KittyMom it all depends on the perp.
Rape is never about sex, it is about control, anger, and sometimes a desire to humiliate. The act itself can change from victim to victim depending on circumstances, and needs.
A few pages ago, before we knew there was a connection, I said I felt these crimes were escalating. Today in news reports the Reno police have said they now believe the same thing.
What may have sufficed for the second attack in Dec. may now not fill the preps needs. Now he may feel a need to totally posses his victim which may be why he abducted Brianna. Or it may be because for the first time someone saw his face clearly
RR I agree with you, everything that the police can get the second victim to identify should be shown on TV and pictures should be printed in the print news. I did not post this before because it is gross, but I think the reason she may know about his chin and beard but not his face is because he may have bent over to whisper instructions or obscenities.

Three of the missing people on my MySpace page are also named Brianna.
Brianna Maitland: Missing 3/19/04.. Montgomery, Vermont.
Brianna Johnson: Missing 11/17/06.. Saint Louis, Missouri.
Brianna McCullough: Missing 12/29/07.. Hurst, Texas.
The funny thing is, I had never heard the first name Brianna before Brianna Maitland.. and now.. Terribly.. there are so many by that name.

For some reason, the Dec. 16 victim didn't see his face. Maybe there's hope that Brianna didn't either, but I fear she's gone anyway. :(

All good points, but I wonder if any of these details are known. They published very intimate details about him, so I think they would have released such details as the car, tattoos etc. Even the age is very broad, 28-40 years old, I doubt the 2nd victim saw much, sadly.

She hasn't come forward? I would think that those two items in the car would ring a bell, with someone.
He could have parked around a corner and walked her the other way and she ran into her home, never trying to catch a color.
Over 48 hrs. and no ID yet. I bet it does take awhile. Not everyone reads like we do, listens to the news, discusses with friends. Some people are quite oblivious to this "stuff."
If my baby was missing a shoe, I would have looked for it.

I think it might be the age group (around 30) the perp is in. If he does have a wife/girlfriend and they have a baby, she might not be paying that much attention to the news. He might not have friends who do either. I know a lot of people that age are busy with other things.
ITA. So the friend of a friend of a friend needs to start talking about Bri and get the ball rolling straight to his door.
If NOT caught, he WILL do this again as it becomes a game of, ""Ya can't catch meeee."

I agree. With this detailed description, once someone who knows him pays attention to the news he'll be identified. He's got to work somewhere and know someone! I'm afraid too that he'll strike again if he isn't caught. It seems to be a pattern of about a month inbetween ~ Nov. 13 ---> Dec. 16 ---> Jan. 19/20.

I can't picture this guy. Maybe it's me. You have to read too much and think too hard to try to get a mental image, where a sketch artist working with the victim could come up with something we could understand. [/*]

Brianna Denison’s family has not authorized a $100,000 reward for information leading to her safe return as previously reported.
The family said the information was reported by the media since Denison disappeared Jan. 20 but had not been authorized.
Secret Witness, though, is offering a $2,500 reward for anonymous tips leading to an arrest or prosecution in the case.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Reno police hotline at 745-3521, detectives at 334-2115 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.

A truck of an SUV, 5'6" - 6' tall, a quarter inch beard, no idea about mustache, brown hair of undescribed hairstyle, medium build, medium musculature, a baby shoe and papers in the car truck or SUV. Shaved pubic area.
Some kind of elasticized pants with no color or clear styling, just not zippered. Red shirt, blue undershirt.
Thin face, squared off jaw.

I can't visualise the perp. either. I think the problem with a sketch artist is that the victim is overseas.

What is interesting to note in this report is the idea for men to shave their privets started in the porn industry. As we know one of the precursors to violent sexual deviants is a obsession with porn.

I know nothing about jock itch but I've seen a lot of young guys who dress in this way. I'm wondering if it was kind of "urban, hip-hop" attire or more sporty. I'm thinking he's on the younger side of that 28-40 range and maybe even younger than 28. The goatee, the clothing, the "shaved" factor all point to a younger man, imo.

