Jaliek's family and friends work to keep his memory alive

GREENWICH, N.Y. - Jaliek Rainwalker's grandmother Barbara Reeley said, "My heart breaks more and more. If Jaliek is not alive, I want some closure. I want to be able to put him to rest. It just eats at me day after day after day."

Friends and family of Jaliek said they can't rest until they find out what happened to him in early November when he disappeared. The Find Jaliek Task Force held a bake sale to raise money that will go toward the reward for any information leading to Jaliek's whereabouts, but people here said, more importantly, they're keeping his memory alive.

Jaliek's Respite Home Caregiver Tom Person said, "We feel that it's very important that it's not forgotten and people know that we care about Jaliek and we want him found or whatever happened, we want to know."

Kylee Bentley, 11, said, "He was always happy all the time and always smiling. He was always goofing around."

Even though the goal of this group is to find Jaliek or find closure, they said the Find Jaliek Task Force will exist indefinitely.

"Until we know he is either safe and alive or until we find his body, it is very hard for us to have any peace of mind," said Reeley.

Jaliek's former foster mother Jodi Schoen said, "He loved to run, love to play soccer and play little jokes. He loved to read and he loved his dinosaurs. He was our son and you don't stop loving someone just because he can't live with you."

Meanwhile, we're told investigators continue to follow up on each lead they receive and are in constant contact with Jaliek's family. Police named Jaliek's adoptive father Stephen Kerr a person of interest last week, but no one has been charged with any crime in connection with his disappearance.

i havent read all the pages for this post, only the ones from back in november located on the first page, so i'm not really sure if many people read this anymore. but i actually went to a summer camp with jaliek. for about 2 or 3 years. it was for music and performing arts for younger kids all the way up to highschool seniors. I wasnt close friends with him [seeing as i am older than he is] but i did have a lot contact with him. and whenever i spoke with him or heard him talking to another person he seemed like any other 12 year old boy, a very happy one at that. i belive his other siblings were adopted, maybe not all of them, but i think some [they also went to this camp]. the family came off as very strange to me.

i was completely shocked when i found out about his dissapearance. its such a tradgedy. the more i follow the case though the more i become suspicious of his father. its clear that this boy did not run away. he didnt come off to me as the 'brightest bulb in the bunch' so i highly doubt he would have been able to flee somehwere without anyone noticing.

another thing i found odd, was that back in november, when it had all just happened. i saw an interveiw with the parents of jaliek on the news. his mother said that she thought he was probably staying with someone seeing as he was very cunning and looked much older than he was. Now, to me, Jaliek looked younger, than his age if anything, and i dont think i would use cunning as a term for him either.

the whole situation is just very odd

Hi Meg, welcome to the board! :seeya:

We do look for updates, and try to keep this case on top. The entire case is very odd indeed, and the fact that <Mr. Kerr has refused to take a poly twice speaks for itself.

Dear Meg,

thank you SO much for posting here about your experience of Jaliek in Summer camp a few years ago. It is good to get someones impression who spent time with him, apart from the calculated "stories" his Kerr and his wife were telling about him.

I think thankfully people read and participate on these boards. You can also get current updates and news about Jaliek on the web-site which was launched by his maternal grand parents, his respite parents and former foster parents, all of whom greatly cared for him and loved him. Go to:
www.findjaliek.org

Again, thank you very much, from a stranger who was touched by Jaliek's story.

I think that Kerr is so guilty and that his wife is sticking like glue to him even though she has to have her suspicions. After all, she is the one that made him stop holding that little boys head under water in the creek after he chocked him!! She knows what he is capable of. I hope this case can be resolved and Kerr is busted and that little guy gets some justice.

If Daddy Dearest is as guilty as it feels like he is, maybe this note will be what does him in. If the kid were as unbalanced as his adoptive parents claim he is, he would have gotten himself in trouble well before now. It ticks me off to know that this poor little guy never really got a chance. GRRRRRR

Hi med108, He lived with one other adopted child, a girl, and 3 other children who are Kerr and McDonalds own children. I wish we could post pics here so people could look at his face without having to find a pic in the links. He has a very sweet face and such beautiful eyes. You're right he looks younger, not older.

I received a comment on my blog (http://accordingtokim.wordpress.com/) asking why Jaliek's story hasn't made National News. Here is my latest post and I hope those of you here who have read about Jaliek join us in our efforts.

Dede left a comment asking why hasn’t Jaliek’s story gotten and National coverage. Good question Dede! Many of us have written to various news organizations and talk shows telling Jaliek’s story in the hope someone will cover it Nationally. The closest we’ve gotten is Jaliek’s missing poster on GretaWire and Jaliek’s story is also on InSession message boards under Amber Alerts and Missing People. We all know that National attention to stories like these help in the investigation.

Here is what I’m asking you to do. On Monday Feb 4th email as many news organizations, news personalities (such as Greta Van Susteren and Nancy Grace), and talk shows with a brief description of Jaliek’s story. I will find a copy of one of the letters that I have sent and post is here in case anyone needs any thoughts. Also add links like Stephen Kerr named POI and the letter received by the media. Maybe if we all email on the same day we can get Jaliek’s face on the National circuit.

Let’s get as many emails out on Feb 4th as we can so we can find Justice for Jaliek!

I usually do not like to cast blame so quickly or casually but, this man is guilty ! IMOO. He hopes to move to another area and the publicity will eventually go away......I pray that doesnt happen. I also believe that the local police will not let it rest..... Good for them !

I believe he cold bloodedly killed this boy and he should be punished. The mother should be punished as well for shielding this man.

I will try and stay abreast of this case, no matter how long it takes.

Hudson River search set in effort to locate Jaliek
Police divers mark area near Troy on route traveled with adoptive father

Police divers plan to search the Hudson River near Troy today as part of the ongoing hunt for missing 12-year-old Jaliek Rainwalker.

Greenwich-Cambridge Police Chief George Bell said crews will use a sonar mounted to a boat, and if the weather cooperates divers will be sent in as well. The search will begin near the Troy Farmer's Market, Bell said.

