Thank you for this information Maelstrom5! I see they are making a stop in Albany, NY at the Center for Hope for Suzanne Lyall. This is the first I've heard of this group, I'm going to read up on what they are all about.

Thanks again!

Hi huskiki,

CUE are a wonderful group of people.

Its sad, that there are so many missing and no national focus or forum about them.

Take a look at the missing who are on the street corners. We read a lot about women forced into the sex trade that come from overseas but in truth most sex trade workers forced to walk the streets come frome our local neighborhoods. Young girls 13 to 16 years old who never make the news.

Not Kara's or Suzanne's case but missing none the less.

I know about Suzanne's case, know she is probably a victim of a stranger abduction. I find it so very sad that most have never heard of her.

Thanks Peter,

Cleaned out my box a little if you'd like to send that PM now.
Thanks for the info on the GA myspace page.
I knew that people can say they are from anywhere, I just couldn't get a handle on what WS'ers were getting worked up about re:the posted picture from that page.

Someone made a comment stating the kid looked like Kara bound and gagged?
I haven't had the chance to look at the page yet, did you see anything like that?

Always,
StillHoping

ETA: Forgive me, as I am a bit slow on following up with some of the info you've sent me. I unfortunately have had a huge workload as of late. Please know, that Kara is no less on my mind or in my prayers.

Hi Maelstrom5,

They do seem like a great group. I will make sure to attend their stop in Albany, it's only 10 minutes from where I live.

There are so many missing people in this country, it's impossible to keep up with them all. We probably only hear about 5% on these boards, it's sad. Just this week a woman's body was found in Catskill, NY. She was only reported missing last week but was obviously missing for a few weeks (per decomp).

If you are famililar with Suzanne you are probably also familiat with Karen Wilson. It's sad that so much time has gone by and nothing happens with these cases.

From the comments section of the above link. I know I posted about the comment from J. Burton Stone at WS, not sure if I posted it here. As you can all see, I left a comment of my own requestion clarification, which I don't know if J. Burton Stone has or will see.

I am also curious about the comment left asking if Belton's Mayor (Jimmy Odem) has a soundproof room in his basement. Thought that was interesting in relation to the other comments.

Snipped from link:

1. Please answer these five questions:
(1) Why did it take the Belton MO two (2) weeks to open and inventory Kara’s school locker?
(2)Why did the police release the man Kara was fighting with before she went missing?
(3) How is this man related to powerful members of the Belton community?
(4) Why has Kara’s name NOT been brought up once in City Council meetings?
(5) Whay has EquiSearch not been asked to come into the case?
Best Wishes,
Burton Stone

2. J.Burton Stone,
Please share with us why you want answers to these questions. Particularly the question about how Kylr is related to powerful members of the Belton Community. Many people have long been suspecting a coverup and this comment fits right into that. Please give more detail or give us a jumping off point for researching this further. thanks.

I do not recall ever having had a dream about a missing person from any of the cases I follow.
Yet...last night, I had 3 seperate dreams about Kara. I don't claim to have prophetic dreams, and I doubt that these dreams mean anything more than that Kara is very much on my mind at all times.

Praying, as always, for her safety and happiness wherever she may be.

I must admit that I haven't followed this case as closely as some of you but that poem posted gave me the creeps and satanic cult is the first thing that came to mind.

Hi nt,

You meant Kara lol, No; as far as I know Kara was not involved with cult activity, BUT, and this is a big but, she was friendly with a group of people who like to listen to and play a type of Heavy Metal music called "Death Metal". One of those people was her ex-boyfriend.

One of the very strange things about Kara’s case is that a number of the people she lists on her top friends list on MySpace have never been interested in helping to find her. A few; like Crystal, have and they have gone out of their way to help the Beckford’s out by attending rally’s and posting information on the internet; but most don’t want anything to do with it.

I find that interesting because in my experience those who are closest to a missing person are also the first people who step up to the plate and help out.

Yes, Kara. lol Thanks Peter.

