusual for someone that wants to comitt suicide to stab themselves in the chest but than slive themselves in the thigh. Here is a perfect example, when I got my AAS in Forensics, we were shown case photos of a guy who comitted suicide, at first he tried slitting his own throat, but obviously he didn't hit his carotid artery and than while he was bleeding out from the neck, but not dead, he stabbed himself in the chest. At first, most of us thought of it as a homicide, but the angle of the knife while in his chest was unusual, it was coming down at an angle, as opposed to if this man was stabbed by someone else it would be coming straight down and in a slicing motion.(Also, being a righty or a lefty plays in part too).
Basically my point is, yes, it's NOT unusual for someone to try and kill themselves through a knowingly way, like the stabbing of ones chest, fail, and than go for a major artery, such as the artery in the thigh, carotid, et cetera.

“The note read, “This goes deeper than Dennis. Stay on it. There are more people involved.” Yet according to Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner --this note goes no deeper than a few lines scribbled on a piece of paper.
"It was purposely left because Dennis Gerwing was deceased on that day. He didn't want us to lose interest in the case."

Searchers were sifting through tons of garbage at a south Georgia landfill Monday hoping to find an Atlanta couple who disappeared two weeks ago Monday.
Acting on a tip, representatives from several law enforcement and search agencies were looking for John and Liz Calvert at the Broadhurst Environmental Landfill near Jesup, according to Capt. Joe Naia of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The search began Saturday, and as of noon Monday searchers had not found anything of significance, Naia said.
Naia said searchers were going through trash from the Savannah area as it arrived at the landfill. Trash deliveries were "backlogged by about two weeks, which is fortunate in a way because that's about the time they went missing," Naia said.

Oh very strange!
<snipped from link>
Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner said at a press conference Friday authorities don't suspect anything other than suicide. He also said last week the gash on Gerwing's leg was caused by a knife.
But Tanner on Monday refused to say whether a knife was found in the locked bathroom with Gerwing. The initial Sheriff's Office incident report on the death lists the weapon used as "unknown." The Sheriff's Office rejected a
Freedom of Information Act request from The Island Packet seeking autopsy results. They said the report was not yet complete and that the death is still part of an active investigation.
....
Usually LE will report something like "the alleged murder weapon was found with the body, further tests to be made" or something like that.
Even if the victim could've possibly tossed the weapon out the window or stuffed it in a heating vent, shoved it in the toilet tank, etc. you'd think it'd be discovered later that day during a full search of the property.
The only other scenerios would be - he had a good arm and really lobbed it over into nearby woods/water after his final cut but while still lucid.
He asked someone to remove the weapon
He was murdered
(and so remotely possible that it'd only be Hollywood, it was a frozen weapon and it melted)
imo

Very interesting indeed! I wonder if they are saying it's most likely suicide is because the bathroom door was locked?.. Some doors can be locked from outside, or have one of those locks that you turn and shut the door. If no knife or another sharp object was found at the scene and they are only basing their conclusions on the locked door, I would definitely give it wa second thought.

Sheriff insists "person of interest" in missing couple case committed suicide
http://www.islandpacket.com/calverts/
County Sheriff P.J. Tanner is standing behind his office's belief that Dennis Gerwing took his own life in a Sea Pines villa last week, even as some of Gerwing's friends continue to question that explanation for his death........
"Y'all are writing some sort of Nancy Drew murder mystery," Tanner said Wednesday, responding to a story in The Island Packet that cited some Gerwing friends and several national forensics experts who are skeptical that the circumstances of his death add up to suicide. Tanner said he knows of no evidence that points to anything other than that.
He would not say whether a knife was found in the locked bathroom where Gerwing's body was discovered...........
It goes on to say they did finish that landfill search but said Hickory Hill Landfill in Ridgeland(that the Sea Pine trash is taken to also) has not been searched.

Yes, I do find it puzzling that they wouldn't say if they found a knife or another blunt object the scene, but the seem so certain it was a suicide. • The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office released no information Friday. Earlier in the week, Sheriff P.J. Tanner said he hoped a report on the autopsy of Dennis Gerwing would be done by the weekend so he could release details, but the Sheriff's Office said Friday it had nothing new to report.
• A story in Sunday's Island Packet will recount difficulties confronting Harbour Town Yacht Basin following the Calverts' disappearance. Paychecks for employees and some business transactions were delayed, but things are returning to normal.
• Another Sunday story will report the status of ongoing plans to dredge the
Harbour Town Yacht Basin.
The couple was reported missing March 4. They were last seen at a meeting with former business associate Gerwing the evening before. Gerwing was named a person of interest in the case and authorities searched his cars, home and office. He was found dead in a Sea Pines villa on March 11 of an apparent suicide. In notes he left, he admitted stealing money from the couple, but didn't leave clues about the Culverts' disappearance, sources say.
The search for the couple has stretched from the yacht basin to a landfill 100 miles away.

