Investigators combed the area in Marion County searching for Wiles by foot and used dogs and a helicopter.
Witnesses said they believe they saw a car on Highway 40 matching the description of Wiles' car.
The search, police said, turned up many items but the most suspicious was an old suitcase containing a distorted driver's license of a woman.
Detectives said they will run tests on the suitcase and show it to Wiles' family to determine whether or not it's a clue in her disappearance.
"We're searching for anything that might take us to the next level in this investigation," Capt. James Pogue with the Marion County Sheriff's Office said. "That could be something as small as a button off of a shirt to actual human remains."
Detectives said more volunteers will continue searching the forest for clues.

I just don't understand how come she has been missing since April and no one knew? I sure hope they find an answer here. This is just too close to home for me. Alot of missing or murdered women around central florida. I have a 19 year old daughter and I worry about her every time she walks out the door!

Found this:

Boyfriend is a person of interest
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/lake/orl-forest0507aug05,0,105900.story
Authorities said Wiles may be here, not far from State Road 40 and Forest Road 88, because a witness said Wiles' boyfriend asked for a ride to the area. Authorities don't know when but hope cell-phone records shed some light. They said the boyfriend is a person of interest in the case.

Maybe it's been kept quiet as they were trying to find her & or evidence against the b/f...or pressure the b/f to confess & lead them to her. JMO
Very sad. Crimestoppers has a $1000 reward up

I do not understand it taking from April to June before someone reported her missing either! Her father reported her missing when she did not show up for her daughters 16th birthday. Hope they find Christine soon. :rose:

Hi there,

I am Christine (Christi's) Wiles sister. A family friend pointed me to this discussion board and this topic. Without going into too much detail, it is a lot harder to prove to the authorities that an adult is actually missing. We were originally told that she didn't "meet the criteria" of a missing person. Umm..hello! We know Christi...her patterns, etc. None of us had heard from her...hence...she's missing! The first detective on the case was uncooperative and didn't believe she was actually missing, rather, selectively partaking in other activities & not choosing to be found. This was the main reason for the slow speed in getting the word out to the publc & having this case taken seriously. We trusted that this detective was doing his job.

However, my parents finally went above his head, and we finally got a new detective on the case who we have been very happy with, and she has really gotten the ball rolling.

Also, we've all heard the saying before to not believe everything you see on T.V. or read in the paper...well, after this experience, I would definitely caution against that as well. There have been so many screw-ups in this reporting, it's unbelievable.

Anyway, thank you caring enough to post about my sister & your prayers in finding her.

God Bless,

I'm so confused. Did she grow up in Texas or Florida? Also can you shed anymore light on the timeline and her travels?
Glad to hear you have a good detective. There are a lot of wonderful people out there to support you & your family. May you, from this time forward, find comfort and answers. God speed.

I understand how this can be confusing regarding Texas and Florida. First of all, my sister was born and has lived in Ocala, FL all of her life, with an exception of a few months when she lived in St. Louis 21 years ago. The media is saying that she has a house in Ocala AND Texas...when in fact, she has neither. She went to Texas to visit a friend.

I live in Tampa and was visiting my family in Ocala on the evening of April 21st. My sister and I hadn't seen each other for awhile, and went out for a few drinks. The last time I saw her (or pretty much anyone saw her) was that evening when she got out of my car. I can't really go into much more about that.

You asked if her b/f was being watched. (For the record...they had only known each other a very short time and only dated about 2 months.) He is actually currently in jail on an unrelated charge, and all I can say after learning more about him & his past charges...and I'm sure you are all intelligent enough to read between the lines here is this....this is an individual who NEVER, EVER should have been walking the streets...

Thank you again for your prayers and well wishes.

XOXO

Thank you so much, Jeanne, and all of you for welcoming me and your support. Our family has been getting so frustrated at the inconsistent and inaccurate news reports, so I just wanted to set a few things straight that I was able to.
At one point, they reported that my father reported her missing after she failed to report to her daughters' 16th b-day party in Texas! Her daughter has never even BEEN to Texas, much less lived there!
So again, there's a good lesson learned not to believe everything you see or hear.

Thanks, hope you don't mind the inquiries.

Grande,

I don't mind the inquiries and will answer what I can. I never saw my sister again after she got out of my car and into his.

Thanks for clearing that up. When I heard it on the news I looked at my husband and told him that something just doesn't sit right about what they just reported. Why would she have two houses and why would her 16 yr old be in Texas with out her mom....

Has anyone thought about calling in Equusearch from Texas. They are based out of Texas but do searches all over the world. Tim Miller ,the founder, lost his daughter to abduction so he tries to help out when he can.

Crazy dais,

That information is not accurate. Not really sure where it came from, but there are bound to be many rumors, etc., in all cases such as this. We expect that.

The lead detective in this case, Rhonda Stroup, has been keeping in very close contact with my family...as a matter of fact, I spoke with her yesterday, and there is no truth to that statement.

Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.

Hi again,

Yes, we were there that evening. I haven't lived in the area for 10 years, so I wasn't at all familiar with any of the places we went that evening. We did have a great time though, laughing and dancing. She introduced me to several people that evening...did I meet you?

Somehow I don't have my personal message turned on now, I'm new to this, but I will work on it.
Please keep in touch, there are so many rumors going around I wonder what is true and what is not. Do you know when Billy will be released?

We hope to God he will never be released!! He has two hearings this week and while there is a chance he could get out...if there is any justice in the world, that won't happen.
I don't know if you know him well or just thru passing, but the things I've learned about this individual (very detailed info.) are absolutely horrifying. He's a monster. Truly. He honestly should never have been walking the streets.

