Search scheduled for missing women
Updated: July 23 2004
A ground search will take place Saturday morning for Joanna Rogers and Jennifer Wilkerson who were both recently reported missing.
The search will be conducted at 8 a.m., by the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office in coordination with United Response Search and Rescue.
United Response conducted a search in Lubbock for Joanna Rogers in May.
Registration for the search will be in the parking lot of Lubbock-Cooper High School, located on Woodrow Road, west of U.S. 87.
Volunteers will need to bring their own water and container, sunscreen, hat, long pants and footwear appropriate for rugged terrain. The Sheriff's Office and the search and rescue team ask that volunteers be over the age of 16 and in good physical health.
They also ask that no dogs be allowed, due to specialty animals on the premises. Volunteers with horses are welcome.
The Sheriff's Office is checking specifically for the Wilkerson case, but are also pursuing any information that has developed involving the Rogers case, according to Sgt. Greg Parrott.
"At this time there is no information that the two incidents are related," Parrott said.
Wilkerson, 26, was last seen on the morning of July 13 in the 2400 block of 118th Street. She is considered slim, 5 feet 5 inches tall, with short brown hair that has a red tint. She has several tattoos.
"Due to the amount of time since her disappearance, we are growing concerned that she may be somewhere held against her will," Parrott said.
Rogers, 16, disappeared May 4 and the Sheriff's Office issued an Amber Alert on May 6. She is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 125 pounds and has long red hair. A $15,000 reward is being offered for information leading to her return.
To report information on whereabouts of Wilkerson or Rogers, call (806) 775-1061.

Extensive search fails to find missing women
BY KELLIE TOLBERT
AVALANCHE-JOURNAL
The search for Jennifer Wilkerson and Joanna Rogers on Saturday did not uncover any new information but did cover a vast area of Lubbock.
The United Response Search and Rescue Team, the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office and many volunteers from throughout Lubbock searched the southern part of Lubbock County and some parts of the city.
Close to 200 volunteers lent their time and effort to the search for Joanna, 16, and Wilkerson, 26, according to Dana Ames, director of operations for the search team.
"We sent large teams into grocery stores, gas stations and places where kids hang out to hand out fliers of both girls," Ames said.
The search on Saturday covered more area than a May search for Joanna, Ames said.
The search team and the Sheriff's Office will continue their search on Sunday but without public volunteers.
"We will continue to apply pressure into the right places and the public volunteers will stay in touch with us and keep a look out for the missing girls," Ames said.
Ames said she believes the Sheriff's Office will not quit until they find Wilkerson and Joanna. Officials said there is no information at this time to indicate that the two incidents are related.
Sgt. Greg Parrott, of the Sheriff's Office, said the reward for information leading to the return of Wilkerson equals about $6,000 so far.
Wilkerson has been missing since July 13. She is slim, 5 feet 5 inches tall, with short brown hair that has a red tint. She has several tattoos.
Joanna has been missing since May 4 with an Amber Alert issued on May 6. She is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 125 pounds and has long red hair. A $15,000 reward is being offered for information leading to her return.
To report information on the whereabouts of Wilkerson or Joanna, call (806) 775-1601.