Rainwalker has been missing since Nov. 1. Searchers probed the Batten Kill in November and December, but today's search is their first in the Hudson River.

Bell said police were not operating on a specific tip, but rather chose the new river site based on conversations with Stephen Kerr, Rainwalker's adoptive father and the last person known to have seen the youngster alive.

Police believe Kerr drove with Rainwalker through Troy on the night of Nov. 1 after the two of them went out to dinner at a Red Robin restaurant in Latham. Kerr picked up his emotionally troubled son from a stay in respite care and took him to dinner. Kerr said the two went straight from the restaurant to Kerr's father's house in Greenwich.

Rainwalker disappeared sometime during the night. Kerr produced a note his son had written that seemed to indicate he had run away. But police have had doubts about that story from the beginning.

No one has been charged with a crime related to Rainwalker's disappearance.

At the time of his disappearance, Kerr and wife Jocelyn McDonald were attempting to undo their adoption of Rainwalker, because of what they described as frequent emotional outbursts.

Last week, copies of a letter that seemed to indicate Rainwalker was still alive were sent anonymously to local news organizations, including the Times Union. The cryptic note offered few details, but police requested the letters to check for fingerprints or other forensic evidence. No results from the forensic tests have been released.

So, on Oct. 23rd Kerr is told he can't "get rid of" Jaliek and one week later the poor youngin' disappears. Coincidence? Doubtful. I hope they find his body soon and let him rest in peace. It really ticks me off. That kid deserved so much better. Praying for results with the search.

Police take evidence from Kerr's home

GREENWICH - Police in Greenwich are currently at the former home of Jaliek Rainwalker's adoptive parents.

The 12-year-old boy was been missing since Nov. 1. His father, Stephen Kerr, has been named a person of interest in the case.

Police Chief George Bell says new information gathered this week led to a search warrant for the residence on Hill Street. Officers spent about four hours there and took evidence out of the home.

Bell would not comment on what the new information is or what eveidence they gathered in the home.

Kerr says he's evaluating the legality of the search. He says police did not have a search warrant when they first arrived.

Kerr and his wife, Jocelyn McDonald, moved late last week from Greenwich to West Rupert, Vermont.

Earlier today state police divers were in Troy searching for the boy in the Hudson River near the Hoosick Street Bridge. Two state police boats combed river using sonar equipment searching for any possible sign of Jaliek.

Jaliek's grandmother, Barbara Reeley, watched the search from the shore. It's hard, she says, because she lives close by and her husband works just a couple blocks away.

"It's difficult to think that we would have come and gone back and forth to work, to home each day. If Jaliek is found here, I mean, I don't think that anything could be more heartbreaking than finding him not alive, but also that we could have come and gone for months not knowing," Reeley said.

Bell says they were looking there because he believes Kerr is lying about the car ride he and Jaliek took the day the boy disappeared.

According to the chief, Kerr says he picked up Jaliek from a couple watching the boy at a hotel on Western Avenue in Albany. They went to the Red Robin in Latham and then got on alternate Route 7, crossed the Hoosick Street Bridge and moved on to Greenwich.

Bell says he thinks there was more to that trip. They're focusing on the Hoosick Street Bridge, but won't say why.

Troy police were on scene to assist, keeping in mind they may need to do more.

"If in fact Jaliek's body is discovered in the river and it is determined that harm came to him at this specific location, this becomes a city of Troy homicide," Troy Police Capt. John Cooney said.

Bell says the divers did not find anything in the water on Thursday. There is no word yet if the search there will resume on Friday.

Holding out hope for Rainwalker

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Jaliek Rainwalker's adoptive grandparents and foster parents sit and listen quietly. The concert in Albany is to keep the family's reward fund full. But as the months pass with no sign of Jaliek, emotionally, they are close to running on empty.

"With no sight or sound, we have to think there has been some sort of foul play involved. We just don't know," said Dennis Smith, Rainwalker's Grandfather.

"Whatever did happen to Jaliek is found out and we can put this to rest," said Tom Person, Former Foster Parent.

It's been a busy week for people looking for Jaliek Rainwalker. First, the search of Hudson River and then the search of the Kerr family home in Greenwich.

"That made me feel good. Hopefully they found something that will bring this to an end," said Person.

Police analyze evidence taken from Kerr home

GREENWICH, N.Y. — Police continue to investigate the disappearance of Jaliek Rainwalker, who has been missing for more than three months now.

Last week, Greenwich police and the FBI executed a search warrant at a home Jaliek’s adoptive parents have been staying at and took out boxes of evidence.

Police won’t yet confirm exactly what they took from the house, but they do say that items are being analyzed and tested at the state police crime labs. They said they hope to have test results sometime this week.

Jaliek’s adoptive father, Stephen Kerr, has been named a person of interest in the case. Kerr was the last known person to see Jaliek.

The home that was searched belongs to Graham Kerr, Stephen’s father.

Just read thru this thread this am.

What a piece of work the stepfather is!!!

His "stories" about where Jaliek might be. Well, if he were with a gang, and with all the mental/emotional/behavioural problems he has, he wouldn't have lasted for a New York minute. Gang members would have put him out or did away with him, and his body would have been found by now.

If he were with an Afrikan-American (or any other family,) does Kerr think the boy's problems would magically disappear? The boy would be a lot to handle, especially for people without a clue on his background. They would have had to have sought care--from psychiatrist or medical doctor--whatever. Do we even THINK that ANYONE, unless they are independantly wealthy would just up and take this on without seeking monetary assistance?

The Kerrs should put the monies they received after Jaliek was missing into the fund to find him. Of course, I am sure that money was added to whatever they needed to put a down payment on their new residence. Guess the no running water, no electricity experiment didn't work out?

And, the comment about the vigil. He's not the first, and probably won't be the last (unfortunately) who expresses unhappiness about a vigil of a loved one---bringing it around to themselves. Uhmmm.....a vigil for JALIEK is just that--for JALIEK, NOT for daddy-dearest or anyone else.

I was sure hoping that by the time I got to the end of the thread, there had been some resolution to the case. Sure hope it happens soon.

