Age-Enhanced Image Of Leanna Warner Released

(WCCO) Chisholm, Minn. Authorities have released an age-enhanced image of Leanna Warner, a Chisholm, Minn. girl who has been missing for three years.

Warner, nicknamed "Beaner", was 5 years old when she was last seen near her house on June 14, 2003. Creating the image is one part science and two parts art. "We have a picture here, the original picture I worked from of Leanna," explained Steve Laughton with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Laughton and forensic imaging experts at the Center took a picture of then then-5-year-old Warner and changed it to resemble what she might look like now, three years later

Related Link To Her Web Site is on my web site with photo's,. i will also post any new information when it becomes availible.

Specialists cut, pasted, stretched and airbrushed the original photo to try to get the look of an older child. Specialists focused on the lower half of the face, where children change the most as they grow, Laughton said.

Experts said they have had some success with the pictures, drumming up interest in cases that otherwise seemed to have gone cold.

"You stand a better chance, really, recognizing or at least sparking recognition with the age progression," Laughton said.

Authorities will update the investigation at 1 p.m. in Chisholm.

Chisholm, Minn--Artists for law-enforcement agencies have released an age-enhanced image of Leanna Warner in hopes that it will help the public locate the Chisholm, Minn., girl, who disappeared three years ago when she was 5 years old.

The computer-drafted image was released today at a news conference in Chisholm attended by Chisholm police, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and members of the Warner family.Warner disappeared from her home in Chisholm on June 14, 2003. She went to visit a friend who she played with daily, but no one was home and Warner did not return to her own home.

No information about her whereabouts has been gathered despite a nationwide Amber alert and thousands of hours of searches in the area of the northern Minnesota town. Law enforcement agencies have followed more than 500 leads, but nothing has helped locate her or explain her disappearance.

Local and state authorities, however, have determined she was most likely abducted. Police ask anyone with information about the girl's whereabouts to call 218-254-7915.

CHISHOLM — The parents of Leanna Warner say their daughter was behaving strangely in the weeks leading up to her disappearance in 2003.

Leanna Warner's parents, Chris and Kaelin Warner, told the syndicated TV show "Maury," hosted by Maury Povich, that their daughter appeared one day with a case filled with Barbie dolls and their clothes, but would only say she'd gotten them from "a little old lady."

Their daughter, nicknamed "Beaner," also packed a suitcase a week before she vanished, saying she wanted to go live at her "new family's house," the mother said, according to excerpts released by the show, which was scheduled to air Wednesday.

And they say that two weeks before she disappeared, they found Leanna sleeping in the closet.

"She said there were monsters outside her window,'' Chris Warner told the Duluth News Tribune. ``I actually went out and looked, because you never know if there's a footprint out there. The second time, I said: 'They won't get you.' That was a real eye-opener. Our flags kind of went up at that time."

Leanna was 5 years old when she was last seen June 14, 2003, after walking over to a friend's house to play.

Police said the information was not new to them. Investigators looked into Leanna's behavior, but it didn't lead anywhere, Chisholm Police Chief Scott Erickson said.

Erickson said the parents had mentioned the Barbie dolls and suitcase, but there was nothing to indicate that an adult had used the toys to befriend or lure the child.

The Barbie dolls were considered such a minor lead that St. Louis County Sheriff Ross Litman said he doesn't even remember it. "It doesn't ring a bell with me," he said. "I don't think that's a lead of significant importance, because if it was, I would've heard about it."

Still, Erickson said, featuring the case on national TV probably can't hurt.

"Hopefully, she's alive and well somewhere. That's the best-case scenario. We've seen it before," Erickson said. "Keeping it alive in the public is important. It could inspire somebody to give us a call and turn this thing around."

What 5 year old girl has the knowledge of packing my bags ( child style) and leaving home with my new....anyone?

If my child came home with new toys - I want to know who gave them to you and I 'd make her lead me to the person.

Something is signalling a red flag on this story.

This whole thing doesn't make sense. It would seem that Leanna wasn't being suprivised (sp?) well if she could just show up with things and the parents had no idea where she got them. One would think that if the parents knew that some stranger was giving their child presents, that they would have watched out for her better. For LE not to think it was a significant lead makes me think that they think the parents are making up the story to divert attention away from them.