Amid the agony, parents cling to hope
BY JASON WOMACK
AVALANCHE-JOURNAL
Jack Wilkerson's favorite picture of his daughter Jennifer now adorns the hundreds of white paper fliers that dot the windows of truck stops, gas stations and restaurants in Lubbock and along highways that feed into the city. Emblazoned above the image is one word: missing.
The photograph shows his daughter, now 26, peering out from under a hood in the dim twilight hours of a Colorado evening. She balls her fists and holds them close to her face to fight off the cold. Although she is shrouded in white, her smile is the brightest thing in the picture.
Jennifer Wilkerson Her parents have not seen that smile or heard her voice since she vanished from her south Lubbock County home more than three months ago.
Jennifer Wilkerson's July 13 disappearance sparked the second missing person investigation by the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office in a year. Joanna Rogers, 17, also vanished from her family's home May 4.
"This is Lubbock. This isn't Dallas, Houston or Austin. We've had two girls disappear in 10 weeks," Joanna's father, Joe Bill Rogers said. "That shakes the community."
The disappearances of Jennifer and Joanna have sparked f ruitless foot searches of the areas surrounding the homes of both women. The Sheriff's Office, working with a team of forensic divers, even searched Buffalo Springs Lake to no avail.
Despite significant rewards being offered for information leading to the return of the women, the investigations have yet to turn up any solid information leading to their locations, said Sgt. Greg Parrott with the Sheriff's Office.
Parrott, who supervises both investigations, spends every hour of his workday in a concentrated effort to find the women.
"We've taken extraordinary measures to follow up on every lead and even the slightest hunch," he said. "We do feel these cases will be solved, and they will be solved soon."
The Sheriff's Office does not believe the disappearances are related.
The parents of both women said the Sheriff's Office is doing everything it can to locate their daughters. As the search for the women continues, the families are growing desperate for information and struggling to answer the questions that haunt their thoughts.
The Wilkersons live moment to moment. They continue to go to work and live their lives. However, every reminder of their daughter can summon a flood of emotion.
"I can't drive by a softball game without seeing her slide into third base," Jack Wilkerson said.
He and his daughter shared a love of books and music. During her visits to the Wilkersons' home in Hobbs, N.M., they would retreat to his library to play songs for one another.
During lightning storms, they would head to the country to listen to music and watch the flashes of light streak across the New Mexico sky.
"She is also my best friend," he said of his daughter, who he described as fiercely independent.
Jennifer is always in her parents' thoughts. She enters their minds in the morning and she's with them when they fall asleep.
"It's like a nightmare you can't wake up from" said Vikki Wilkerson, Jennifer's mother.
Vikki Wilkerson's most difficult days are Tuesdays, the day her daughter disappeared. She struggles through the others.
"I think I'm walking insanity," she said.
At times she feels fine, but a conversation or memory can destroy her. She remembers a talk with a co-worker where she inadvertently began imitating her daughter's "little heh heh heh" laugh. She fell apart, moving from laughter to tears.
Common rituals try both families. Trips to the grocery store are now complicated endeavors.
Vikki Wilkerson said she tells people she is "fine."
"But we won't be fine until Jennifer comes home," she said.
Joanna's mother, Kathryn Rogers, says people now withdraw from her family.
"We're a constant reminder that life is not always good or fair," she said.
She said they rarely go to restaurants or even watch television.
Both families pray for their daughters to return safely.
"All I have to hold on to is my faith, and until somebody gives me something else, I'm going to hold onto that," Jack Wilkerson said.

Lubbock Sheriff's Office Continues Search For Missing Women
www.kcbd.com
Saturday marks six months since an Amber Alert was issued for a Lubbock teenager.
Information about Joanna Rodgers continues to trickle into the Lubbock Sheriff's Department. So far, they say there are no legitimate leads. The now 17-year-old is 5-feet, 5-inches tall and has red hair and hazel eyes.
Deputies also have no leads in the July disappearance of Jennifer Wilkerson. The 26-year-old is 5-feet, 5-inches tall with brownish red hair, blue eyes and several tattoos.
Call the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office at (806) 775-1601 if you have any information on either disappearance.

It's been almost six months since the disappearance of 27 year-old Jennifer Lynn Wilkerson. Since then the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department has followed several leads that have all come to a dead end. Saturday, one lead brought them to a piece of property in Northwest Lubbock. The search began early this morning, members of the Sheriff's department found no evidence that could be linked to the disappearance of Wilkerson, but still Sergeant Greg Parrott says they are getting closer each day.
"Every day we receive something, something new something different that leads us in hopefully a positive direction and we feel that we are going to have resolution in this case very soon," says Sgt. Parrott.
It was through witness interviews the Sheriff's Department decided to search this field in Northwest Lubbock on Saturday. It was a search that like the previous ones came to a dead end. Still Sgt. Parrott remains positive.
"We've come out to several of those locations and have been conducting searches of those areas. If nothing else we've been able to rule out some properties," says Sgt. Parrott.
In the meantime friends and family wait for Wilkerson's return or for at least a sense of closure.
"It's just weird nothing nothing fits together. Once things start fitting together then something else comes up that just makes it all, it's just crazy," says Jessica Bullock, Wilkerson's roommate.
Bullock says Wilkerson was the type to drop everything when she knew a friend needed help.
"If I was having a problem, she would make me laugh and if she was having a problem I'd make her laugh and hearing her laugh would make me laugh. I wish she'd come back," says Bullock.
Bullock says the circumstances surrounding Wilkerson's disappearance is what is most peculiar. Wilkerson left her purse, wallet, cell phone and house keys. In fact not a single one of her things vanished along with her.
"She was getting paid the next day she never picked up her paycheck. Just everything that she would have done she didn't do," says Bullock.
Bullock believes that somehow, somewhere Wilkerson left a clue.
"Her favorite show was CSI so if anything happened to her she'll do something for us to find her. I mean it's Jennifer something will come up she's smart enough," says Bullock.
For now all friends and family can do is pray and wait, while the sheriff's department works to discover the clue that many believe Wilkerson could have left behind.
If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Jennifer Lynn Wilkerson, you're encouraged to call the Sheriff's Office at 775-1601 . All callers will remain anonymous