I truly, truly wish there was some resolution to this case and I do not see how anyone cannot feel that the "father" knows more than he lets on.

Jaliek looks like a sweet kid with problems that this family was completely ill equiped to handle. What a tragedy.

Why cant this man own up to his guilt and be a man......?

I am humbled by your post and you reminded me how many times I felt touched by people so deeply caring about this very special child they had not ever met. But when you hear his heart-braking story and look into his bright, beautiful eyes, one cannot help but see an Angel.
Often times, even early on after his disappearance, I got this feeling that on a spiritual level, maybe he was here as a teacher and angel to guide us to greater awareness of the plight of children in the foster care system, children with abusive parents, children who have no-one to stand up for them and give us heart and determination to stand up for them and search for the truth and keep people involved, act as a community.
And how bright his light shines, even as we still do not really know yet what happend to him and can only hope for peace and the truth to come out. I deeply believe this will happen and that who ever harmed him, will either make a fatal mistake or finally have the courage to be a man and come forth with the truth what happend that night.
Thank you for being here.

No thank you and Huskiki for being here!!!!
When I read what you just posted I got goose bumps, because what you said is so true. There are so many children being killed and abused. I can see Jaliek being their guardian angel to change DCF (here in Florida) and the other agencies that are suppose to be taking care of these children.

I agree that I hope some good comes of this.
I can't recall who said it, but awhile back I read the rhetorical question:

When will we stop having to name laws with the names of murdered children?

Rainwalker's parents file notice of claim against Greenwich, police chief - 15 Feb 08

http://www.poststar.com/articles/2008/0 ... 343762.txt

GREENWICH -- The adopted parents of missing 12-year-old Jaliek Rainwalker filed a notice of claim Friday against the village of Greenwich and its police chief over the search of their home last week by police, alleging "trespass and false imprisonment" among other accusations.

The notice of claim, a precursor to a lawsuit, was prepared on behalf of Stephen Kerr and Jocelyn McDonald by lawyer Tucker Stanclift. Stanclift is a law partner of Jeffrey McMorris, who has represented Kerr and McDonald as police investigate Jaliek’s disappearance and have deemed Kerr a "person of interest" in the investigation.

It relates to a Feb. 7 visit to a home owned by Kerr’s father’s at 11 Hill St. in Greenwich. Kerr and McDonald had been living there in recent weeks, and were in the process of moving out to a new home in West Rupert, Vt., when police went to the home to look for evidence related to anonymous letters about Jaliek sent to area media.

The letters were typed in a font and style that bore a strong resemblance to fonts used by McDonald in correspondence to the media.

(virtually identical to previous article)

http://www.poststar.com/articles/2008/0 ... 353308.txt

However, in the seven-page notice of claim, Stanclift called the police conduct "outrageous" and wrote that Kerr and McDonald were "illegally detained and imprisoned ... for approximately one hour."

"They (police) sat down on the couch after they were told to leave, and they wouldn't allow our clients to leave," Stanclift said.

He also questioned what part a computer could have played in Rainwalker's disappearance. Even if it was found Kerr or McDonald wrote the anonymous letters in question, it would not answer the question of what happened to Rainwalker.

"Unless they're going to say Jaliek was hit over the head with a computer, I don't know what the computer could have to do with any of this," Stanclift said.

He said the State Police and FBI were not named in the notice because he and McMorris believe Bell has been the "ringleader" of the investigation.

Bell called the notice of claim "a ploy to distract attention from the real case."

Police face suit in Jaliek probe - 16 Feb 08

The notice says that abuse of process constituted the "intentional infliction of emotional distress," Stanclift said. A specific amount of damages sought will not arise until the actual lawsuit is filed.

"Jaliek is missing, and the cowboy attitude of this investigation has led to a single, narrow-minded focus," the attorney said. "It's a crusade to try my clients in the press."

Jaliek Rainwalker book put on hold - 18 Feb 08

http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=664624

The authors, Stephen Gnojewski and Alexander DeFazio of Jersey City, N.J., were writing a book tentatively titled "An Inconvenient Child." They could not be reached for comment late Sunday.

The letter warned that Kerr and McDonald had not given their consent for the book. Proceeds from the book were to be used to provide post-adoptive services for Capital Region families and for services to children who have passed out of the foster care system. A Web site for the project has been disabled.

Elaine Person, Jaliek's former foster mother and head of the Find Jaliek Task Force, said the authors decided they did not have the resources to fight Kerr and McDonald's attorney. Still, she said the project would continue. She said she has been supplying the writers with notes for the book.

"The purpose of the book is not to agitate Steven (Kerr) but rather to show what a wonderful child Jaliek was," Person said.

A local author has volunteered to continue the book project, she said, even though Kerr and McDonald say the writer does not have permission to use their son's name in any published work.

"The ending has not been written yet," Person said.

"We don't want any other child to have to live the way he did."

Prosecutor backs police in Jaliek case

GREENWICH -- Washington County District Attorney Kevin Kortright said Monday he believes police followed proper procedure and did not illegally search a home where the adoptive parents of Jaliek Rainwalker lived earlier this month.

Kortright's comments came after a lawyer for Stephen Kerr and Jocelyn McDonald filed a notice of claim against the village of Greenwich and Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell, accusing Bell of leading an unlawful search of the Hill Street home where the Kerrs lived. They moved to West Rupert, Vt., earlier this month.

A notice of claim is the precursor to a lawsuit and is required when someone plans to sue a municipality or municipal agency.

Lawyers for Kerr and McDonald allege their clients were illegally detained, and that police should not have gone into the home before they got a search warrant on Feb. 7.

Kortright, though, said his office had been in communication with Bell's office and State Police the day of the search as a search warrant was being prepared.

"I haven't heard anything about what they (police) did that would be cause for concern," he said.

Police sought to seize computer equipment to compare anonymous, typed or computer-generated notes sent to news media earlier this month -- in which it was written that Rainwalker, 12, was still alive -- to correspondence sent out by McDonald, in which fonts were similar.

Kerr and McDonald were in the process of moving from a home at 11 Hill St., owned by Kerr's father, at the time of the search.