Thank God, he is NOT getting out anytime soon! The judge on his VOP is the same judge that originally sentenced him to 30 years for the kidnapping, rape and torture of another woman. He got out on a technicality. Today, there was a very strong presence of major crimes detectives in the courtroom. The judge ordered a pre-sentencing investigation. The judge knows his past and hopefully that will work in our favor.

The torture that Mr. Ashton bestowed on his previous victim is absolutely chilling. She barely escaped alive.

Thanks to all for keeping this thread active. As Grande stated, the sentencing on an unrelated charge for Billy Ashton is on 9/19. We are hoping that he will get the maximum, 10 years, so that it will give law enforcement time to gather more evidence, etc.

Candlelight vigil set for missing woman

OCALA -- Next Sunday, at 6:30 p.m., there will be a candlelight vigil at the downtown square for a missing 39-year-old woman

The day would mark the six-month disappearance of Christine Wiles who was last seen alive on April 21.

In early August, Marion County sheriff's deputies, with assistance from its volunteer Emergency Response Team, and the U.S. Forest Service searched an area north of State Road 40 and south to Forest Road 597. They also checked the shooting range near Forest Road 88 and a lake by the southeast corner of SR 40 and State Road 19.

After death of woman, father seeks closure
Ocala man believes prisoner knows what happened to his daughter.

Blackburn said before the man was sent to prison, sheriff's detectives took a belt and shoes from him and sent it to a lab to be tested.

Blackburn said the man was the last person to be seen with his daughter on April 21. They were in a 1995 Chrysler New Yorker that Blackburn believes belongs to the man's family.

The car was found in July with blood in the trunk, indicating foul play, according to sheriff's officials.

Maj. Chris Blair, head of the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit, said the items were sent to the crime lab and that he was apparently "the last person known to have been in contact with her."

Blair would not say much about the investigation, other than to say, "We're leaving all avenues open."

I honestly don't care about what kind of person Christine is or was. All that matters, imo, is that a young woman is missing. I really don't believe it is any one's business what problems she may have had in her life. If her parents felt it was necessary to air her dirty laundry in public, so be it. The fact that they didn't and are worried enough to be searching for her, notwithstanding what her past may or may not be, speaks volumes to me.

Vigil held for missing woman

What makes the man suspect in Blackburn's mind is that he is the last person known to have been seen with Christine, and in 1998, he was arrested by Ocala police detectives and charged with sexual battery, kidnapping and battery on his then-girlfriend in an especially brutal attack in the forest.
...
Blackburn said the man was the last person to be seen with his daughter on April 21. They were in a 1995 Chrysler New Yorker that Blackburn believes belongs to the man's family.

The car was found in July with blood in the trunk, indicating foul play, according to sheriff's officials.
...
She returned to Ocala, and Blackburn saw his daughter with the man on Easter Sunday. On April 21, Blackburn-Wiles and her sister went to a couple of bars outside Belleview. The man, who was at one of the bars, reportedly followed them. Wiles told her sister to pull over, and she went into the man's vehicle. It would be the last time anyone would see her.

I just found out about this a few days ago. I had a heck of a time finding information about it on the internet as I was unaware that Christi's last name had changed over the last 5 years.

Does anyone know if this Billy character drove a truck? I have a friend who tells me a story about someone in a truck who gave him a hard time when he gave Christi a ride home one night after he ran into her stranded at a store on a pay phone trying to find a ride.

And what about Mr. May (I forget his first name) who was arrested and jailed for beating Christi when she was pregnant and arrested again and held without bond for stalking her in 1999 or 2000?

Also, if anyone knows how I can get in touch with her Ocala friends Bonnie, Rikki & Steve, or Dolleen, please send me a Private Message.

How long has it been since she had trouble with mr. may? Does he have a violent history like the one last seen with her?

Mr. May has a long history with crack cocaine, alcohol, and violence. When he was arrested for stalking her, it was years after he had been jailed for a felony charge of battery on a pregnant woman. In the past, Christi had told me this guy used to ask her how tall she was so he knew how big to build the pine box he was going to bury her in.

Have you passed all the information you have on to Law Enforcement?

There is no doubt in my mind when law enforcement ran a background on Christi, she was listed as a victim in both cases of Florida vs. Mr. May. I want to say his name is Billy. I don't know if it's short for William or Willard. He has a sister Michelle and a brother Mike I believe. All still reside in the Ocala area to my knowledge.

I'll do a search of the Marion County Jail database and get back to you.

Nothing comes up on the Marion County Sheriff's Inmate Archive. This database has either been built since his last incarceration or I am not remembering his first name correctly. Unfortunately, their system will not allow you to search by last name only.

If anyone can help put me in touch with Rikki & Steve, Bonnie, or Dolleen (Christi's friends) from Ocala, please send me a PM. I am also willing to pass on my contact info to be relayed to them to contact me.

No, I am referring to Mr. May not Mr. Ashton.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office plans to search the area of Wildcat Lake in the Ocala National Forest tomorrow for the body of Christine Wiles, a Belleview woman who has not been seen since April 2007.

Jenifer Fisher, a spokeswoman for the Marion County Sheriff's Office said that over 100 law enforcement officers, including a dive team and K-9 units, and volunteers will comb the site for Wiles' remains or evidence that might provide investigators with clues about her disappearance.

"We hope that the search brings closure to the family and provides us with evidence to further our investigation," Fisher said.