Jen has been missing now for 9 months the 13th of this month and so far there has been no news as to what has happened. The Sheriff's department continues to follow every little lead that comes their way. Dana and Sheila with the United Response and Rescue team are also continuing to follow leads. These two groups of people have been wonderful and diligent in their efforts to bring Jen home. It has made the most difficult time in our lives bearable, knowing that such good people are on our side and doing everything in their power to bring our daughter home to us. July 13th will mark one year since Jennifer's disappearance. Her best friend, Jessica wrote this and said I could share it with you. Please remember Jennifer and her family on this difficult anniversary.
"I can't beleive that it is going to be a year in just a week that Jennifer has been gone from our lives. I really miss her and constantly think about her daily. There isn't a moment that goes by that I don't think about a special memory or see something that reminds me of her. I still have the same dream that she walks in the front door like usual and has a big smile on her face, I run up to her and give her a big hug.
I am still praying for her and her family. I know that they are still optimistic about this as well as I am. She is my best friend and the dearest to my heart. No one got along better together as roomates as we did. We always used to laugh about how in the future we would still be living together until we are old and wrinkled just like "Romy and Michelle" (but without all the Girl-ly involved-any one that knew her knows what i am talking about!).
One of her many favorite things are ladybugs, so everytime you see one, whether it be a bug, purse, shirt, or a car, make a wish, say a prayer, or just simply keep her in your thoughts and hearts like her family and I do. To everyone out there, please keep praying for her and her family as well as all the other beloved family members and friends that have been missing. This is such a struggle and heart ache to have a close family member or friend just vanish and every prayer and thought is really appreciated. All my love possible to Vikki and Jack.

Search Continues For Missing Lubbock Woman One Year After Disappearance
Posted July 13, 2005
One year ago, Lubbock resident Jennifer Wilkerson went missing. Authorities say they are waiting for the right person to come forward with new information. They continue following leads but Lubbock Sheriff's Deputies don't have much more information.
On July 13th of 2004, Jennifer left a friends house to get ready for work, and never showed up. Jennifer's car was parked at her house and her car keys were inside the locked house, but Jennifer and her purse were gone. Authorities talked to people close to Jennifer and continue to stay in touch with her family in Hobbs, but they still don't know what happened that day.
"We follow up on every piece of information that we get. You know one of these pieces is eventually going to lead us to Jennifer or to someone who is going to help us locate Jennifer. There are some people that we are interested in talking to, and we just need to locate those people see what information they can give us." said Lt. Cody Scott with the Lubbock Sheriff's Department.
Jennifer was 26 when she went missing. She stands about 5-feet 5-inches tall with a small build. She has brown hair and blue eyes. If you have any information, call the Lubbock Sheriff's Department at 775-1601, you can remain anonymous.
As for Jennifer's family, Lt. Scott says they are still hopeful to find Jennifer and are coping as best they can.

A NOTE FROM JENNIFER'S DAD:
Today makes one year since I received a call from Jen's roommate wanting to know if she were in Hobbs, or if we had heard from her. This is an anniversary we had hoped and prayed not to see, and are hopeful that there will be no more.
While there are still leads coming in and being investigated, there is nothing new or concrete that we can report at this time. We spent yesterday going through and organizing her things, and watching videos of her.
Her Mother found a quote Jen kept next to her computer I think says much about the type of person Jen is: "Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened." In that spirit, we ask that all of you who know her, take some time to remember a special moment of memory you had with her, and reflect on that.
Once again, we want to let each of you know how much the love and support we have received has meant to us. "

Deputies Find Hand In Yellowhouse Canyon
Lubbock County sheriff`s officials found a human hand in the area of Yellowhouse Canyon where other remains were found last week.
Last Thursday, two passers-by found a human skull off of FM 835 near the Slaton Highway. Then on Friday, sheriff`s officials found what they believe to be the remains from the rest of the body, lying about 10 feet away from where the skull was found.
"We need to know cause of death," says Lubbock County Sheriff David Gutierrez. "We need to know if (this person`s) death was at the scene, or if it was somewhere else. There`s a lot of information that we have not found yet."
Many questions remain unanswered in the case of human remains found in Yellowhouse Canyon last week. But Tuesday, officials got one more clue: a human hand found at the scene.
"We`re always looking and I think they found some additional items from the body, but there is still no conclusion from the autopsy," says Sheriff Gutierrez.
The medical examiner`s office started that autopsy on Saturday. Now, they`re waiting for an anthropologist to help examine the bones. They expect to have preliminary results before the end of the week.
In the meantime, officials are looking at every piece of evidence found at the scene for clues about the victim`s identity.
"There was one piece of clothing that is primarily worn by males, but in this day and age, you never know," says Gutierrez. "Male and females wear sometimes the same clothing."
"The clothing will give a lot of information about whether it`s an adult or child," says Corporal John Gonzalez, with the Texas Department of Public Safety. "Hopefully (that piece of evidence) is still intact."
Something else officials say might help them solve this case is DPS` state-wide Missing Person`s Database. Corporal Gonzalez says aside from looking into the 2004 disappearances of Joanna Rogers and Jennifer Wilkerson, two Lubbock County women missing since 2004, they`re also searching the state`s records for other cases.
"We hold that information and dispurse it out to other agencies so that way, people will be on the lookout," he says.
"I know the investigative division has already pulled up some names that had been reported missing over the last three or four years and are looking at those," says Gutierrez.
The sheriff`s office is treating the area where the bones were found as a crime scene. The area will be secured until the autopsy is complete.