Police were watching the home as they awaited the warrant, which was being sought from Greenwich Village Justice John Pemrick, officials said. That's when Kerr and McDonald arrived.

It was at that point that investigators, fearing the computer equipment they sought would be removed, entered the home, saw a computer and remained in the home despite a request from McDonald that they leave.

Bell has said police had the legal right to remain in the home to safeguard what they believed was evidence until the warrant arrived, since they were concerned it might be removed.

Kortright said that belief was correct.

"I don't know all of the facts as to how that played out, but if it's a situation where they're concerned evidence can be destroyed or removed, they can stop or prevent that," he said.

Kortright said the investigators involved in the case have decades of experience and have handled innumerable search warrants. An illegal search would result in any evidence gleaned from the search being suppressed.

Meanwhile, the case took another strange twist recently when two New Jersey writers who planned to write a book about Rainwalker received a "cease and desist" letter from one of Kerr's lawyers, Jeffrey McMorris.

Proceeds from the book were "to be used to provide post-adoptive services for Capital Region families and for services to children who have aged-out of the foster care system," said Elaine Person, leader of a group of foster parents with ties to Rainwalker who have dubbed themselves the Find Jaliek Task Force.

McMorris said he sent the letter because the couple was concerned that they were not approached about the book and had not given permission for it.

McMorris said it was his understanding of copyright laws that without the permission of Rainwalker's parents, a for-profit book could not be written about him. He said there were also questions about the book's authors.

"My question of them is, 'What are they doing, and how will this help?' " McMorris said.

Person said a new author has agreed to pen the book, to be titled "An Inconvenient Child," but that person will remain anonymous until the book is published.

Kerr, the last person known to be with Rainwalker, has been named a person of interest by police, who believe Rainwalker is dead.

Investigators have cited inconsistencies in Kerr's story and his refusal to take at least two lie-detector tests as reasons for their suspicions.

The boy has not been seen since the night of Nov. 1, and no trace of him has been found. He had been having problems at home, and Kerr and McDonald had planned to undo their adoption of him.

Kerr and McDonald have said they believe Rainwalker ran away. They have been critical of police for focusing on the belief the boy is dead instead of the possibility he left on his own.

I guess anyone can kill a child in this country if they get a lawyer and just refuse to talk to the police. Is the reason they cant go forward in that there is no body ? I hope that poor child will eventually be found or his whereabouts known.

Believe me, this man will never be free of this though. I would write to the newspaper in the town they go to and send them all the details of the case, anonomyously (?) of course.

I feel for the children in this family.

Hi Annie!

The town that they moved to knows all about them. It's just a matter of time before the truth is know.

If Jaliek has met with foul play and his body surfaces I think we'll see this case move right along. I pray that he is alive though.

GREENWICH, N.Y. - The Greenwich Police Department, Chief George Bell, and the village received a notice of claim Tuesday morning — a precursor to a lawsuit — after Jaliek Rainwalker’s adoptive parents Stephen Kerr and Jocelyn McDonald say police entered their home on February 7th without a search warrant.

Washington County DA Kevin Kortright said he does not want to discuss the case on camera, but he did say he does not believe the department acted unlawfully.

He made a statement saying, “I have worked with the Greenwich Police Department for many years and the officers have always acted lawfully. I have faith that the department and the chief did what they needed to do to obtain evidence without breaking the law.”

Meanwhile, Chief George Bell continues to defend the actions of his department.

He said, “I believe we handled ourselves within the color of the law that day when we entered 11 Hill Street.”

Bell said his officers did enter the home before the search warrant was issued, but they did not do anything illegal.

“There was no searching done until the search warrant was in our hands and signed by the judge.”

Bell also said Stephen and Jocelyn were home when police got there, but they were not detained by police. Their lawyer said the couple was illegally detained the day police seized the evidence from the home.

“It’s just another thing that Stephen and Jocelyn…it just shows where their intent is. It’s not about finding Jaliek. It’s about throwing up these smoke screens all around the case,” said Bell.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey McMorris who is representing the couple said they have one year to decide whether or not to go ahead with a full fledged lawsuit. He said his clients have felt that since Day 1 police have been trying to convict Stephen Kerr of a crime, and he adds that McDonald and Kerr believe Jaliek is alive and still hope he comes home safely.

Hi txfemale45,

Yes, all things in good time ...

From my blog:

There could be news on Jaliek Rainwalker within the next week. There’s a news clip on CBS 6. Police Chief Bell says it will be another week or so before results are out on the analysis of evidence taken from the Hill St. home. In the meantime, Barbara Reeley will be meeting with people on Friday afternoons from 3:00-8:00 at the Washington Square Deli in Greenwich. There she will be answering questions and handing out posters.

Last night a fund raiser was held at the Salem Methodist Church by Stephen and Jocelyn’s friends and minister. Stephen and Jocelyn were not present, they are vacationing in South Carolina.

Stephen Kerr's father is a US diplomat to Romania and he funded a $25,000 reward to finding Jaliek. That reward is set up to decrease by $5,000/mo in the hopes that someone will act quick with information. I don't know of any other funds out there for Kerr and McDonald, my best guess is that his father is taking care of them financially.

Either they were very good savers since they didn't spend much in the way of electricity or Kerr's father is helping them out.

This case gets under my skin too for various reasons. Here's the latest. Yesterday I went to the Amrak station to hang posters. I went to the information booth to ask if it was ok. The girl said she didn't see why not. Then I asked where I could hang them. She asked someone else and they said I had to ask the bus station because they own the building, they're in M-F from 9-5. So, no posters hung there. Then I went to a drug store close to the train station. The manager said he didn't have a community board, I asked about the window and he said he couldn't. What's wrong with this world? I did manage to hand some posters at the covered bus stops. Tomorrow I will email the bus station to get permission.

So I can understand if you can't check in to read updates from time to time. Things like this just send the blood pressure through the roof!

