Family and friends of a missing college student from Gwinnett County met on Saturday morning to conduct their biggest and most organized search yet.

They have been looking for Justin Gaines, 18, a freshman at the Athens campus of Gainesville College, since he disappeared from Wild Bill's nightclub last week.

"Today's an important day," said Erika Wilson, Justin's mother. "I feel good. We're gonna go out there and stay focussed. We need to bring him back home to this family."

Justin's mother and stepfather have worked tirelessly to try to find him. They said they're encouraged by the fact that Gwinnett County police have developed some leads.

"I know they've been doing busy doing interviews and going to a few houses," said Steven Wilson, Justin's stepfather. "We don't have any specifics, but we know they're working on it."

For Saturday's search, organizers focussed on a four-mile radius around the cell tower that picked up Justin's last phone call to one of his friends last Thursday night.

"If there's anything suspicious, we're gonna mark it for the police and hopefully get Justin home," said Kelli McGill, Justin's aunt.

"We need him back, we need him back," said Justin's mother. "We all miss him very much."
Family and friends remain confident they will find Justin safe somewhere.

They're offering a reward to anyone who comes forward with information about Justin's whereabouts.

The reward stands at $2000 now.

Here's the latest update I found:
GWINNETT CO., Ga -- Friends and family spent the day Saturday searching for 18-year-old Justin Gaines. The teen was last seen on November 1 at Wild Bill's nightclub in Gwinnett County.

Searchers fanned out on both sides of Interstate 85 near the nightclub, but reported little progress in the search for Gaines. Family members have started a reward fund for information which might help in locating him. So far, the reward stands at $2,000. To add to that fund or for more information, call 770 822 4556

Friends of the victim stated that he has false identification in the name of Brad Allen and Brad Shewe. Justin is described as being 5"11' and 210 lbs with a muscular build. He has blue eyes and brown hair with a short buzz cut. Both of his ears are pierced with diamond studs. He was last seen wearing a long sleeve, gray shirt with "Abercrombie" written on the front, blue jeans with holes and flip flops.

Investigators have started attempts to track Justin's cell phone and obtain any relevant video from the area that he was last seen. Anyone who has information on Justin's whereabouts or if anyone has seen Justin is strongly encouraged to call the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5300.

The family has contacted a local PI and he took the case also they talked to Texas EquuSearch and they are on there way here from Texas. Texas EquuSearch works for donations they do this work from the kindness of there hearts. The family is asking for donations for the Texas EquuSearch people who are coming here. They need food, water, and money just in case they have to hire someone else to help them. There are still no leads in the case. I think the first place to start is Wild Bill's. Go in during business hours and see if anyone remembers seeing Justin leaving. Was he alone or with someone? Did he seem okay or was he staggering? Did he have words/problems with anyone while there?

I think TES actually just arrived yesterday. My understanding is that they will be meeting w/ the family today.

I know they were trying to get hotels donated and working on food donations for the search, but had not had a lot of luck. I will find out more later and let everyone know.

I hope the jail has been checked. Do ya'll remember this past year a young girl went missing and her mother was trying to find her. She was sitting in the Fulton Co Jail the entire time. I can't remember the name but I remember the embarrassment of LE looking for a missing person who was sitting in their own jail.

Reports also say he was seen in the parking lot of Barnacles with these same 2 men.

These are all the news reports I could find. I believe that Justin's mom was on Greta's show on Fox but I couldn't find the transcript or video.

I know that TES is also conducting a search today for Ben Standford, missing from Lincoln, AL and I'm waiting for my early news to mention any word on that.

Yes, I saw the segment tonight and since Tim and TES had the tragic success of finding Ben's body today in Villa Rica, then his group starts tomorrow in looking for Justin.

Justin's drinking was brought up, and it was mentioned he was a heavy drinker on the weekends. I don't know if that questioning was trying to suppose that he may have passed out somewhere or just what they were alluding to.

There have been so many stories on various news links/blogs from people that know him that I've only scanned most of the posts.

But Steve Huff posted he was a regular for "years" at Wild Bill's and on the ScanGwinnett site a poster said something about first thinking it was a joke for Justin to be missing as that's "something he would do".