Skeletal Remains Found in Kent County
Lubbock Tx local paper says......
Investigators are trying to identify a new set of skeletal remains. Kent County sheriff's deputies made the discovery in the northeast portion of Kent County on Friday. A tip given last Monday led them to the site. The remains are believed to be female and are now in custody of the Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office. Both Kent County Sheriff's Department and the Texas Rangers are investigating.
There are currently no missing persons cases in Kent County. However there are still two outstanding missing person cases in Lubbock. Both Joanna Rogers and Jennifer Wilkerson have been missing since the summer of 2004. Again, the remains have yet to be identified.

Volunteers Say They're Ready To Search City Landfill
Posted: 6/8/06
A search of the Lubbock City Landfill would take a lot of time, and a lot of man power. It would also be an expensive process. Volunteer members of United Response Search and Rescue out of Dallas say they are ready to help. The group has done a lot of research into how a landfill search would work. Director and Co-Founder Dana Ames says she doesn't know if local law enforcement will for sure search the Lubbock landfill, but she says volunteers are ready.
"A landfill search is a very difficult, tedious, time consuming, expensive process. It's one that you don't enter into lightly. It is extremely dangerous for all individuals who would participate in that," said Ames. Ames says searchers would need to wear protective garments that can cost a lot of money. The search group is looking into possible fund raisers, or people who could donate that gear.
While the search centers around Joanna Rogers, Ames says their search group always looks for Jennifer Wilkerson as well. The Lubbock woman disappeared on July 13th of 2004. Ames says when ever they are on a search, or receive a tip, the group treats that information as if it could be used to find both missing girls. Ames says the Wilkerson family's hearts goes out to the Rogers family. "They have mixed emotions as well. Their hearts are absolutely broken for the Rogers. In a way they feel a sense of resolve as well for them, but then that also comes back and instills that further fear that they face every day knowing this could be the same fate for their child," said Ames.
If you have any information on either of these cases that would be helpful to police, call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000.
It's been almost a year since investigators searched the city landfill following the discovery of Summer Baldwin's body. John Cobb at the Lubbock City Landfill tells NewsChannel 11 that after Baldwin was discovered, crews decided to stop dumping in that area. Cobb says it wasn't a legal request; he says they did it because they thought they should.

My cousin, Jennifer Wilkerson, has been missing since July 13, 2004. She dissappeared from her Lubbock, Texas, home, under suspicious circumstances. Although I never really got a chance to get to know her very well, her parents mean a lot to me, and are really suffering right now. I am doing all I can think of to do, which is mostly a lot of praying, and a little amateur investigative work.
One thing that I have noticed while looking into other missing young women (around 20-30 years old) that dissappeared in the last 15 years, is that a large number (nearly half) of them have a tattoo of a rose. Most of those that have a rose tattoo have it on their wrist or ankle, or someplace where it would have been visible in the clothes they dissappeared in.
It seems to me that the number is too high to be mere chance. I have compiled a list of 23 young women whose descriptions contain a rose tattoo and are in that age group, but I have not finished gathering information.
I would like to hear some opinions about this- am I right that this bears investigating? Am I wasting time?
I wish I could provide a link to Jennifer's website, but I don't know how. Sorry. You can always google her.

I'm not positive, but I think it was just that her car was there, her keys were there, etc. One of her roomates called her dad when her work called looking for her, I think. There is more information on KCBD- NewsChannel 11 in Lubbock, and even a recent update on the search, but I really don't think her case is related to the other two.

The abductor would have had to known all these women had one and escaped the eye of le over and over again, while continueing to abduct over and over. There has to be something that is overlooked here, jenn had alot of tatoos, what tatoo shop did she have work done? That group of people who hung out at the tatoo shop, anyone come up missing? anyone ever suspected of kidnapping or murder? Maybe you are right, the rose holds the key,but not to other abductions, maybe just to jenn, I would begin looking at people who enjoyed her hobbies and interests. Good luck:rose:

I talked to my mom and she says no, Jennifer only lived in Hobbs, New Mexico and Lubbock, Texas.
One of the properties searched by LE and (I think) Equusearch, near Reese technology center southwest of Lubbock, appears, according to public record, to contain at least three irrigation ponds. One is maintained by the city and the other two, if I understand this correctly, are maintained by Dekalb Swine Breeding. I have no idea how deep they are, but it seems to me that if you're going to search an area for a body, you start with the most likely hiding place.
Perhaps it's just my frustration talking, but there's a pretty big difference between a search and a perfunctory glance at the lay of the land.
When Lubbock LE found out what it would cost them to search the landfill for Joanna Rogers, they balked at the sum, saying "We have to look...at how we can explain to our citizens on spending that kind of money on one incident" -Commisioner Patty Jones, [KCBD Newschannel 11].
Perhaps she's a tiny bit right- we do expect our politicians to explain what they think they are doing when they spend millions of taxpayer dollars on private family vacations in Bermuda and hookers, and things of that nature, and spending "three to five million dollars" on the search of that landfill would definitely be something that would require an explanation. If I were her, I'd start with "we will spare no reasonable expense in finding this prescious child for the sake of her parents and for the sake of protecting all of our citizens from murderers by finding all of the evidence neccessary to ensure that her killer never ever walks in a public place again." and I would end by saying "by reasonable expense I mean that we are looking into more cost-effective means of conducting this search and are setting up an e-mail address as a forum for suggestions." Whereupon my other personality would send an e-mail suggesting that, for a little bit of kibble, a cadaver dog on a suspended platform traversing the area in a grid pattern may be able to give them a hint as to where to start. Why have we not yet invented a robotic cadaver dog? The technology is out there!

Even though I agree with you, That statement does not fill a polititions bank account come election time.
Although I agree it is a justified cause, I can't see how tax payers can afford that expence as our cost of living rises, our schools are in jepordey and our police and firefighters are being laid off indefinatly on a daily basis.
While I agree you have a good point on the rose tat's, I don't believe there is a "rose tattoo serial killer" out there. I just think it is an extremly popular tattoo due to it's beauty.
I wish you and your family the best of luck.

I also mentioned finding a less expensive method of searching. That amount of money seems exorbitant to me- There are so many people willing to volunteer, and I wasn't kidding about robotic cadaver dogs, or moles that could distinguish between that bacteria around cadavers and that which prefers garbage, or even X-ray technology, or looks for calcium in certain quantities.
Surely there is a scientist somewhere who is between projects right now? If we can see a person from space, why can we not find a body in thirty feet of trash?
It doesn't have to cost that much- they just have to find a much less expensive method of searching than going through with golden shovels and using caviar as bait. IMO- It's not likely to be a politician that comes up with this less extravagant plan. They'll have to ask someone who truly understands budgeting with nothing.

NEWS AND INFO
Update Thursday, August 11th - Funds have been secured to undertake the landfill search. The Avalanche Journal and www.kcbd.com both have coverage, and we expect information on NewsRadio 1420 and www.klbk.com also. Governor Perry authorized the release of $100,000 from a state fund set aside to assist counties at the request of Sheriff Gutierrez. The latest revised estimate for the total cost of excavating the specific area where Joanna could be is $74,000. From the KCBD story:
This update came from Joanna Roger's website. You may remember Joanna is the 16 year old who dissappeared from Lubbock a couple of weeks before Jennifer.

I just realized how negative I sound on this board. I guess I forgot to mention that I believe Jennifer is alive, and really hope that this is just one of those situations where she just did what she had to do. There are so many reasons for a person to dissappear. I also believe, though, that if you really want to find someone, you have to be open to the possibility that something happened to them, and frankly, the fact that she hasn't contacted her parents doesn't bode well for the neverending optimism that keeps me going. With my daughter and my cousin both missing, sometimes it's pretty hard to be optimistic all the time.
Lsleymays, I didn't realize your daughter was missing. That is heartbreaking.
What is the consent of Jennifer's family...that she is still alive or otherwise?
"consent" should read "consensus"...sorry

There are feelings on both sides of that question in the family, and in each individual. We are all hopeful that she is alive, but we are all also sure that if she were, she would have contacted her parents or one of her sisters by now. The circumstances surrounding her dissappearance point to an abduction, but even abductions don't always end badly.
I'm sorry I can't give you a more clear answer to your question, but I guess there isn't one.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my mom told me that it was Gov. Rick Perry that put up the money to continue the search for the missing teen that was swept away by flooding in 1987 in the Guadalupe River near Comfort, Texas. The boy still remains missing. I cannot find a photo or missing persons link for him, but I do know that the remains of an unidentified man we're found there a while back and we're ruled out as the Texas teen.
My personal opinion, I will gladly pay more taxes if it means making money available to aid in these landfill or other such type searches. Families NEED answers. I know I did. Imagine how a family feels when they are told, "I'm sorry, but we've suspended the search." How helpless they must feel. Begging for someone to help, someone to come forward to help in continuing the search. How it must feel to walk away and leave your precious child behind.
As a side note, there are millionaires out there that have nothing better to do but throw away there money. I personally think we need to start contacting these persons to donate money to this most important of causes. I mean, after all, what if it we're their child? or worse, yours!
I believe that boy may have gotten pulled under and is lying there tangled up in the underwater brush and trees. He needs to be brought home for a proper burial and put his parents sorrow to and end, so that he can finally rest in peace.
Below is a short link and article to the father's sorrowful ending to his precious son's search:

''It's time to go home,'' Mr. Bankston said Sunday. ''But it breaks our heart to have to leave him.''
His son, John Bankston Jr., 17 years old, was among 43 people aboard two buses from the Seagoville Road Baptist Church in Balch Springs, south of Dallas, that were trapped in the Guadalupe River on July 17 in its worst flood in 55 years. The youth was last seen helping others to safety.
Ten teen-agers were swept away by the water. Nine bodies were recovered, and 33 people were rescued.