Does Kerr have a trust fund? I don't see how he pays for anything. I don't recall if I've ever read that he has/had a job or not. I'd be surprised if he has a job since moving to Rupert unless he's been commuting to whatever job he had before (if he had one). He hasn't been here (VT) long enough to be taking vacation already if he is working.

Hi Cheri :seeya:

He has a job and it's kind of creepy if you ask me. He works for a lab that makes fake body parts, for research I presume. They are located in NY but it could be close enough to the VT boarder where Stephen could commute.

Oh, my...I had not heard that and I live in the area. I too feel very uncomfortable about the dad and the mom. I do wish they would find Jaliek soon. I believe if he was in a gang in Albany, someone would have turned him in by now for any reward money.

Still waiting for news ...

Perhaps the reason why we haven't heard anything is because LE is following some leads. That's what I would like to believe.

I don’t think I have to tell anyone how big this is!!!

Texas EquuSearch helping in search for Jaliek

TEXAS — A Texas-based search and recovery team is stepping in to help in the search for 12-year-old Jaliek Rainwalker. The Greenwich boy has been missing since Nov. 1, and at this point police haven’t found any clues as to what happened to him.

Jaliek’s grandparents contacted Texas EquuSearch, which provides horse mounted search and recovery for lost and missing persons.

The organization has been involved in other high profile missing person cases, such as the Natalee Holloway case. She disappeared on the final night of a high school graduation trip to Aruba in May 2005.

The group said it will do what it can do assist in the search for Jaliek.

This is good news for Jaliek. It will be interesting to learn how TES will proceed in this search as well as Nick Garza's given the amount of snow there is to deal with.

Hi Kim,

I hope that's the case. I also hope that Kerr is being closely watched by someone. I was reading through the "What the Police Know" section of the Find Jaliek Task Force site and thinking that the other children in that household could potentially be in danger.

A new article about TES helping in the search for Jaliek.

Poststar

http://www.poststar.com/articles/2008/03/05/news/local/13402988.txt

Texas group to look for Jaliek

Texas EquuSearch uses searchers on horseback and four-wheelers, as well as technology like sonar and ground-penetrating radar, all at no cost to local officials.

"You name it, we have it, or can get our hands on it," Wisdom said.

The organization has been involved in a number of recent high-profile searches, including the ongoing effort to find missing teenager Natalee Holloway in and around Aruba.

Information about Jaliek has already been posted on the group's Web site, www.texasequusearch.org.

The Bennington Banner has picked up the story about TES. The article also says the police are investigating a man from the same street in Greenwhich for sexual abuse. They don't believe there is any connection to Jaliek's disappearance.

Though both Wagner and Rainwalker lived on the same street, Bell believes the two never had any contact with each other.

"I can't find anybody lately," said Bell.

Hi Cheri,

OK, now I've read the article and it worries me to a degree. I guess I need some answers like, how long have they been looking for this guy and when were charges brought against him? It seems this guy, Russell Wagner, was abusing girls so maybe he never would have had interest in Jaliek. You can't help but wonder what else this guy has done.

Hi Kim,

He fled the last week of February and is now in jail in Virginia. He apparently tried to check himself into the mental health unit of John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell.

Extradition to Greenwich could take a week or longer.

Seems his interest is in teenage girls that he's first plied with alcohol so I doubt he had any interest in Jaliek or anything to do with his disappearance.

They didn't need permission from Kerr or anyone else once they had the search warrant. Kerr's complaint is that officers came into the house before they had the search warrant in their hands. Bell says they did go in but did not do any searching until the search warrant arrived. Odds are the officers were invited in and they just stood looking around until the warrant arrived.

Kerr is also trying to claim they detained him and his wife as well. Bell says they weren't detained and I beleive Bell. Kerr is just trying to cloud the real issue which is Jaliek is missing and he (Kerr) most likley had something to do with it.

I will believe until the day I died unless someone can show me differently, that this man, Kerr, killed his adopted son. I believe he lost his temper, hopefully it wasnt a deliberate act, and choked him or hit him and killed him.

Does anyone have a reasonable idea of how could he have disposed of the body so completely ? And, not left a trace of either anywhere ?

This is a strange and sad case and I hope justice will be served.

Hi Annie :seeya:

I believe that Kerr is responsible for Jaliek's disappearance. He either, as you stated, lost his temper and accidentally killed Jaliek or possibly arranged for Jaliek to be sent away.

As for disposal of the body (I hate to even think about that), it is quite possible that he put him in a body of water. The Hudson River has been searched but it wasn't for months after. The current could have carried him downstream towards NYC. If he weighted him down there is a chance of him resurfacing once the weather and water gets warmer. The gases that the body produces after death would cause the body to rise but I think the cold weather/water can slow that process down. But if Kerr weighted him down then why didn't the sonar detect anything. Perhaps the Hudson isn't the body of water that he used and other rivers and/or lakes should be searched.

LE is holding on to the forensic information and probably for a good reason.

I haven't heard anything more on TES. I do know that they wanted to wait until the weather improved. We still have snow in some areas. It's been a long time with no information and it's killing me! More needs to be done to find missing people, kids especially.

There is a benefit concert coming up in April for Jaliek. It's still in the works but should be April 5th. This should generate some press. When I find out the details of the benefit I will post it here. I do plan on attending. http://www.fox23news.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=*409*776-e0af-4301-87c5-5ca8f3e8cdf5

They believe the footage show's Rainwalker's adoptive father, Stephen Kerr, driving around Greenwich on the night the boy vanished.

Police Share Evidence in Rainwalker Disapperance Case

Cambridge-Greenwich Police are sharing more evidence with the public in the case of the disappearance of Jaliek Rainwalker.

The 12-year-old Washington County boy has been missing since last November.

Now, investigators are showing surveillance video footage that they say could blow a hole in the alibi of Stephen Kerr, Rainwalker's adoptive father whom police have labelled a person of interest in the boy's disappearance.

The black-and-white video comes from the Glens Falls National Bank branch on Main Street in Greenwich.

The timestamp on the footage is 12:16 a.m. on November 2nd.

Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell explains, "It shows a gold Chrysler minivan, similar to what Stephen was driving, headed west on State Route 29 or Main Street here in Greenwich."