It does make me wonder if his partying buddies know if he was prone to black outs from partying too hard.

Somebody needs to step up to say what they know.

I haven't had much of a chance to watch any news but when i do watch it I never hear about Justin or Ben. I think they need to get these kids on the air as much as possible. I certainly hope Justin is alive and well. Just like Ben, a promising young fellow with a long life ahead of him. So sad, and my heart and prayers go out to his family. :rose:

There have been a lot of questions regarding the status of this case. As of late, this is still a missing persons case. There is still no evidence to support or deny foul play. The investigation has slowed over the past week due to lack of cooperation from some of Justin Gaines’ close friends and associates. This is a concern for the detectives working this case. The detectives want to strongly encourage those individuals to come forward and cooperate in this investigation which could possibly develop more leads into Justin’s whereabouts. Anyone with information can call the Criminal Investigations Section at 770-513-5300.

I don't think we quote posts from other forums, so I will paraphrase what I read on a local forum. Someone who knows or friends with Justin said that he talked to someone and went outside because he wanted to go and the rest of them wanted to stay. They were told that Justin walked to a sports bar down this street.

That would contradict what the WB's website says, though :shrug:

Hi Kitty, I actually live in the area...even had my Bachelorette party at Wild Bills, and I'm not sure that "upscale" is the most fitting description of either of these places. They aren't bad but I think of a swanky midtown club when I hear "upscale."

For contextual reference, Wild Bills is located about 45 minutes away from where Justin went school, Athens. Athens is well known here because it's the home of the University of Georgia which ranks near the top of the list of "party" schools each year. A lot of the kids who are home (in and around Atlanta) from Athens will frequent that bar while they are home.

Wild Bills is unique in that it is located near Gwinnett Place Mall, and outside of restaurants, there aren't really that many "bars" in the area. It's also huge. I think it was a Circuit City or another big box tenant before they converted it into Wild Bills. So, if you picture your local mall scene with the restaurants and department stores and then plop a huge bar in the middle, that's what it looks like. It's not a shady place at all.

The bar itself has a huge dancefloor (they have some pretty well know bands play there) and bars/shot girls everywhere you turn. It's not a pretty scene, but it's not unusual either. Definitely not where I'd want my 18 year old son to hang out though...

On a personal note, Justin went to highschool and college where my husband did, and seems like many of the young men that you might meet around here. A nice guy who might have been caught up in the scene around him. I'm praying for his family and that he'll come home to them safe.

lol...here in south GA "upscale" means a place that serves beer in a glass, has the bathrooms inside the main building, and makes it through an evening without a shooting or stabbing. I read the reviews on these clubs and the services offered. I guess its all a matter of perspective.

I've not been to GPM in a few months but I know the area is rather congested. I was under the impression that Barnacles was more of a oyster bar/restaurant. After reseaching I'm thinking it is also a dance club/bar much like WB's.

Do you know if there are any bus stops along Market st?

He could have walked through the Barnacles parking lot and across a few others to get to the main stop. That bus service (Gwinnett Count Transit) has several routes through the county and also provides service to downtown Atlanta and MARTA, our light rail system.

However, the earliest bus wouldn't have left until 5:28am from that station on a Friday morning, so he would have had to have waited several hours to catch a bus.

I suppose it's possible he took a taxi, but they aren't all that common in the area...especially on a Thursay night/Friday morning.

I know that area really well - I actually worked in one of the restaurants near there at one point (10 + years ago), and I've got to think that if he were still there, it would be easy to find him. It's just business after business, parking lot after parking lot, and roads...lots of roads. There really isn't any forrest or other area where he could still feasibly be unless he walked for several miles. Based on the area alone, I would be willing to bet that he left the area in a vehicle of some type.

I heard from someone who knows the area that the bar Justin was last seen at, is in a very rough area. I believe there are Hispanic hangouts all around and most of them are gang hangouts as well.

That is very scary especially since we have all heard how horrible gang initiations can be for unsuspecting individuals. I hope Justin did not get picked up by a gang.

I think I've read somewher that his mom lived in Lawrenceville/Snellville area. If that's true, then he was 15 to 20 minutes by car away from home. Too far to even consider walking.