The shaved pubic area would certainly be something I would question if my SO was... [/*]
The shaved pubic hair isn't a big deal, or a warning sign. Many men and women my age 20-30 do it because it is sexier, cleaner, and for men it makes them appear 'bigger'. It's very very common....

I don't want to leave you with the impression that I was commenting on all men who chose to shave. As I previously noted, I have seen surveys passed around on MySpace on the subject.
I am just referring to this particular person and why he did what he did. I still think the most logical reason is to avoid detection. But last night on TV some experts noted that it was strange that he would do that in order to avoid detection but leave his DNA at two crime scenes.
Enough on this subject. You are right a interesting way to start off the day:o

Perhaps the guy is totally shaved? Legs, arms, etc. Could he be a swimmer?
I hope LE is watching Craigslist. I see all kind of wierdos on there advertising to meet other wierdos.

No problem! I know different generations think differently about things, that's for sure! When i was like 12 or 13 my best friend was gang-sexually assaulted involving oral sex. When we told my mom she was blown away. She didn't think people actually did that lol. *shrugg* Anyway, the situation wasn't funny, just at how parents and kids live in different worlds!

Not meaning to offend anyone, etc.. My opinion only!

am thinking she could very easly be in a house somewhere also, , i feel the man lives close to this area, and if he is married perhaps he has recently rented an apartment or house where he won't be disturbed or his wife is no longer with him and he has her in his home. Yes some houses in Reno have basements but they are more common in the older houses. Near the university the houses are typically older but I am not sure how old the house on Mackay Court is. I will look into that today and get back to you. I used to live on Imperial Way which is a few blocks away and the house I lived in was built in the early 40's however there was no basement.

I agree. I think either his face was at least partly covered (like batman mask or something to that effect) or the victim's face was covered to some degree. That's the only reason I can think of she would know hair color, but no other identifying facial features. Brianna didn't actually live there, she was just visiting. As far as an exact address of previous victim, I don't remember seeing one but last night on NG, they showed a map of all three assaults, and one (I think the December one) looked like it was just down the street or around the corner. am curious as to why the search dogs couldn't find her scent, in the case of Laci Peterson wasn't she placed in the truck but, search dogs followed her scent to the marina miles away, even if she was carried why is there no scent? maybe she is closer then the think, what is next door? I know the police have tactics to help you remember things that you never thought you would remember.
Several years ago I was a teller at * of A and I was robbed at gun point. I was so upset I couldt remember anything. When the FBI guy sat me down he had me remember backwards in black and white first and then add color. It was weird how much I remembered thinking of it this way. It very well may be the same for this victim.

"Staff report
Brianna Denison's family has not authorized a $100,000 reward for information leading to her safe return as previously reported.
The family said the information was reported by the media since Denison disappeared Jan. 20 but had not been authorized.
Secret Witness, though, is offering a $2,500 reward for anonymous tips leading to an arrest and prosecution.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Reno police hot line at 745-3521, detectives at 334-2115 or Secret Witness at 322-4900. "

I am confused, was it offered but release of that information was unauthorized, or the family was not offering at all? How did the media get this info then?

I interpreted it to mean that it was never offered to begin with. I also wonder where the media would have gotten this info if not factual since it (the reward) has been widely reported. I also wonder if perhaps the family has word that a credible tip has come forward and the family is worried about having to come forth with money.

Good point. Another possibility is that too many false tips or info is being submitted, just to get the reward.

The reward thing is baffling. The last thing ya wanna do right now is calm the search waters by putting out there the money might not even be available.

Oh, I agree!!! But if non-credible tips are keeping LE running around in circles which in turn keeps them from investigating credible tips in a timely manner, it's not good for the investigation. Some people will say anything and hope it rings true for the chance at $100,000.00.

MXMA30~~~~~~ Exactly.
Although there's not a sketch available of the perp........the detailed description of the vehicle........especially the baby shoe and the pieces of paper.......should ring a bell with the perp's wife/GF.
Not to mention the "shaved area."