Bell says he decided to make the video evidence public in the hopes of finding out whether or not the van in the video is the same as Kerr's father's van: the one Kerr was driving on the night that Rainwalker vanished.

If the person driving the van in the bank surveillance video is Stephen Kerr, police say his trip west down Main Street shortly after midnight on November 2nd does not match the story he told investigators.

"He said he was in bed at 12:16 a.m.," says Bell.

Police also say they're now more confident than ever that Kerr is lying about where he was when he used his cell phone on the night that Rainwalker disappeared.

"He was definitely in South Troy," Chief Bell tells FOX23 News. "I can't tell you exactly where but he was not on his route that he says he took when he received that phone call."

Jeffrey McMorris, Kerr's attorney, calls the video evidence ridiculous.

McMorris tells us, "It's black and white. It's jumpy. It's choppy. I would think they might be able to do a little better job than that."

The Glens Falls lawyer says his clients won't allow police to take another look at the van until investigators can explain how an additional search will help find Rainwalker.

Kerr still hasn't submitted to Chief Bell's request that he take a polygraph test.

McMorris explains, "If he wanted to guarantee for us that Stephen takes the polygraph and is cleared that he'd get full immunity, then we might consider it."

FOX23 News asked McMorris from what charge or charges would Kerr want immunity.

McMorris explains that he's looking for immunity from whatever charge or charges police might try to pin on the missing boy's father.

Someone said Stephen works in a lab that makes body parts for medical cultivation. Hospitals have a medical waste disposal service. Do these types of Labs have something similar?? If he had done something to Jaliek, would he have access to this building at night?

Hi Biff! That's correct, it's a creepy job if you ask me. Not only could this lab have some sort of waste disposal service, it's set on 40+ acres of land. I will have to find the link but when I was reading on their site it mentioned that employees could walk the acrage while on thier breaks. That struck a cord with me and I did mention it to someone at the time.

That's a great question, did he have access to this building after hours. I'm also now wondering how close it is to Greenwich. When I find the link I will post it here.

This place gives me the creeps, I don't care who works there. LOL

"We work hard to provide our employees with a work environment that encourages their creativity and participation. Our building was designed with employee comfort in mind. From the large windows in our production area to the cushioned radiant heated floor, attention was given to creating an environment that is physically and emotionally pleasing. During their breaks our employees can enjoy 41 acres of hiking, biking and snowshoe trails. The positive work environment contributes to our ability to attract and retain a talented and committed workforce. "

I find the 41 acres curious. I wonder if that area has been searched.

Hi jtazzy :seeya:

The lab is in Salem which is just outside of Greenwich, from what I can see on the map. It's not near South Troy but I think it's worth looking into. IMO It's so creepy, especially under the circumstances. Now I'm wondering about what chemicals are involved in making body parts and are they toxic. :read:

People are working with TES and they are expected to help with Jaliek's case. I hope that's sooner rather than later, my guess is that it will be in the coming weeks. As far as his work place being searched, I don't know. LE has kept a lot of info to themselves in this case. It's great to have this info on the tape and the cell phone records.

Just bumping for our precious boy Jaliek :rose:

They are putting so much pressure on Kerr right now. Kerr you need to admit to what happened so that beautiful young boy, Jaliek can be laid to rest.

Jaliek there are so many people looking for you. Just use your light that God has given you to lead them to you.

Literally, got shivers and creepy energy up my spine when I was reading all your posts about the lab and property earlier.

In Nov. when I first heard about Jaliek and his going missing, through a plead by Barbara, his grandma, I psychically "felt" intrusions and it also felt as if there were more then one person involved. Of course I cannot proof anything, but we might find out soon from LE. They finally seem to make some headway.

I hope this is the beginning of the end for this case. Jaliek needs to be found and he will show us the way. Whether he is alive or no longer with us, he will lead us to him. I pray every time I see his smile that he's alive somewhere but with every day that passes the chances of that decrease.

Hi Bertha :seeya:

That lab is very creepy and somehow fits Kerr to a T. I can't get past the fact that they are on 40+ acres. And then the thought of waste disposal.

I think the cell phone records are an important piece of this puzzle. It shows that Kerr was not honest about the path they took home. So what path did they take? And if it was Kerr in that van driving around Greenwich after midnight, where was he going or coming from?

There's going to be a concert for Jaliek on April 5th. I posted what information I had on my blog but the Task Force hasn't released it officially yet. Once they do I will post it here. I hope you are able to attend, it would be great to see you again!

Hi jtazzy :seeya:

Did you read the part about the polygraph, it's funny. Kerr's lawyer says he'll agree to take the polygraph but on if he's offered immunity if he is cleared. If he is cleared by the polygraph, which isn't reliable anyway, then why would he need immunity? Even though it's not reliable I want him to take it. It's not the results I'm concerned with, it's his willingness to take the damn thing. sigh Immunity! LOL

There's also going to be a bake sale that same day in a different location, the concert will be at night. I know your thoughts are with Jaliek.

"Jaliek is still our number one priority; we're waiting on the Texas Equusearch (an equine search team) and the weather to break and we need the high water to recede," Bell said.

I hope it doesn't take too long for this to happen but at least we know that things are moving forward.

For anyone who is in the Albany, NY area:

Jaliek’s Journey Home

“A Musical Jam for the Missing”

http://findjaliek.org/

When: April 5th, 2008
Location: Carl *. Taylor Community Auditorium at Schenectady Community College

Time: 7PM

In honor of Jaliek Rainwalker, 12 year old boy missing from Greenwich, NY, we are jamming for Jaliek! Our hopes are to promote public awareness regarding Missing Persons Day in New York and generate funds towards Jaliek’s reward. April 5th, 2008, we will have the benefit for Jaliek in the Carl *. Taylor Community Auditorium at Schenectady County Community College sponsored by the Student Activities Office. The event will be a musical collaboration including musicians that have know Jaliek, and have been a part of his life. Admission is free so bring your friends! A free will love basket will be available to those that are in the position to increase Jaliek’s reward.