That is very interesting. Do you think they may have an idea of where she may be but are afraid to come forward to help out? Are these "friends" all from the same town as Kara? I know that on Myspace and Facebook, you can have friends without even having met them in person. In other words, a friend of a friend and they just get added to your myspace, etc.

Hi,

Most of Kara’s top friends come from Belton or other towns in the Kansas City, Missouri metropolitan area. A couple use fake hometown addresses but I checked those people out with others and it seems all but one or two of her top friends live in a 50 mile radius.

In a few more days Kara will be missing for a year and a half. I personally believe that several people know where she can be found.

I believe that at least one person and maybe one or two others have a very good reason for not telling the police where she is; they don't want to go to jail.

All of Kara's real friends initially hoped that she had runaway. Many never believed that was the case but it was the only way to view her case that had the potential for a happy outcome, so they clung to that hope. As time passed, and the police took the time to make sure everyone knew that if Kara contacted them that she would not be in any trouble, that hope faded.

For most of them a turning point came last February when Kara would have turned 18. At that point they could no longer fool themselves; they knew that in all likelihood Kara would always be 17.

As I have said several times here I believe Kara is the victim of foul play. I sincerely hope that I am wrong and that Kara is kicking back on a beach in Mexico, but I don’t think that is the case. There are a number of things I know or have been told that I can’t write about, at least not yet; someday I hope to be able to.

For Kara: :rose:

Time to 'get this girl home'

Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008

Parenting can feel like the loneliest task in the world. We do our best to maintain discipline and keep our children safe while allowing them just the freedom they need to explore and grow as they should.

But more often than not, we're provided with continual examples of how other parents are "better," either by allowing more freedom, as our children tell us; or by tightening the harness, as we hear from those who seem to have all the answers.

But those with all the answers have none for Rhonda Beckford and her husband, Jim, or for Mike Kopetsky, or for an entire community that shares the desperation of these parents who have, for the past 18 months, endured the anguish of the loss of now 18-year-old Kara Kopetsky.

They sent their little girl to school one May morning and haven't seen her since. They haven't had the opportunity to deal with her emotions, her curiosities, her joys and triumphs. They haven't felt her love in return in what seems an eternity.

Kara is now Belton's little girl. No longer do we shake our heads with sympathy and try in vain to guess a motive as we may have in those first few months.

We simply need to "get this girl home, now," as an anonymous donor said last week. That donor backed up that need with a $50,000 temporary addition to the reward fund that will hopefully spur someone to rack their brains again for faded memories of conversations that could yield some clue into our girl's disappearance.

Maybe that someone will finally pick up the phone and talk to someone – if not the authorities, then a friend, a teacher, a coach or even the newspaper.

And while the $50,000 is only money, it's really much more than that. It's a symbol that Kara is more than just her parents' girl. She's Belton's girl, Cass County's girl. We individually see our own children in Kara and we stand with her family in doing whatever it takes to "get this girl home."

Hi Maelstrom,

It's been so long since we have talked. I hope that this Holiday season finds you and your family healthy and happy. Please send my reguards to Sharon as well.
I am so happy to see that you are still following Kara's case.

I have fallen off the map, to say the least. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant with my first child, and have been staying off these types of boards most of the time. Not only am I much more busy these days, but I can't stomache the heartbreak like I used to. Perhaps, I feel a little guilty filling my mind with such horrible truths when I just want to be happy for my unborn little one.

However, I have never and will NEVER forget Kara or many of the other missing persons I have read about. My child is actually due on May 5th which is quite close to what would be Kara's 2 years missing anniversary. I pray daily that when that day comes, she will be home, safe and happy.

I did read about a rumor over at WS that the FBI had taken someone into custody concerning Kara's case. The rumor was supposedly posted on the wall at Facebook.com's Help Find Kara site. I was hoping you may know a little more about this.

Please let me know if you can elaborate. And take care.

Hi StillHoping,

Major congratulations. My God-daughter's older sister is just about to have her first child. It is a very special time in a woman’s life. I suspect nothing that has gone on before ever approaches that moment of wonder, fear, pride, and hope.