A portion of a new interview on the rgj.com. Link is below. The article was interesting.
Reno police are asking the public to be aware of anyone who may have changed his personality, appearance or may have suddenly moved or sold a truck, following the announcement of a revised suspect vehicle description in the Brianna Denison abduction.
"We just want to stress to people any changes in behavior," said Lt. Robert McDonald.
For example, he said, the suspect may have shaved facial hair, changed behavior, moved suddenly or sold the vehicle.
"It's not unlikely
this suspect moved and is targeting a new area or city," McDonald said. "If you have seen someone matching this suspect description prior to the public release of those details call our tip line."
Police also are looking at past police reports made about window peekers, prowlers, suspicious people, crimes associated with sex and men who solicit prostitutes. McDonald said tips are prioritized and checked by detectives. Some people have called to report criminal incidents for the first time, he said.

The following information does not deal with Brianna's disappearance but that of the rape and murder of 6 year old Coralrose Fullwood.
But I feel the questions asked by the North Port, Florida police apply equally in this case. Just substitute Brianna Denison missing, for Coralrose Fullwood murder victim
1. Are you aware of anyone who has stopped coming into the neighborhood/area since the time Coralrose Fullwood''s body was found?
2. Is there anyone that you have suspicions about who lived, worked or visited in the neighborhood?
3. Are you aware of anyone who has moved or left the area suddenly since Coralrose's body was found?
4. Are you aware of anyone whose behavior seems to have changed since Coralrose's body was found? For example:
a. Increased consumption of alcohol and/or drugs.
*. Developed an intense interest and curiosity in the investigation.
c. Become more withdrawn, paranoid and/or guarded.
d. Missed work.
e. Became more irritable or aggressive.
5. Do you know of anyone who has indicated any type of interest in the investigation?
6. Are you aware of anyone who has changed his appearance since the discovery of Coralrose's body?

Wow Maelstrom5, this is great list! Sometimes people don't think of these things when considering a suspect.
I was thinking, maybe people aren't coming forward with information because a lot of people weren't around during BD's and the December attacks since UN was on winter break. According to the college's Web site, winter break was from Dec. 20 to January 20. Kids living in dorms and even probably a lot of those living in off-campus apartments probbaly took off to go home to their families after their finals the week of Dec. 16 and started rolling back in the day BD disappeared. I'd love to know the make-up of the residential area around UN, whether it's mostly college renters, or a lot of the general public.

I think..at this point if Brianna is alive, she is being kept as a pet, and that would mean this guy has some help....most likely from a female. I don't think he would keep brianna around without help because she would become a burden to him and would be hard to hide for long from his family, or the general public.

Hi,
The information about UN-Reno's winter brake is interesting. I really wonder just how much the students knew about this threat.
It will not be the first time that a University failed to act. In the murder case of Laura Dickinson 22, her school not only failed to act, they covered up the fact she had been murdered in her dorm room. Eastern Michigan University let its students think Laura’s death was accidental , for two months, while the man accused of killing her was walking around the campus.
In Dec. 2007 EMU wound up paying Laura's parents 2.5 million and the schools president was fired in the wake of the cover-up of information about the slaying.
Not all schools think of their reputation first and the students safety second. At Rice university in Houston, Texas and at the University of Connecticut, in Storrs when students went missing they quickly jumped into action. Andrew Arpin, a UConn student, was quickly located thanks to University news reports. Matthew Wilson at Rice is unfortunately still missing, but not for lack of effort on the University's part.

I think she is alive because there isn't a good reason for taking her body. Its obivious he doesn't care nor is he careful with DNA and finger prints so he doesn't have a record. The longer it goes with out a body the better her chances are of still being found alive. She is so tiny he could keep her locked up in a walk in closet. He can't move her if his only vehicle is a truck, nowhere to put her to hide her from the public. I think he is caught in that he can't kill her and he can't turn her loose..to many people looking for her right now.

There are cases where a person has been abducted and is brainwashed, threatened and cohersed so much, that they can't run, even when given the opportunity.

OK, so let's assume that she is alive.
I've thought about the fact that he probably can't release her now with so many people on the look-out for her.....Also, by now, she could have possibly seen his face. Could there be an "anonymous" way (or at least he could THINK it was anonymous) for him to release her somewhere??