IMHO

He's such a devious b*****d that who knows what he has encryptyted in his laptop. I can't believe the FBI can't crack the code. I guess they's find a veritable treasure trove contained therein.

You may think this is strange. But I would never let my child being only 5 walk around by theirselves outside. Sometimes I think I am too protective. If she wanted to go to a friends house I would go with her. Not let her go alone. I'm even outside when she is outside. I don't trust anyone. You can't now days.

graybunny - I was thinking the exact same thing. My daughter is 8 and if she walks to the next door neighbors house I walk with her or at least stand outside and watch her walk there and make sure she gets inside. Our kids are never outside in our cul-de-sac without at least one adult out with them.

Part of this is news to me and very alarming

1. The child shows up with toys from a stranger.

2. The child packs a bag and states she is going to live with her new family.

3. The child complains of someone being outside watching her.

Each of these by themselves is a potential red flag. All three combined together certainly amounts to the family making sure she was not walking around the streets of her hometown unattended.

This does not add up in my mind.

I'm with you guys on this one and it is not strange, but if it we're, then I'll just be a strange Momma. In the world we live in today, there's no such thing as being too careful or overly protective. Better to be too cautious than to spend the rest of my life not knowing where my precious little one's remains (and I hate that word) lay or whom may be keeping them and doing God knows what. NO WAY, Jose! Some have called me paranoid and say I live in fear. Not true! I live with caution, and if that means sitting outside while my children play and going inside to meet a parent and check the place out, going as far to ask if they do drugs or what have ya', that's what I'm gonna' do. The way I look at it, not only is it protection, but also quality time spent with my girls, as far as outside playing. Sometimes I just wanna' take people and shake them and then stick their face up to the Missing and Exploited Children website and say, "This is reality!" "This is your future!" WAKE UP!!! Jo Layne
Still and forever praying that one day soon, precious little Beaner will be home. God speed!

Graybunny, I'm with you. My son is now 10 and only now will I allow him to start going down the street to play.

Do have a question though...

If my child came home with toys, wouldn't you get a name of a person who gave them to the child. Maybe a nice note to a new neighbor to say thank you? In other words, I'd want to know who gave my child a gift. Then again and again ( not the 1st time?)

Also, if my child packed her suitcase ( even in a childs way) and was off to move in with her new family, I would not take that as childs play

Not to be over analytical, but the tone of Beaners voice would indicate a game or realism.

Anyone from the area have any idea why these things did not immediately ring a bell
Have the parents passed lie dection or had any.

Any predators in the area

and yes, Leanne -After Shasta and Dylan and the whole Groene tragedy, I too thought Jet Duncan was traveling through

I just got done reading more articles of what happened to the Groene children and I am still cringing

May someone find something to bring Beaner home

I'm actually starting to wonder if a family felt sorry for Leanna and took her to give her a better life. (their perception of a better life, of course.)

If she was receiving gifts and talking about going with a family, it's not that far fetched.

The neighbors interviewed were tactful in their word choices, but indicated under no uncertain terms that Leanna was often seen out and about by herself.

This scenario gives me hope that the little sweetie is still alive and well.

A RED FLAG,a large red flag would come up if my daughter brought home toys and started packing to leave. You know how children are sometimes they bring things home and say that someone gave it to them and come to find out they didn't. So I would diffently ask the person or persons who gave my child something if it was a gift. I get so mad about how some people just don't seem to care. 5 years old walking around going from house to house. MY god sometimes I think that before a person should be able to have a child that they shoud be screened. My heart drops everytime I hear of a child missing, your right Jolayne if they would only read about all the heart ache and the pervs out there maybe they would have a reality check.

I wonder if they dusted that barbie doll case for prints.

I wonder if there really is a barbie doll case.

These toys and this story may not be key to the case, but I believe it's either

a) key to solving the case

or

b) key to a lie being told so the case can't be solved

I hate to say this, but the people that I think need to talk right now are the parents.

Fess up with the truth. Find out where those barbies came from.

I'm still in disbelief that after having a child bring home strange toys, having a child pack her bags to leave, and having a child frightened in a closet about strangers outside her window, that she was allowed to walk anywhere alone.

That does not ring true somehow.