Note: April 6th, in 2001 Governor Pataki designated April 6th, as Missing Persons Day in New York State. The remembrance was created in partnership with Mary and Doug Lyall and their non-profit organization, the Center for Hope. The Lyall’s daughter, Suzanne, has been missing since March 2, 1998. Doug and Mary Lyall are keeping their fingers crossed that a National Missing Persons Day will also be April 6. The legislation’s future is in Bush’s hand. “Now we’re just waiting to see if the President signs it,” Mary Lyall said. “We’re pretty excited.”

Jaliek Rainwalker's adoptive grandmother says she and her husband are seeking legal custody of the missing boy.

Barbara Reeley is the mother of Jocelyn McDonald - Rainwalker's adoptive mother.

Reeley tells FOX23 News that the search for the missing 12-year-old East Greenwich boy is being hampered by McDonald and her husband, Stephen Kerr, having official custody of Rainwalker.

Police have named Kerr a "person of interest" in the boy's disappearance.

Reeley says she's already in contact with social services.

She is planning a news conference for Friday afternoon to discuss the custody issue.

thanks to all for keeping us updated in this case. I'm curious as to Kerr's reaction after the grandmothers press conference. These things - kerr and his thing, should not have had custody of any foster kid or any kid. I'd like to talk to the person who gave them custody and okay their home without a bathroom and water. This isn't the 1920's.

Hey Mystery :seeya:

When Kerr and his wife adopted Jaliek they lived in a normal house. For whatever reason, to leave a smaller footprint, they built a studio/workshop that they then moved into. So I can see how they were able to adopt in the first place. However ...Jaliek was a special needs child so the state was still paying Kerr for the services that Jaliek should have received. In a case like that, where the state is still involved, you would think they would do some follow-ups.

I'm still waiting for Kerr's reaction to the cell phone records. Add to that the custody issue, he's not going to be happy. Oh well :)

Yes, Barbara Reeley is Kerr's mother-in-law. She has been suspicious of Stephen from very early on. Barbara is an amazing woman. The other children were taken away for a while, from Kerr but not his wife. He has since been able to be with his family and they have moved to VT.

The adoptive grandmother of Jaliek Rainwalker says she wants legal custody of the missing 12-year-old boy. Barbara Reeley is the mother of Jocelyn McDonald, who is Jaliek's adoptive mother. She says the search for Jaliek is being held up by McDonald and her husband Stephen Kerr, because they have custody of him and she feels they are not doing enough to look for Jaliek.

Jaliek was last seen in November with Kerr, who has been named a person of interest in the case, but not charged. Barbara Reeley, Jaliek's Grandmother says, "It would only benefit Steven if Jaliek were found, it would only benefit him, unless he harmed him. I really want Jaliek to know that I love him, his grandfather loves him, many people love him, and he would have a welcome home on the slight chance he's alive." If she gets custody, Reeley will have access to Jaliek's records, something she feels with help with the investigation.

Kerr told police he received a call about 8:15 that night when he was on Route 40 in the hamlet of Melrose in the town of Schaghticoke, Bell said.

"He told us he was in front of Henry’s Garage in Melrose when he received that call, but we know for a fact he has lied to us about that because the cell phone records show the call was received in South Troy," Bell said. "He was nowhere near the route he told us he took home."

Engineers from Verizon Wireless analyzed the call data and determined where Kerr was based on which cell phone tower the call "hit," the chief said.

Bell would not say who called Kerr at that point, but he said cell phone records show it was the only call Kerr answered that night.

"The person who called him said he seemed quite agitated," Bell said.

Spring doesn't happen in upstate NY until May. March and April are full of snow and then rain. Once TES gets here I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of progress.

Thanks for bumping this for Jaliek!

Have not found anything written yet, but a body was found in Menands, just a few hours ago. This is a little south of Troy, very close to this story. There are others missing in the area, but local radio is speculating. Please pray for Jaliek, he needs prayers.

I have seen the news this morning and the garbage bag was not very big and how could a grown man or women fit in a garbage bag. I think this is going to end very badly for Jaliek. I have thought from the beginning that his adopted parents had something to do with his disappearance.

God Bless Jaliek
If this is him or if it is not.

I would bet money (that I don't have) that his adoptive parents killed him.....

This whole story just breaks my heart. The adoptive parents sure are suspect, can you imagine being that boy.

It was only the torso in the bag so an adult would fit easily. In the first link it is said that they feel that the body is larger than Jaliek's would be. Could be someone from the city who was dumped there. Very sad, regardless of who it was.

Moe76

I have not heard anything about the body being large. In fact, the children who reported this said they thought it was an animal due to it's small size, therefore they did not immediately report it to their parents. Who knows? The police are not talking very much.
I did hear on the radio the police do have a DNA sample of Jaliek's, so I figure this may take a few days. The grandmother has been on too, she is scared.

MM, I don't think any of use agree with the fact that Jaliek ran away. I honestly believe in my heart that Kerr had something to do with it.

I am hoping that someone will "stumble" upon Jaliek soon so his grandparents can have closure. If not when the snow melts and TES comes in I really feel like they will find him, or at least I'm praying they do.

This beautiful boy with such a wonderful smile needs to be brought home to his loving grandparents.

A pair of private investigators who work for Mission Possible Investigations are usually hired for their work. But since January, they've been volunteering their services, putting in dozens of hours looking for the boy.

Private investigator Stacy Jones said, "We've been investigating any leads in our search for Jaliek."

Some of those new leads have led them to search in Rensselaer County.

Volunteers identify areas of interest in Rainwalker search

They think the search should focus in South Troy, Wynantskill and Postenkill. People who may have been in these areas the weekend of his disappearance are urged to come forward if they think they saw anything suspicious.

GREENWICH - Saturday has been designated "Find Jaliek Day" by friends and loved ones of the missing 12-year-old child.

Jaliek Rainwalker of Greenwich hasn't been seen since Nov. 1.

A concert featuring the McKrells will be held Saturday at Schenectady County Community College. There's also a bake sale in Greenwich.