Shame, imagine knowing that the landfill is being dug up to find your daughter's body. I would also not get my hopes up. If one of my kids was killed, I think it would make me even madder if their body was dumped somewhere that it would ultimately end up in a landfill alrhough maybe at this point they need a resolution no matter how or where. I wish they (LE) would go back and re-question the roommates and boyfriend in this case. It has been so long since there has been any new information in this case, but in the beginning there were a lot of mentionings of people that knew more than they were saying, and items of interest. There was a lot of talk of things that were going to require further examination-but nothing ever came of any of it. Where is all of the information that was going to come out after they examined the evidence found on the property they searched? It seems like LE just lost interest. I understand that there are other cases and other missing people to worry about, but can't they at least investigate the few tidbits of information that they said they would?

UPDATE: Saturday, September 2nd - The following article is excerpted from today's edition of the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. The weather has not been cooperating with officials searching the Lubbock landfill for any trace of Joanna Rogers. Rain is forecast for the area for this weekend.
Phase one of sheriff's hunt at landfill not yet complete. Lubbock County Sheriff's deputies said phase one of the excavation of the city-owned landfill is taking longer than expected. A contractor continues to move about 500 truckloads of dirt and debris each day during the search for the body of 16-year-old Joanna Rogers, who has been missing since 2004. Workers have been at the landfill from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day and putting in extra time on the weekends to keep the search on track, said Capt. Don Carter. But the search schedule continues to fluctuate because of slight weather delays and the nature of the work.
Phase two of the search was expected to begin Tuesday, but now may not start until Wednesday, Carter said. During phase two of the search, deputies will use rakes to sift through less than one foot of dirt and debris. Investigators believe Joanna may be buried at the landfill, possibly in a suitcase, after linking her disappearance last year to Rosendo Rodriguez III, 26. Rodriguez pleaded guilty in connection with the death of Summer Baldwin, 29. Baldwin's body was found in a suitcase at the landfill, which is near Abernathy.
**Joanna's and Jennifer's cases have been linked together simply because they occurred in the same place within a couple of weeks of each other. Rosendo Rodriguez, who confessed to killing Joanna Rogers, is not suspected in Jennifer's dissappearance as there is no information connecting them, although anything's possible.
jolayne1963
09-05-2006, 01:27 PM
Okay, I wonder just how many suitcases this loser has gone through or bought. I'm assuming if Summer was found in a suitcase and LE suspects Joanna may be in one, seems to me (if it hasn't already been done), that they need to be looking around for places he may have bought suitcases at. Could it be he bought them at the same place? Have they checked his credit card purchases or shown his picture to places that one particular suitcase (Summer) may have been purchased at? God forbid if they find more than one out there in that landfill!
I don't think I'd want to get my hopes up, either, thus setting myself up for a fall if LE finds nothing. But, I do pray to God that if JoAnn or Jennifer are out there, that the searchers will find them.

Someone out there has taken away two years of being able to enjoy the presence of our daughter. You know who you are and you know why Jennifer has vanished. Be very aware that we will some day have all the answers. If you have harmed Jennifer in any way, we don’t have to threaten you with justice. Someone bigger than all of us knows what you have done and is watching you! The justice you will receive will far out weigh any justice you might receive on this earth.
To all the wonderful people that have given their support, love, and prayers, we have nothing new to share with you. We are left at present to try and hold close to our hearts and minds memories we have of our daughter. Her smile, her silly little laugh, her fiery spirit, her ever lasting love for her family, and our love for her. I miss her visits, her insights, her passion for life, her adventures, and the list could go on and on!
Our prayers will be answered and some day we will be reunited with our daughter, whether in this life or beyond. I want to thank everyone for their continued love and support. You have helped me confirm in my heart, that there is far more good, than bad in this world and that in our darkest hours, we are never alone.
Love you all,

Do you know anything about the boyfriend that Jennifer had? He said that she left his place but is there anyone that could alibi that? Heck, she could have left and he could have been right behind her as far as that goes. What kind of relationship history did they have? Fighting or anything like that? Did she have any ex-husbands or ex-boyfriends that may have carried a grudge?
It just seems kind of odd that she would arrive at home and go inside and hang her keys up and then she is gone. No signs of any struggle? Sounds to me like it was someone that she knew. I wonder if her roommates had boyfriends? Could one have been at their place when Jennifer arrived? I take it the roommates were gone when Jennifer arrived. Were the roommates all females by any chance or maybe a male thrown in?
I know it is important for your sanity to hold on to hope as long as possible but when you know the person...like Jennifer's family know her...you know if your daughter would have just left never to return or call anyone. Some daughters would do that and some would never do it. I think as the more time that goes by the harder it would be to hold on to hope. Especially if your daughter was close to you and had no reason to pick up and leave. That has to be so hard not to know anything. My imagination would drive me crazy.
Is your daughter still missing? How old is she and how long has she been gone? How awful for your family. Prayers that you find her if she is still gone.