I have seen the post you referred to. It was sent to me a day or so ago in a PM. I don't know if there is any truth to it but I am trying to find out.

I do know that a number of people who should have been asked to take polygraph tests were not. Nor were they asked to go to the PD to give formal interviews, hopefully, if true, it is a sign of progress.

I have been going over the book I am attempting to write. Needless to say what I know about Kara’s case plays a part. But today I was writing a small part. It has nothing to do with Kara directly but I do feel it has a lot to do with people like you; people who care.

I call this section “Simon. The finder”

“Thank you for the information Detective Scott, have a good day.”

Simon put down the phone and started to cry. He could not help it; after all these years he finally knew who she was. She had been such a tiny thing and now he knew her name; Kelly McCarthy.

He had been hunting mushroom’s when he found her. It had been his partner Josh’s birthday and he was going to make him flank stack with a cream cognac sauce and wild mushroom’s for dinner. If he had not been looking so intently at the forest floor he would never have seen them.

Just a few bits of white, that’s what had caught his attention. At first he felt that it was garbage and he was going to pick it up and carry it to the trash bin that had been placed at the beginning of the path by the park service. But as he grew closer he realized what he had spotted were bones, the remains of a deer he figured, until he saw the top of a skull. He would learn later that animals had gotten to the body and scattered the remains. They were never able to find her jaw, were never able to get dentals. The crime scene investigators has searched the woods for days but in the end the police never found enough of her skull for a forensic artist to do a composite drawing.

Next to the bones what Simon remembered the most was her hair; it had been very long, and looked to be blonde.

Simon had become obsessed with finding out who she was. He had spent countless hours looking at case files on the Doe Network but had never come up with a match. A few times he felt he may have located her at Doe, a blonde haired girl that could have been her. He had called the state police with his hunch, but each time he had been wrong. Now he could finally put a picture, a face, to the bones he had found.

He went into the study, sat down at his computer and googled Kelly’s name. The search engine came up with about a dozen links. He looked up her name at the Charley Project and found out that Kelly had been listed as a runaway. The brief summary said that the police believed she had left of her own accord, may still be in Connecticut, or had possibly gone to New York city.

As he went down the page he saw that someone had created a MySpace page for Kelly. He clicked the link and there she was. Pictures of her as a baby, young girl, a teen. Pictures of her playing softball as well as a copy of her missing person flyer. As he scrolled down the page he saw that there were hundreds of comments from people on her friends list. The messages came from all over the country and in most cases the people did not seem to know Kelly personally. As he reached the bottom of the page Simon saw that her birthday had been a few weeks ago, if Kelly had still been alive she would have just turned 19.

One message caught his attention;

“Happy Birthday Kelly!

If you read this please call me. I still live on Poplar street. My number is still the same. Your parents love you and miss you, please come home. I will love you forever!

Best friends forever!
Tia”

Simon put his hands to his face and for a second time today he started to cry.

Josh walked in off the patio where he had been having coffee and smoking his morning cigar. He saw that Simon had been crying and wondered why.

“What up? Why are you crying?”

“They found out who she is.”

Josh did not need to be told who “she” was.

“Josh her name is Kelly come look, she was so young, so beautiful, so full of life”

Josh walked over and looked at the picture on the monitor, then gave Simon a hug. As he pulled up a second chair he looked at the smiling face of a young teen. Simon’s mystery girl had once been called Kelly and her hair was just as long and blonde as he had described it all those years ago. He reached over and put his hand on Simon’s, then he started to cry as well.”

Fantastic Maelstrom,

I would love to read your book when you are done. The small bit you wrote here (And another bit you wrote on another thread) kept me interested, for sure.

Please let me know if you hear or find out anything as to whether or not that rumor is true. It would do my heart some good to know that progress is being made in Kara's case.