Sunday article snips~
Salaries and other business transactions were on hold at Harbour Town Yacht Basin after the disappearance of John Calvert, the marina's owner, on March 3. But employees and others involved in the business said legal arrangements have been made so that everyone should be paid starting Monday......
White declined to say exactly what legal actions he was taking to make sure his brother-in-law's business keeps operating. But other business owners at the marina said White was able to get power of attorney switched over to the marina staff so the checks can be signed.........
"Except for them missing, everything's running as normal," Carter said.........
"All the employees are hanging in there," White said. "Everyone's been very accommodating for the last three weeks." ...............

New Information (snips)
After going over the preliminary autopsy report, police reports and speaking with many people who knew Dennis Gerwing, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is confident that Gerwing killed himself. "There was no one else involved," said Tanner.,,,,, Gerwing was found in the bathtub and the cause of death, several cuts on his neck, wrist and thigh. "THE WEAPON WAS AT THE CRIME SCENE it was in the tub with Dennis Gerwing," said Tanner. The weapon, a knife taken from inside the condo where Gerwing was staying while his house was being cleaned.
Investigators also found two prescription pill bottles, an empty bottle of wine and two handwritten notes. One written on a bed sheet the other left in the bathroom. "It is his handwriting and we are still doing an analysis on the content of the notes," said Tanner.
Tanner says it could be next week before they tell us what those notes say. ,,,,,,,
Meanwhile, investigators continue to search for John and Elizabeth Calvert who have been missing since March 3........ just this weekend, they searched through the wooded areas in Sea Pines, but were unable to find anything........

press conference with Sheriff Tanner .....
His body was found in the blood-spattered white bathroom after firefighters broke through the locked door.
When asked today if there were other persons of interest in the case, Tanner replied, “Not that we’re releasing.” .......
According to reports of the scene, Gerwing had six lacerations on his body, and a steak knife with a black plastic handle and serrated edge was found beside his right thigh inside the bathtub. The knife matched other steak knives found in the villa’s kitchen, the report said.
Aside from Gerwing’s bare footprints in the blood, there were no fingerprints or other evidence suggesting someone else had been in the room, Tanner said.
“It’s a suicide,” he said. “That’s not going to change.”
Dr. Roger Sorg, a pathologist on Hilton Head Island, said in the report the cause of death was “multiple self-inflicted lacerations with massive hemorrhage.” He reported the following horizontal lacerations on Gerwing’s body:
• a 6-centimeter cut on the back of the left wrist
• a 6-centimeter cut on the front of the left wrist
• an 11-centimeter cut on the right inner-thigh
• a 5-centimeter cut on the right inner-calf
• a 13-centimeter cut on the left lower neck
• a 17-centimeter cut, which was the deepest, on the right lower neck.
A preliminary autopsy report from the Medical University of South Carolina ruled the death a suicide. That report said he had “incised wounds to neck and left forearm with penetrations of right and left jugular veins and transection of left ulnar (forearm) artery.”
“The pathologist’s indication to me was that it was a motivated suicide,” Tanner said. “In my years of experience in law enforcement all suicides are different. This one is definitely different than others that have been worked by law enforcement in South Carolina. I’m sure that you would draw the conclusion that is unbelievable, but the true facts reveal that this was a motivated suicide as we’ve been told. No one else was involved. ... It’s odd how many times he lacerated himself, but he did, and here we are.”
According to a sheriff’s report released today, Gerwing’s lawyer, Dan Saxon, and business associate, Mark King, had to kick in the front door of the villa to get inside. The door had been dead-bolted from the inside.
Inside, there was an empty wine bottle and empty wine glass in the kitchen; otherwise, the room was undisturbed.
In the bedroom, there was writing on the fitted bed sheet in blue ink, with a blue ink pen lying next to the writing. Seven or eight lines were written on the sheet, according to the report. There was another note on a sheet of white paper on the bathroom counter. There was no mention of what the writing said, and Tanner deflected any questions about the contents.
The notes are being analyzed by a criminal profiler for the State Law Enforcement Division. His report should be finished within two weeks, Tanner said.
“We cannot release any information about the notes until he has the opportunity to analyze the two notes,” Tanner said.
There is no question the notes were written by Gerwing, according to a SLED report, although investigators sent in more of Gerwing’s writing just to make sure.
Anonymous law enforcement sources indicated Gerwing admitted to stealing money from the couple, but remained silent on whether he played any role in their disappearance. Previously, those same sources said Gerwing had stab wounds in his chest, which was untrue, according to Tanner and the reports released today.
“Most of this should clear up a lot of the so-called nameless, faceless sources ...,” Tanner said. “These are facts that are being released. This is not fiction.”
After firefighters forced their way into the locked bathroom, Gerwing was found naked in the bathtub. Blood splatter was all over the room.
The report said it appeared Gerwing had taken drugs, but it was not said what kind. There was a seven-day pill container on the vanity counter with Monday’s pills missing. The other days of the week’s containers had four or five pills each inside.
An empty plastic pill bottle cap was found on the coffee table in the living room, the report said.
Tanner said a full autopsy report, which will include toxicology results, will be finished within about two weeks.
There was little new information about the search for the Calverts.
Tanner said the case is still being investigated as if they are missing, although he conceded that any hope they’ll be found alive is dwindling. .......