I look at the "Missing" wall at Walmart each time that I go in. There are lots of missing people. And you are correct, most don't make the news. But, the few stories that do are usually a pretty, young, white girl. Rarely do I see coverage of males. And even sadder is that Walmart has to rotate those missing posters so that all those reported missing get equal time.

Personally, I think there needs to be a little inset screen in the corner of every channel that flashes photos and info on all missing individuals 24/7. The television/cable mongruls could do a huge humanitarian action with something like that.

WSB-TV Channel 2 has learned that a private investigator hired by the Gaines' family discovered the shot of Gaines after going through hours of the club's surveillance tapes.

I saw the video by just going to youtube and doing a search for justin gaines.

The photos were precious and he has such a beautiful smile. He's a great looking kid and seems to have plenty of friends and good times. I know his family must be so worried and I just pray that they can be strong.

He did call several friends. One did not have his car and several others did not answer, it was so late they were already a sleep.

Maybe they didn't give off a hint that they were a danger when they offered him a ride. Physically fit men are abducted, raped and murdered so size is not a factor even though we would like to think it is imo. I think this is very likely what happened to Justin. He hitched a ride with someone he thought he could trust and it was late and he had no way home. It may have even been more than one person in the vehicle making him feel even safer.

Many young men and many of them very attractive like Justin have been subjected to gross horrors by the predator that searches the streets for them late at night when they are their most vulnerable.

IMO someone knows what happened to Justin.

Through the many years of reading about predators I have found them the ones who are intimidating. They do not think as we do they pick their target by what lust they feel for the person they may see and want. The victim no matter how big is an innocent target and has no clue what lurks in the mind of the predator.

However predators are keenly manipulative and cunning. Some of them are very charismatic and have the ability to "appear" docile and charming. For they know that they have an ability to lull the victim into feeling they aren't a threat.

We have just seen such tragic things happen to people who leave establishments late at night alone. It is no longer safe for females or males to leave without someone else leaving with them.

11:38 p.m - Justin entered WBs at exactly 11:38 p.m (known from survailance vid)

1.20 a.m - "I remember seeing Justin, that night. He was either drunk as hell or on some drugs... I was talking to him for a bite, he was all sweating and walking all stubbly. He was on the phone for a good while trying to call people. Last time I seen him was around 1:20am" - Forum post

2.00 a.m- "Me and my friends recall seeing
him.I left the club around 2:00am.And justin was laying across a bench.It looked like he was texting someone." - Forum post

2.00 a.m - His LAST cell phone call was at 2 a.m his friend answered and said no he can't pick him up.

2.05 a.m approx - The last transmission signal from his cell phone was at 2 :05 a.m (from other forum
poster) (cells transmit every 15 mins)

2.30 a.m - He didn't EXIT WBs till 2:30 a.m (according to security guard on news clip) WBs closes at
2.45 am on thurs. He might have been out at 2am and waited outside.

They have hired a private investigator, opened a Justin Gaines search fund and started a nonprofit organization to help pay for fliers and billboards. Every Thursday, they return to the "18-and-up" night at Wild Bill's to put fliers on all the cars, hoping patrons will provide a clue to Gaines' disappearance.

I have to say I agree, but any exposure for Justin is welcome, even it comes from a not so reliable source.

His family is desperatly trying to find ways to get his name out there, they have limited resources (who doesn't!) and it is very expensive to "market" Justin. So anything free w/ his name on it is welcome.

Gainesville - Gainesville Police still do not know the identity of the skeleton that was found near the intersection of Pine Street at Summit Street Thursday morning.

The remains were found by city workers in a wooded area near a cell phone tower.

Sgt. Johnny Ray said, "There were some types of identification with the body," but until police get a positive ID they are not going to release any further information.

The body was taken to the state crime lab for positive identification.

Ray said it was so decomposed not even the gender could be readily determined.

Today is Justin's 19th birthday. His family is marking the day without him. The local news had a story on it this evening saying that they are still investigating and that some of his friends have not been co-operating with investigators. They haven't posted it on their website yet but perhaps they will later this evening.