Thanks so much for the kind words and thanks so much for keeping Kara's thread here updated. I always wonder if missing people read their threads. I'm sure some of them are not able, but someone out there may be missing and read what everyone has to say about or to them. So I guess on that note, I would like to say to Kara, If you are out there somewhere, and you read this. Call someone, call your mom or your dad, or a friend, and just tell them you are alive and okay. Even if you don't want to go home.

Have a blessed day Maelstrom and anyone else reading this.

Family Honors Birthday Of Missing Belton Teen
Kara Kopetsky Last Seen Leaving Belton High School In May 2007

POSTED: 9:03 pm CST February 17, 2009

BELTON, Mo. -- The family of Kara Kopetsky held a somber birthday celebration on Tuesday.

Kopetsky, who turned 19 this week, hasn't been seen since leaving Belton High School in May 2007.

A tree outside New Horizon's Church has been planted in her honor. Her family decorated it with butterflies and hearts.

Relatives said they're still hoping someone will come forward with information about Kopetsky's whereabouts.

"Today is her 19th birthday. We're still looking for Kara -- she's not home. Unlike other people who have birthdays to celebrate with cake, our birthday girl isn't here," said Rhonda Beckford, Kopetsky's mother.

The reward for information about Kopetsky's disappearance is $30,000.

Anyone with information in the case can call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hot line at 816-474-TIPS.

Some tidbits:
Kara had argued with one of her teachers before leaving school the day she disappeared. (This was previously unknown publicly, I believe).
Kylr is mentioned only briefly in the article and not mentioned by name.
Kara left her Debit card in her school locker, it contained a balance of $150.00 from her previous paycheck.
Kara's cell phone was not used after 10:30 AM the morning she disappeared. Several pings were checked into but nothing came of it.
(Am I mistaken in thinking that it was earlier said that Kara left her cellphone in her school locker?)

As I approach my unborn son's due date, I often think of Kara and the fact that she will have been missing for two years soon. From early on in this case, I felt that something happened to Kara, and as the years go by with no resolution and no word from her, that feeling deepens. Kara was considered an adult at 17 when she disappeared, and by any state's standards has now been an adult for some time now. And still, she hasn't called to tell anyone that she is safe, or that she has found a new life somewhere. She is still just gone without a trace. She left so much behind, all of her friends and family, a full carton of cigarette's, the money in her bank account and her new Ipod. What teen runs away and leave's all of that behind???

I'll always think of Kara and pray for her to be found safe, or for those who love her to get answers and closure.

Hi StillHoping,

The news about Kara arguing with a teacher is new, and possibly explains why she cut school that day. Kara's cell phone is missing also, and remember the call to her mother was not the only call she made that morning. She made at least 3 other’s; I have long felt that the answer to what happened to Kara can be found by fully investigating the other phone calls she made.

Walkers in Belton remember teen missing for two years

By EDWARD M. EVELD
The Kansas City Star

Another year, another anniversary, and still the haunting words: “Somebody knows something.”

Two years ago today, Kara Kopetsky disappeared. She was 17 years old at the time, 5 feet 5, 125 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair, and was last seen at Belton High School.

On Sunday afternoon, about 100 relatives and friends walked a one-mile stretch of Missouri 58, raising placards with Kopetsky’s name and those words: “Somebody knows something.”…”

Mojen,

Just curious, do you ever see Kara's missing person posters in Pleasant Hill? Maybe along East 175th Street.

My sister and I both live in Pleasant Hill. We are both cousins of Kara's. We also have a lot of gatherings at our homes where those w/ fliers on their vehicles are there. Thanks.

Welcome to this board, eahester, though I'm sorry it's such sad circumstances that brought you here. As you can probably tell from just glancing at the list of thread titles, there are many missing people. Yet I'm constantly amazed at how someone can disappear without a trace. I hope your cousin will be found.

I wasn't familiar with the details of her case and was just reading through the posts from the beginning. It seems to me that her ex-boyfriend would be a strong suspect if what the rumors posted about him trying to kidnap her are true. Does anyone who is familiar with the case know if he was ever ruled out as having been involved? Thanks.