We have pretty unpredictable weather. We were expecting quite a bit of snow this week but nothing really came of it in Reno. It tried to snow a few times but thankfully it never really started sticking to the ground. Today was the first there the roads were almost completely clear driving to work. However we are told to expect snow today and Saturday.... we will see if it happens.
There was snow storm/ whiteout in Washoe Valley on the way to Carson (which is about 20-30 miles from Reno). I had read searches were going to go along the highways along 395 from Reno to Carson (through Washoe Valley) so those searches could have been affected by snow.
I sent an email asking if there were searches this weekend because I would gladly grab a few friends to help out. If anyone on these boards has any info on that please post.
Thank you very much.

Well it's obivous this guy is an ameteur. He released the second girl without killing her and might of originally had the same intentions with brianna. I think all the media hype screwed up his plan. I don't think he was expecting such a huge deal to come of it. I don't think he's capable of killing, because if he was, i think he would have just killed the previous victim. So hopefully he's hiding brianna out somewhere and the police will find her before he finds a little more courage to step up his game. :/
Does anyone know how long/how many days the previous victim was held for? Was she 'stashed' somewhere for a few days? Or kidnapped, raped, and let go the same day?

Hmm, i'm pretty sure that she was just kept for a few hours. And then he dropped her off somewhere. Which is just kind of odd to me. :/ Usually that happens with someone you KNOW, but if it's done by a complete stranger, the intent is usually to kill.

Yes very true, when its someone least expected, you want to not believe it....It would be hard. As per Brian's Predictions http://www.briansdreams.com/MISSING/publicr/603.htm the guy seems 'young' to me, meaning under 30....I wonder if he could be a T.A, grad studen, or Junior prof at the university....although then he'd have access to a lot of women, but he could have stalked them there...im not sure though, were the other victims from the university?

It seems like the perp particularly targeted the area, not the victims. The places of attack are all about .3 mile away from each other - the roads they took place on are laid out almost in a perfect square. It's interesting, though, because he had to have stalked the area at least for a little while to see that there were a lot of female students there. When I was in college, most of the off-campus housing was occupied by male students or fraternity brothers.

Perhaps he lives right in the middle of all the attacks. Close to home, and branches out from his safe spot. I lived in off-campus housing, with a bunch of girls, but yes, most of the off-campus housing was males.

They already connected him to the other rape through DNA. If he was at the party, he had to be quite young to fit in with the crowd. That means he might be indeed a student/grad student there.

That troubles me too, omsk99. He was taking a mighty chance that just rustling the knob around would wake Brianna or someone else in the house if it were in fact locked. Also, how did he know the two men who normally live at Mackay Court weren't there that particular night?
It also interests me that there must have been so many young women out and about in the general Reno area that night after the SWAT concert - why didn't he target someone on the street as he had before? It's strange that he took it so far as to go into a house and not wait for the bait to walk by on the street.
The whole targeting the college area thing also has me now wondering if the perp has animosity not only towards women, but towards the educated. Maybe he didn't get to go to college because of money, other circumstances, and is acting out on it.

But I think it would be dangerous on his part, with three girls and possibly make roommates being there, assuming he didn't know who lived there and how many people. Unless he did know them, knew the guys were out of town and the girls were drinking and partying so probably wouldn't even hear if he forced the entry.

I just posted the same thought about the male roommates, newshound81. Maybe he somehow overheard girls talking, either on the street or at party if he was there, and they mentioned it (maybe discussing sleeping arrangements), and followed them seeing they were intoxicated. LE thinks he lives (lived) nearby, so I wonder if he has anything to do with the university. I hope LE are looking at all the young professors, TAs, grad students at the UNR.
I feel as though he lives alone....it seems odd that he's out as late as he is. I would think if he 'sneaks'out of the bed from his wife/gf that she'd notice at some point.

I just watched a video on KOLO about the volunteer search and had a horrible thought: what if the perp has joined in those efforts to make him look less suspicious? There have been cases like that, but I can't remember the names involved in the one that's floating around in my head. I think it had to do with a missing little girl. I'm not trying to turn everyone into a suspect, but it's plausible if this person got brazen enough to escalate in a month's time to the point of taking a girl from a home, he's brazen enough to put himself out in public to make himself seem concerned and normal.