My goodness!
This is a strange case. How could someone follow through with killing themself that way? And leaving a note on a bed sheet?! Strange. This man was clearly troubled by something.
I hope the Calvert's are found soon. :rose:

I'd like to know when is the last time he spoke with his (ex) girlfriend, the one who lived in/owned their house with him. I thought I read he/they were selling it (reportedly worth $1 million). Isn't that why he was at the condo, because the house was being cleaned.
Maybe he was planning to sell his house to skip town?

Interesting that the bedsheet note was illegible, yet no report of blood on the floor, bloody sheets, etc. Yet the legible note was found in the bathroom where the actual "suicide" took place. Unless he wrote the bathroom note ahead of time and wrote the bedsheet note after he had taken pills and wine but before he actually stabbed himself, so his writing was impaired.

"We are far from exhausting all the potential motives," he said. ....
When asked if there were more persons of interest in the case, he replied, "Not that we're identifying."............
The FBI continues to look at the finances of the Calverts, Gerwing and The Club Group, Gerwing's former employer, which also is in the middle of its own audit.
One of the suicide notes Gerwing left was written in blue ink on a bed sheet and was described as illegible, or nearly so.....

Very interesting starling
From the second article;
"The FTI audit, which says Gerwing is the only one responsible for the missing cash, is not being accepted at face value, Tanner said.
“That’s their opinion and that’s what they put in their press release,” the sheriff said. “I can’t support anything they put in there. It could be self-serving on their part or it could be what we find in the end. We’re too far from this investigation being over to make that determination.”
A local FBI field agent is sending information to one of the bureau’s forensic accounting teams, which is conducting an independent investigation into financial aspects of the case, Tanner said."
And;
"The company is working with Gerwing’s brother Fred, a Louisville, Ky. resident, to liquidate some of Dennis’ estate to repay the money, Gardo said. Gardo didn’t know how much the estate would produce, but said Gerwing had “substantial assets that can go into this.”
Gerwing’s assets include a $1.2 million home in Columbia; a $430,000 home in Hilton Head Plantation, and a powerboat. The Club Group declined to release his salary. Cory Fleming, an attorney representing Gerwing’s estate, could not be reached for comment. "
How very convenient for "The Club Group" and Mr. King.
the Calvert’s find out there is a crime…. they go “missing“.
Dennis Gerwing is named a person of interest.. he commits “suicide”
.
It is discovered that 2.1 million is missing from a number of accounts.. but Dennis Gerwing’s estate is going to be liquidated and it is expected to repay most if not all of the money.
And Mr. King and company; well they are sitting back drinking from tall glasses with little umbrellas in them.

re: King
It is rather odd that he would not know what his partner is up to...wire tranfers, checks, etc.
re:Gerwing
Wouldn't the type of man that would give an ex girlfriend a house(out of no obligation) probably tell where he hid the Calverts bodies? So why leave a note telling about the money & not the murders? He has been discribed as generous ,wouldn't hurt a fly, really gentle soul who cooked for friends.
Such a strange case. JMO

Mark King, president of The Club Group, said he met last week with the clients who lost money and promised to repay them using money from his own assets as well as Gerwing's estate and insurance settlements.
"I am still in shock over the betrayal of trust and the death of my partner of 21 years. I have no idea what might have prompted Dennis to engage in this behavior, but as chief executive, I want to apologize on behalf of our company to all who were adversely affected," King said in a statement.
Gerwing stole from eight of The Club Group's 10 Hilton Head clients by using wire transfers, checks and other transactions that mixed investments with his personal funds, King said.

In the four months since John and Elizabeth Calvert vanished, their fate has remained as much a mystery as it was the day they disappeared.
Detectives still don't know whether the Hilton Head Island couple is alive or dead, where they might be if -- miraculously -- they are alive, and what exactly led to their disappearance March 3 after a business meeting with Dennis Gerwing, the only "person of interest" in the case.

I read several different articles about the PC. IslandPacket is going to have the video online of it later.
New:
Dennis Gerwig bought 3 large drop clothes & latex gloves on the day the Calverts disappeared. The items have never been found.
The crime lab is still analyzing a pile of dirt they found in Dennis' condo.
Dennis disliked Elizabeth.
Dennis is the prime suspect, they believe he acted alone but if someone is withholding info they could be considered a co-conspirator or co-defendant.
If Dennis was still alive they would not have enough to arrest him yet.