Five months have passed and the family of Gwinnett County teen Justin Gaines is no closer to finding him. He disappeared after a trip to a nightclub in Duluth. Now, another tough milestone approaches as the search continues

For the Gaines family, this week is both marked and marred by the day of Justin's birth and his disappearance. April 1st is Justin's 19th Birthday. Wednesday will mark the fifth month Justin never came home. Both milestones come just as the family got word from Gwinnett Police that officers may be closing the investigation.

As they watch their youngest son on the field, Steven and Erika Wilson occassionally can't help but look around still hoping to see their eldest son cheering on beside them.

"His missing from every function, every weekend, everytime we got out and do something. We always look because there's always one less of us there," said Steven Wilson, Justin's stepfather.

"Now it's hard to watch the other kids play because everyday I wonder where justin is. And i know the other ones are still safe, but we don't know where he is still," said mom Erika Wilson. "Tomorrow's going to be a really hard day. He'll be 19 tomorrow. And it'll be hard without him home and not knowing where he is still after 5 months."

Surveillance video inside Wild Bills shows Justin meeting friends and then leaving the night he disappeared. The video was the last real piece of evidence to emerge in the case.
And, in February, Gwinnett investigators said there was evidence of foul play. But now, the investigation into Justin's disapperance runs cold.

"They follow leads but from the email that they had sent me Friday, it seems that they are running at the end of it. And they'll have to pull resources off because it's scary because we don't have answers after 5 months as to where justin is," said Erika.

The family is still offering a $25,000 reward for information that will lead them to Justin.

NORTH RIDGEVILLE — Under other circumstances, the burgers, beer and country music at VFW Post 9871 would have put smiles on everyone’s faces.

Instead, the mood Saturday night was somber as the family of North Ridgeville native Justin Gaines raised money to continue the search for the 18-year-old college student who disappeared from his Georgia home five months ago Wednesday.

“We’re very hopeful until we find proof otherwise that Justin is alive and safe somewhere,” said his aunt, Kelli McGill.

Justin’s mother, Erika Wilson, said her son went out with friends on Halloween and was last seen at a Georgia bar called Wild Bill’s.

He asked her what shirt he should wear because he was going out to meet girls, Wilson said.

Police told the family recently that they now believe Justin’s disappearance is due to foul play, though they won’t tell Wilson why they believe that.

She said detectives give her weekly updates on the search for her son — saying they are looking at phone records and trying to get Justin back on “America’s Most Wanted,” which has featured his story twice.

The Georgia State Defense Force has already conducted two widespread searches, McGill said, and the family continues to print fliers and hire experts to look for Gaines.

Wilson also has a private investigator trying to track down her son. She said the PI has been volunteering for months, but they want to raise money to pay him to stay on the trail seven days a week.

Justin moved to Georgia as a second-grader, and many of his old friends have rallied around the family in the past few months, Justin’s aunt, Lisa Stout, said.

“People we don’t even know have helped us. The whole family is touched,” she said.

Gaines’ family also was raffling off things Saturday, including a Cleveland Browns helmet donated by Riddell. McGill said she was hoping the dinner and raffles would raise about $4,000 to continue the search for Justin.

This will be an especially tough week for the family, she said. Monday will mark Justin’s 19th birthday.

A nationwide fund has been set up through National City Bank to help fund the family’s search. Contributions may be made at any branch.

I have a son Justin's age and can only imagine the fear and pain this family has been going through. It's a scary time when they're an adult yet still a child. As a parent this is the age where you basically lose control, but you know they are not mature enough to make good decisions always. What can you do? I tell my son often that bad things can happen to anyone at anytime, through no fault of your own, so why tempt fate by intentionally putting yourself in situations that could bring harm to you. Does he listen? I don't know.

I really think it is a very bad idea for clubs to allow "teenage" nights, where underage kids can mingle with the drinking patrons. I would imagine a large percentage of them are finding their own ways to get drinks, before they go, out in the car, etc. The clubs are just setting these kids up to get in trouble, get hurt, IMO. Should be outlawed.

I think about Justin often. Maybe I'm a dreamer, but I still pray for a miracle that he will call home one day and everything will be okay.