I think one of the roomates was a male, but I'm not positive. I haven't read anything about them ever re-questioning the roomates or the boyfriend. It sounds like they believed them about their stories.
I found my daughter living with a whole slew of teenage runaways in downtown Denver. I had no idea there were so many. They said I was the first parent to ever come there looking for her child. I find that hard to believe, although I am starting to see a different side to everything. I believe that parenting is an 18 year commitment no matter how hard it gets, and I'm having a really hard time reconciling myself with the fact that my husband of 15 years believes otherwise and so does my daughter. They both believe I should stop dragging her home to try again. I agree that it's very disruptive to the family, but what choice do I have? She's going to get herself killed down there and she doesn't even care.

Theoretically, it is an 18 year commitment but, in truth, it doesn't matter how old they are. They remain your children, to love and protect, forever. At least you can have a clear conscience that you have fulfilled your commitment to your daughter. I think your husband is using excuses to make himself feel better.
I truly wish the police would re-interview the boyfriend and roommates.
Will keep you and Jennifer in my prayers. :rose:

do you think it was the same guy that got Joanna Rogers

No- but there were some people that thought there might be a connection. I just have a feeling that the circumstances were too different. There was evidence that Joanna Rogers met Rosendo Rodriguez online, but Jenn's computer didn't show any sign of him. Also, Joanna was younger (16, I think) and as far as I know, pedophiles have no interest in adults.
I think that whatever happened to Jenn, someone knows something, and either they don't realize that it's important, or they are afraid to talk. I also still have hope that she's alive. I can't imagine what would keep her from her family, but I can't let go of that feeling. It just feels different from a murder case- there's too little evidence, (it's practically sterile) and no body after 3 years. I know that sounds silly, because murderers hide bodies and clean up the evidence, but they always seem to be just stupid enough to overlook something. It's just a feeling.

I have just read the entire thread for the first time, I had not heard of Jennifer or Joanna until now. Have there been absolutely no developments at all? Does Jennifer's family stay in touch with LE?
May I also ask if Joanna's remains were ever found?

I guess that changes things a little. I hadn't heard that. But still I think Jenn's case is different. The police aren't questioning the people that they would question if it was a typical abduction, and they aren't putting the investigation on display the way they would in a typical case. They're being very quiet about it- too quiet. It almost feels like they hope people will forget about her and stop asking questions. You know what I mean? Almost like they know what happened but it's a big secret. It's just weird. I can't explain it any better than that.

There have been no developments in Jennifers case. Joanna's body was found in a suitcase in a landfill earlier this year. The guy that killed her, Rosendo Rodriguez, confessed I think.
Jennifer had two roomates and a boyfriend, all of whom should have been questioned again, and more thoroughly. I don't think they were involved, but they must know something.

Thank you.
Why do you think LE have not questioned them further? They all have alibis?

I put the pics of Jen side by side with this sketch and I think it looks an awful lot like her. The only problem is, it's hard to compare the mouth in the two pics because Jen is always smiling, except in the one where her head is turned:

I think so too. Did you compare the two photo's? I think the chin, cheekbones and nose are identical. Even the hair looks alot like it does in the bottom left photo on Jen's page- the one where she's wearing the cap. Also the timing is perfect- Jen disappeared 7/14/04, the body had been there "just under four years."
Jen's door had to have been locked with a key, and hers were in the house, so she had to have been taken against her will. The time of day indicates that there wasn't an obvious struggle, or that they got her out of there pretty quickly without making a scene- which tells me that either she knew her attacker or was drugged, and that there was a vehicle involved. The possibility that she made it all the way to Sacramento alive makes sense- she's a smart girl.
I think everything fits. I think we've found Jennifer. Now we need to figure out who did this to her and make them pay.
I have reported the likeness to the authorities and am waiting to hear back.

OMG! I just found out new information after 4 years! Only it isn't new. I just realized that the description of the clothing is different on the printable poster than it is in the newspaper article! The poster says she "may have been wearing jeans and a dark t-shirt when she disappeared. I never noticed that before. Everything else says she was wearing blue capris and a red halter top. Someone must have seen her after she went home to change for work. I wonder when they changed that?

