As for authorities, Bellefonte Police Detective Matthew Rickard said, “This information is very important to the investigation. It, in and of itself, focuses on the possibility of walkaway or suicide. However, it certainly does not eliminate the possibility of homicide.”

At first, police didn't think Gricar's failure to return home was too alarming, officers said.

Cpl. Dan Holliday called the chief about an hour after Gricar's girlfriend and housemate, Patty Fornicola, called to report the prosecutor missing. Dixon told Holliday to send a message to local law enforcement agencies and said he'd call for an update the next morning.

Officer Darrel Zaccagni, one of two investigators on the case, said he first heard about Gricar's disappearance when he got to work Saturday morning. He said he thought little of it, figuring that maybe "Ray was off doing something, that he just didn't come home for whatever reason."


Gricar was the chief law enforcement office in the county...having prosecuted numerous criminals.

Patty waited until 11:30pm to phone police when he hadn't come home. Holliday then waited til after midnight before he phoned Dixon. And per the statement above - "police didn't think Gricar's failure to return home was too alarming."

Did Patty give them the impression that it wasn't alarming or serious? We've been told she was frantically calling his cellphone over & over, that she phoned her brother, etc. Wouldn't you think that *she* would have let police know how concerned *she* was?

Why was RG's absence not looked at as suspicious from the get-go? (At that early stage, his previous Cleveland trip wasn't a factor known by police.)