Residents in the path between South Troy and Greenwich are being asked to search their own properties for clues, especially if they border the Hudson River or Batten Kill.

FIND JALIEK DAY – APRIL 5, 2008

The Find Jaliek Task Force along with several organizations and individuals have prepared a special day to concentrate efforts to find Jaliek Rainwalker. The day consists of three different events, lasting from three hours to all day. They are as follows:

Greenwich Bake Sale – Greenwich Kmart from noon to 3:00pm

This is being run by a group of individuals who never knew Jaliek, but have come to care about finding him. None of them knew each other before Jaliek disappeared. These very generous volunteers got to know each other through a television station blog about Jaliek. The1500+ posts to the blog created a common bond between them. In an effort to contribute to the public’s awareness about Jaliek’s disappearance, they have each asked friends and families to contribute to the bake sale they are holding that will raise funds for that purpose.

Community Search for Jaliek – All Day

In an effort to cover as much area as possible, we are asking everyone who lives, works or frequents the areas from South Troy to Greenwich and all roads in between to search their own properties, especially if they border the Hudson River or Batten Kill River . Search the areas of your favorite fishing holes or hiking trails. If you see anything suspicious, back away and do not touch anything. Contact the Greenwich Police as soon as possible on 692-9332.

Concert – Jaliek’s Journey Home
“A Musical Jam for the Missing”
7:00pm
Carl *. Taylor Community Auditorium at
Schenectady County Community College
78 Washington Ave, Schenectady, NY

This concert is sponsored by the Student Activities Office of SCCC. It features The McKrells, a very popular, internationally known Celtic Bluegrass band and the Capital Pride Singers. Admission is free. A free will love offering will be taken at the event to support efforts to find Jaliek and to raise public awareness of Jaliek’s disappearance.

Search for Rainwalker set
Group organizes hunt for missing boy; concert fundraiser scheduled

GREENWICH -- The Find Jaliek Task Force will lead a search for the missing boy Saturday.

Jaliek Rainwalker, 12, of Greenwich, disappeared Nov. 1.

Elaine Person of Altamont, who was an occasional caregiver for Jaliek, fears the boy is dead. She wants people who live around the Hudson River and elsewhere between South Troy and Greenwich to search their properties. She hopes as the snow melts more clues to Jaliek's whereabouts will be revealed.

Police believe Jaliek's adoptive father was driving with the boy around South Troy before the two spent the night in Greenwich. Jaliek's adoptive father, Stephen Kerr, was the last person to see him. Kerr is not affiliated with the task force, Person said.

"The woman's body that was found in Menands was 30, 35 feet from someone's back door, and they didn't realize it was a body," Person said.

The Find Jaliek Task Force wants everyone who lives, works or frequents the areas from South Troy to Greenwich and all roads in between to search their properties, especially ones that border the Hudson or Batten Kill rivers.

Anyone who sees something suspicious is asked to back away, not touch anything and call the Greenwich Police at 692-9332.

A bake sale is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Greenwich Kmart, Route 29.

The concert was wonderful! I brought my son with me, he's 5, so I didn't get to stay the whole time. You could feel the love and positive energy in the room. I let Barbara know that everyone here supports her and she appreciates it so much.

Today is NYS Missing Person's Day. There are activities at the NYS museum so that's where I'm headed today.

Thank You to all who have followed Jaliek's stroy. It's time for him to come home.

Dear huskiki,

Thank you for this link about the new river search and the man who works at the school Jaliek went to.

It is just so heart braking and yet also up-lifting at the same time to witness the caring and love of so many people and many of them were strangers to Jaliek, but not anymore. He has a very large family now who cares about him, with his grand parents and his former foster families and respite parents at the front and all of us on the various blogs and boards, at the events and helping in any way we can. That is beautiful! and in this way Jaliek also has given all of us a gift. The gift of connection and feeling part of a greater community that cares about one of theirs.

I am so sorry we were not able to come up, but we were also there in spirit and sent loving thought as we walked the land here to all the searchers this weekend and the participants of the concert.

And a quick thought to jtazzi about the TES and being out in the forest and the land with the horses. It is very muddy now and very deep footing and it would be too treacherous out there. But once it is warmer, the horses will help find Jaliek, they can tune-in on a much different level then the people and can guide their riders where they need to go.

Lobe to y'all and Jaliek,
Berta

News Release

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers will be conducting training for civilian wild land search volunteers and Volunteer Firemen. The training will be held in Greenwich on April 8,9 and 12th. This twelve hour training course normally concludes with a simulated search to allow trainees to get a feel for what an actual search is like and what to expect during the course of an actual search assignment.

On April 12, trainees will be completing actual search assignments connected with the on going search for 12 year old Jaliek Rainwalker who was reported missing by his adopted father Stephen Kerr on November 2, 2007 from 11 Hill Street in the Village of Greenwich. Search Volunteer trainees under the direct supervision of New York State Forest Rangers and experienced civilian crew bosses will be researching areas already searched last November and December and some new areas that Police feel should be searched. Property owners should be aware that these searches will be conducted in and around the Towns of Easton and Greenwich as well as the Village of Greenwich.

New York State Forest Rangers, the Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department, the New York State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation and numerous other outside police agencies, fire departments and volunteers conducted an exhaustive search of the Village of Greenwich and the surrounding area last fall to locate the missing twelve year old to no avail. The fact that Jaliek Rainwalker is still missing presents a unique opportunity for New York State Forest Rangers to utilize search volunteers from this class to actually participate in actual search assignments as part of their training.

As warm weather starts to arrive, Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell is encouraging residents to be observant of their property as they head outdoors. Police are also asking that with the arrival of warmer weather that the people who are venturing outdoors to their favorite fishing spot or kayaking, hiking or camping or to the upcoming turkey hunters to be alert and check their surroundings for any clues to the whereabouts of the missing Greenwich boy.

Anyone that may come across something on their property or that may have information concerning the disappearance of Jaliek Rainwalker is asked to contact the Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department at 518-692-9332.

Anyone that has questions concerning the upcoming training event is asked to contact New York State Forest Ranger Lt. John Solan at 583-9421.