Hi! I just found an old picture of Jen in my photo album. It was taken in 1995, at our Grandparents fiftieth anniversary party. She was 16 or 17 at the time (I think). I haven't seen the picture in years, and I don't know if her parents have ever seen it, but I'm going to send it to them when I get some time. It was a good time, and as usual, she looked happy. I wish there was some new information. I am keeping my eyes open, and watching the sacramento case, but nothing so far. I'll update as soon as I hear something.

I'm trying to remember back...but didn't LE search property near Shallowater also of a man they suspected had taken Jennifer? From what I remember they seemed fairly certain he was involved in her disappearance but nothing seemed to ever have happened in that regard. Does anyone know if he were ruled out or what happened?

Yes. They searched the property but didn't find any hard evidence of anything. They took a few items that they said would be tested but said they didn't find anything solid. They also said they would update the public if anything came out of it, but they never did. Nobody but LE knows if anything ever came of it, but I suspect not.

This is a copy of the news story that was on KCBD at the time of the search that you are talking about. However, the wilkerson family updated Jennifer's website after this appeared and it sounded far less promising, as far as leads go, so they must have told them something different.
Authorities Collect Possible Evidence In Jennifer Wilkerson Case
The search for Jennifer Wilkerson is now taking Lubbock authorities to west Lubbock County. Cadaver dogs were used to assist Lubbock Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers and the DPS Crime lab in a search that started at 7 a.m. Friday. The search focused on a 160 acre property northwest of Reese Technology Center on Highway 114 and Farm to Market Road 2378.
Investigators spent nine hours on the scene. They did not find a body but they did collect several pieces of possible evidence. Captain Kevin Overstreet with the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department said, "I would say it's a significant lead and hopefully we can develop something as a result of the evidence we've taken from the scene." Authorities marked that possible evidence with flags and markers.
NewsChannel 11 has also learned that a lot of drug activity took place at the house on the property. No one is living there but we have learned the person who was recently evicted is 36-year-old Richard Boozer. He was arrested January 2, 2006 on three counts of possession of a controlled substance. He is not considered a suspect at this time.
Authorities did contact Wilkerson's family and let them know about the search and what they found. Authorities also called the Rogers family to let them know the search was in no way related to the disappearance of Joanna Rogers.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the note from her parents about the search.
3/10/06 NOTE FROM JENNIFER'S PARENTS:
We were contacted by the Lubbock Sheriff's Dept. this morning to inform us of a search taking place near Lubbock. Based on a tip, they searched a home and property. We believe it to be a case of eliminating possibilities. It was not sufficient to justify a warrant when it was given, and if there was reason to believe it a credible tip they probably would have brought in the URSAR team, to utilize their experience and resources. We were told this afternoon that nothing of significance was found, though there are some items being further investigated.
We would like to thank the Sheriff's Department, the Texas Rangers, and the other units involved for their continued dedication to finding our daughter, and for keeping us informed in a timely manner. We also would like to particularly thank Dana, Sheila, and the rest of the United Response team. From Day One of this ordeal, they have been a rock for us. They have provided more than horses, dogs, divers, search volunteers and experience - they have also provided shoulders to cry on, ears to listen to angry rants and crazy theories, calming words when needed and sage advice always. We would be lost without them. Their compassion, professionalism, and generosity have made a difficult time easier.
If any more news is forthcoming, we will let you know.

Here is one I had not seen before- it says they had to evict Boozer in order to search the property (He ended up in jail on unrelated charges.):
Authorities Search For Body In West Lubbock County
Posted: 3/10/06
Lubbock County Sheriff's deputies are searching a property in West Lubbock County for a body, possibly belonging to Jennifer Wilkerson. You'll recall she's the woman that disappeared in June of 2004 from Lubbock. She was 26 at the time.
The property is located about three miles North of Highway 114, on Farm to MarketRroad 2378. The DPS Crime Lab is assisting at the scene along with cadaver dogs.
Captain Kevin Overstreet with the Lubbock Sheriff's Department says they are acting on a tip they received. He says they received the information "a while back," but had to give the tenant of the home a 30 day eviction notice before they could search the property. Authorities received consent to search and began searching the property around 7:30 Friday morning.
NewsChannel 11 is at the scene and will continue to follow the story. Watch NewsChannel 11 at five, six and ten for the latest developments.

Thank you Leslie for all that information! It amazes me how the media and sheriffs office manage to release enough information to make you think there's been a break in cases...then everything just goes silent again. I don't understand why they had to evict to search...I thought a search warrant meant the people could not refuse the search! Definitely hiding something if he wouldn't allow a search.
Prayers always for Jennifer and her family.

I think it was because they didn't have enough to get a search warrant, unless I'm misunderstanding it. It seems kind of wierd though, that they can have enough to evict someone over, but not enough for a warrant? And again, they said he was not a suspect. I just don't understand.
