"Lisa Stebic's parents, Lawrence and Judith Ruttenberg, and her grandparents, Milton and Charlotte Ruttenberg, are fighting to gain visitation rights with the Stebics' two children, ages 11 and 13. As part of the petition filed in November, the Ruttenbergs have asked the court to appoint a counselor to meet with them and the children. Stebic has said he will allow her family to visit with the children under his supervision."

I despise this man! There is no reason that Lisa's parents shouldn't be able to see those kids and without him around. I hope a judge sees it that way to! The creep.

I keep hoping that Theresa will be found too. I wonder what the heck he did with her body???? He probably didn't think he would be arrested for her murder but surprise surprise Sam Parker! I hope he rots in prison and then burns in hell!

The POS is an idiot!!! He gave those interviews saying that he knew where she went, but he wasn't telling as she didn't want to be found. RIGHT!!! :flamemad:
Pesonally, I am thinking that he was setting things up for an insanity plea, if they ever decided to arrest him. Won't help, IMO, as someone who is "insane" at the time of the murder doesn't have the wherewithal to hide the body in such a place no one can find her. Someone who hides the body sure as heck knows between right and wrong. IMO

Why has the Floyd County District Attorney, Leigh Patterson not been moving on this case? What is the hold up? Ok so the bond was denied 4 months ago. Is there going to be a grand jury hearing? What is the court system waiting on? The longer this drags out who has the better chance of winning in court? Does the court system want public opinion to fade? If it is not the DA responible for the delay, then who is[/*]? Just how long can the court system hold a murder suspect without having a trial?
If you think about the Meredith Emmerson case Gary Hilton was in a court room the same month. Bobby Cutts and Jessie Davis case in Canton Ohio was expedited through the court system as well. Yes I do understand in both cases confessions were made but those court systems were not a case of "well, when ever we can get around to it we may try to do something ". :flamemad:

With all due respect, what has public opinion got to do with it? I thought that the vast majority of chnage of venues come about as a result of public opinion precluding the defendant from getting a fair trial.
I do, however, agree that it does seem strange that nothing has happened since his bond was denied.

Theresa Parker is not the type of person who misses work. So when she didn't show up for her shift as a 911 dispatcher on Sunday, March 25, her friends and family knew something was wrong.
Now the police officers who normally rely on Theresa's help as a veteran dispatcher are the ones trying to help her.
Police say Theresa's family worried when they didn't hear from her for several days. Theresa normally keeps in touch with her family, and the last person she talked to was her sister on Wednesday, March 21.
Investigators say Theresa and her husband, Samuel Parker, a LaFayette Police Officer, were in the process of separating. Around the time she disappeared, Samuel was staying with relatives while Theresa was staying in the home they had shared together. Police found her car at the home, but no sign of Theresa. There were no obvious signs of foul play at the home. Cops say Samuel Parker has been cooperative and isn't considered a suspect, although they have not ruled out any suspects as well.
A ground search conducted on March 27 and an aerial search on March 28 turned up nothing. Investigators have little to go on. All they know is that it is extremely unlike Theresa to just disappear without telling anyone, and they fear the worst.

Judge Lets In Some Proof For Sam Parker Trial, Denies Other
Judge Jon “Bo” Wood has ruled out evidence involving cadaver dogs for the upcoming murder trial of former LaFayette Police Sgt. Sam Parker.
However, he will allow testimony about officers going on the Parker property to check on the well-being of his estranged wife, Theresa.
Jury selection in the case in which Parker is charged with the slaying of Ms. Parker, who was a Walker County 911 dispatcher, begins Aug. 17 in Bartow County. The trial will be in LaFayette.

Theresa Parker seemingly vanished more than two years ago without a trace. Her husband Sam is accused of killing her despite no body and no evidence she's dead.
"When you don't have the body you don't have the best, single piece of evidence in a murder case," according to Thomas "Tad" DiBiase.
Dibiase was a federal homicide prosecutor for more than 12 years in the District Of Columbia who has spent the last five years researching so-called "no body murder cases."
The Parker murder case is only the seventh case known in Georgia where prosecutors have gone to trial without a body. DiBiase found the six previous Georgia cases span from 1949 to 2005. All but one in 2001 resulted in a conviction.