I know it's not real, but on Criminal Minds, there was a case where this guy kidnapped girls in the woods and he was the one serving food at the search (stew which ultimately contained flesh from his victims). Gag

Maybe he has some job with weird hours, so it doesn't look suspicious. But if he is keeping Brianna alive, he either lives alone or has another secret place that his wife/GF doesn't know about.

Also, to add though, they 'had' to participate so the shadow of doubt wouldn't be cast on them. The missing girl Stacy Peterson, her husband Drew, hasn't set foot outside looking for her, talk about suspicious.

It had to be a totally random thing where he tried the door and it was open. if he knew anything about the house set-up, he would have known that the couch brianna was sleeping on had a connecting wall to K.T's room. Would have been too risky.

Most people probably think that!! Las Vegas is mostly desert but Reno is close to Lake Tahoe which is in the mountains. So we definitely get snow but usually just in certain parts of town with higher elevations. On the valley floor we do not get a lot of snow.

Hey, just saw this, don't know if anyone else did..
Reno police now believe four incidents targeting young women near UNR are connected.
On November 13, a man tried to kidnap a woman walking near the school early in the morning. 33 days later, on December 16, he kidnapped and raped another student before taking her back to her home. 34 days later, on January 19, the same man is believed to have broken into the home of his victim, but she had left the area. The very next day, police say the same man broke into the home where 19-year-old Brianna Denison was sleeping and kidnapped her.

That could definitely be. I think he put her in that chokehold that he used on his other victims so she passed out right there on the couch. Then I think he carried her out...maybe to his truck, like he did his other victim. I'm just not sure why he's holding her for so long, if in fact, he is.
I wish LE could put up a billboard or something, with all the perp's info on it (the details we have so far)....I'm worried that if he has a wife or gf, she isn't aware of all that's going on. Maybe she heard about the "missing girl" but didn't pay much attention to the description of the perp. I know the billboard is a far-fetched idea - I just think about Edwin Hall and the fact that if his neighbors hadn't been paying attention to the news, who knows when he may have gotten caught? JMO

But if the bear was very big, and he put a lot of pressure, it would have covered her entire face. It's possible she fainted.
Because that choke-hold had worked on the 2nd victim, I do agree that that is probably what he did. Something he did produced the blood, though. Such force she got a nose-bleed?
Could his DNA have been lifted from the leather couch?

Per this article, LE think she was suffocated with a pillow and restrained with it:
Authorities Continue Search for Missing Student
"Authorities are looking into possible connections between the disappearance of Santa Barbara City College student Brianna Denison from a Reno home and other crimes committed in that area. They are still looking for a white man in his mid-30s believed to have information about her disappearance. Also, blood found on Denison's pillow may indicate that she was restrained or suffocated with the pillow, police said. Anyone with information should call (775) 745-3521."

Some interesting details I haven't seen yet regarding previous attack victim:
A source close to the investigation tells AMW that the assailant told the victim, a foreign student from Taiwan, that, "If you tell the police, I will kill you." Authorities say the 22-year-old was abducted outside her home on Dec. 16 when an unknown assailant grabbed her after she parked her car on the 1400 block of Terrace Drive.
According to police, the assailant grabbed the female from behind, forced her to the ground and attempted to choke her with her right arm. He then placed his right hand over her nose and mouth which caused her to pass out. When she began to regain consciousness, the suspect forced her into the front passenger seat. The suspect drove to a location 3 to 4 minutes away where he forced her to perform sexual acts. After the attack, he drove her back to her residence where he dumped her off and threatened "he might be back."

I just called the search line set up for Brianna to get information about seaches this weekend. I asked about searching Sunday and was told yes they are planning searches on both days this weekend unless "something happens". I asked if it that was based on how the weather will be and she said "no, if something breaks loose tomorrow we will cancel the searches for Sunday".
Is this a normal thing to say? It sounded off to me but then again I have never done this....

Thanks so much for this link, it has so many new details we haven't heard before. One of the things that caught my eye:
"Cops say that the glass-paned front door of the residence was unlocked and other residents say that the door -- just a foot away from where Brianna was sleeping -- may have been left slightly open. "
That might explain why he picked that house in particular, because he saw that the door was ajar. Maybe that's when he saw Brianna, that would explain why he came in.