I also wonder if this will be televised... I wrote to CNN several times to strongly suggest :) that they do... High profile case right under their noses, they should show the trial...
I'll keep my fingers crossed. Should be a good trial to watch, esp. without a body. Just hope he doesn't pull a Hans Reiser and then AFTER he is convicted agrees to give up the body for a lesser sentence. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, that made me so mad!
Anyone that can, write to CNN requesting they try to get in this courtroom, that may help!

Chaffin said Sam told him he buried her in a “place that no one can find.”

I wonder if this will be televised.
I remember seeing a 2 part video of Sam where I think he was trying to set himself up for an insanity plea. My suspicions of him were only strengthened when he kept saying she took off because she embezzled some money--altho there was never a report of monies missing from anything she had to do with, that I read or heard. And that he wouldn't divulge where she went, because she didn't want to be found. Yeah, that's what everyone ever faced with being charged w/murder does--take the rap instead of revealing where the "missing" person is.
Thanks for the updates and links!!! I have wondered whatever was going on. I think the last I had heard was when he was arrested.

Why don't they just put Drew Person and Sam Parker in the same jail cell, since they both have a lot in common. I'm sure they would make great cell mates.

Jury May be Divided in
Parker Case
:scared: What???? How can anyone buy this monster's load of manure?
The foreman has indicated jurors are divided on the murder count - but agree on three lesser counts.
After two days of deliberations there is concern the trial may end in a hung jury.
Thanks for the update. Here's hoping it will be a guilty verdict.
My goodness, what in the world would they be divided over? Does he still maintain he knows where she is (alive) but isn't gonna tell to respect her privacy, and that she doesn't want to be arrested on the embezzlement charges he says she did? I never did read where there was any embezzlement @ her work, wonder why he would concoct such idiotic stories?
I guess a hung jury is better than acquittal--that is, if they retry him, AND keep in tucked away in jail whilst he awaits. There's still time for the naysayers to think things over and realize he is guilty, and vote accordingly.

Trial day 14: Jury returns to 4-8 split on Sam Parker murder charge
The trial is now in its 14th day, with jury deliberations in their fourth day. The jury, at the judge’s direction, is not saying whether the split is for “guilty” or “not guilty.”
Meanwhile the jury has reached verdicts on three other charges against Parker — computer invasion of privacy, giving false statements, and violation of oath of office.
The jury forewoman said jurors remain at 12-0 on these charges, but again without revealing whether the jury believes Parker is guilty or not guilty.
I'm absolutely floored that the jury would be split on the murder charge.

GUILTY
A criminal court jury on Thursday afternoon found former LaFayette Police sergeant Sam Parker guilty of murder.
He was sentenced to life in prison by Judge Jon "Bo" Wood.
Parker also received two concurrent five-year terms for violating his oath of office and giving a false statement.
He was found not guilty of computer invasion of privacy.

He was also found guilty Thursday of computer invasion of privacy and violation of oath of office. He was found not guilty of making false statements.
Not guilty of making false statements??? huh? He lied to LE about his involvement in Theresa's disappearance.
Just glad they convicted him on murder. Maybe now he'll grow a heart and tell what he did with her body so she can have a proper burial.

This article is from Chattanooga news and says he wasn't convicted of the computer charge:

So one of the news agencies messed up... hmmm.
Either way, I am so glad to hear GUILTY. I worried about a mistrial since the jury seemed to be having a hard time... Was he giving LWOP, or do they just call it "life" and it is a true "life" sentence?
Now, we all need to hope she is found so she can have a proper burial. RIP, Theresa... :rose:

Great news!!! And, yes, he DOES know where Teresa is--after all, he put her wherever she is. In his televised interview sometime ago, he admitted he knew where she is---he just tried to make it sound like she was still alive.
That would have been an interesting case to have watched. Looks like the defense was trying to throw the deputy friend under the bus.
